The Scene
Though it's easy to miss among the many motels and restaurant chains in Collinsville, Porter's provides an evening of swank once you get through the hotel lobby. Give your eyes a couple seconds to adjust to the low lighting and fold yourself into one of the most comfortable chairs you'll ever sit in: a sumptuous pillow of ostrich leather. Next, order a dirty martini--they add extra olives here--and let your worries fade into the smoke around you. Your neighbors might range from the more casual out-of-towners staying at the hotel to St. Louis locals, dressed to the nines, who are tired of the same old scene across the river. Some come to play pool, some to schmooze, others to listen to live music on Saturday nights.
Libations and More
To accommodate the range of patrons, Porter's offers everything from beer and wine to martinis, cognac and single malt scotches. If you can't find something from the regular wine list to quench your thirst, ask for the Captain's Reserve List. The trendy Cosmopolitan and the almost equally trendy Chocolate Martini are two customer favorites. First class cigars (some with price tags to match) come from a walk-in humidor.
