While McLaren Port Huron's current cancer services has evolved into a well-respected oncology program, it will soon be advancing cancer care to provide the very latest in today's treatment of cancer. In May 2015, the McLaren Port Huron Board of Trustees approved construction costs for a new Karmanos Cancer Institute. Groundbreaking for the new cancer center will begin this summer. Comprehensive oncology services will include infusion therapy and a new a state-of-the-art, leading edge linear accelerator that delivers the most effective radiation therapy available. Clinical trials, cutting-edge therapies with potential benefits over standard treatments, are also expected to be offered locally. The facility is slated to open in the spring of 2016.
Expanded services means greater access to cancer care in St. Clair and Sanilac counties. This expansion effort will benefit patients in our community for many generations to come.
