Best

I was born and raised here in Hamtramck. Polish Village is by far the BEST restaurant! From the old times when it was Zusia's, to now. The pork chops, city chicken, and dill pickl...

I work at a polish restuarant in dearborn called jims place and I am constantly hearing about the restuarant in the basement so i decided to give it a try.... it was packed i had ...

Polish food? 10/23/2007

my mother in law is 100% Polish...actually from Poland, and she said that this food is something else, but for sure its not polish! Maybe it looks like it but it definitely doesn't taste like it. She made me some pierogies and stuffed cabbage to prove her point and I have to say that I agree with her....I took her to 3 different Polish restaurants while she was visiting, and Polish Village is the worst....sorry.... more

Very good resturant. good service, good food, reasonably priced, lot to choose from. Tastes home made like mother made. Thank you Cass more

The City Chicken Rocks 9/6/2007

I don't understand the bad reviews. I make way to Polish Village often, I was just there last week and the stuffed peppers were better then my Mom's. I love everything about Pol Village from the tiny basement that looks like my Grandma's did 20 years ago to the Polish speaking waitresses. The city chicken and dill pickle soup are amazing and the peirogi and potato pancakes are wonderful too. I don't care for the globacki (stuffed cabbage) or the Kraut here, but there are other wonderful dishes! Pol Village isn't Krakow, but it's pretty close.\r Pros: Best Pol food in town and cheap too boot Cons: Small place and sometimes you have to wait a while more

Worst Service, Cold Food 8/28/2007

If that's your specialty, this is the place to be. Everything was cold, except the pop. That was warm, apparently their ice machine broke on the day I was in there. Meatballs were cold, service terrible. Waitress looked hung over, and very very rude. Maybe they should try their hand at modeling instead of customer service and serving people.\r more

Never again!!! 8/10/2007

I have never had worse service in my life. I gave this place three chances and each time a different waitress was more rude and less intelligent than I could imagine. The food took forever, and not because it was coming out of the kitchen, it just sat on the counter until they decided we should eat. Then after asking for water it was another 10 min... Not to mention they drop the check on the table right after you order your meal, forgetting they have a dessert menu... Lastly, the food was horrible.\r Pros: nothing Cons: food and service!!! more

Good Polish food, outstanding value and service 7/22/2007

I moved to Hamtramck from Farmington Hills in 1973 and regularly sample all of the Polish restaurants in town. They are all great places to visit and dine. Each restaurant has developed some loyal patrons who swear their place is the best. Polish Village is the Hamtramck equivalent of ""Cheers"" with its cozy down under the street dining room and wall length bar. One sign of a great place to eat is how busy they are and you will probably wait for a table here so be prepared. Just remember it will be worth the wait and if you like Polish beer be sure to try the Okocim on tap. The other thing to note is that although all of these restaurants feature a basic Polish menu each one also has several Polish specialties. I prefer the way the potato pancakes are made at the Village and their fresh apple nalesniki (apple crepes) are really special for desert. Pros: Lots of parking - free on Saturday after 4p and all day Sunday Cons: None except for the wait sometimes. more

Award winning soups! 7/2/2007

The soups are one of my favorite things about this fine, European gem. The chicken is made true to the old fashion Polish Recipe, very thin but with heavy chicken flavor, strained of the actually chicken. And the noodles are unexplainable. I go there and leave with a quart of each :) Pros: Soup and Warsaw Chicken, Pork chops. Cons: Have to pay to park I think more

Nastiest restaurant I have EVER encountered 7/1/2007

The soup...save your money--you might as well take a chicken boullion cube and stick it in water and call it soup (that is pretty much what it is). I tried a couple of the soups and they were nasty. The dill pickle soup was especially sick. The waitresses were terrible, rude, and dirty. The prices were nothing special and personally, the portions were smaller than at Under the Eagle. The pierogi--ha! You might as well go to Sam's Club's frozen foods section if you think these are tasty. There was hardly any filling, they were burnt, and not tasty AT ALL. If you want real Polish food go to Under the Eagle or even Polonia if you have to. STAY AWAY from this place. You will need Raphacholin C or PeptoBismal after eating this garbage. Pros: Parking? Cons: EVERYTHING WAS TERRIBLE---sick! Stay Away! more

Carolyne!! Owner of Polish Village Cafe!!! 5/25/2007

You said your friend about your reviews. I know your friend and I know you. What you wrote about POLONIA- it's not true! You know- I'm right! Waitresess are nice there and friendly. There is really good food. You are the business owner and you wrote 30 reviews on this one page? Why? I know- you need new customers, everybody need new customers. Every business. I got jewerly store. I understand you, but it's not fair. I know a lot about your restaurant and a lot of Polonia, I know also a lot about Under the Eagle. I live in Hamtramck. Ooo!! One more think- you have lower prices. No Polonia. I hope you understand me. And be fair! Have a nice Memorial Day!\r Patricia more

Patricia, your wrong in many ways 5/25/2007

Carolyn does not OWN Polish Village. She works there as a manager. Number 2: Polonia Lowered all their prices, go look. They are all lower then Polish Village. And they have a flyer that states ""We now have the lowest prices in town"". Number 3: In my opinion, Polish Village has the best tasting and freshest Polish Food in town.\r \r And Monica, let me clear this up. If there was a dog under one table, and a pork chop under the other, wouldn't that dog eat the pork chop???? That makes no sense. Also, if there did happen to be a dog in the restaurant, I'm sure it was a seeing eye dog, or one to help disability people. The law states that disability and helper dogs must be allowed in all business. Blind people have to eat too, geesh... more

it's not authentic polish food!!! 5/23/2007

It's disgusting. A lot of food, but cheap food... $ 4.65 per dinner. It's somethink wrong with the food. you can't buy good ingredients for this price.... Think about this... more

hey jimski60- polish village is dirty!!! 5/23/2007

I'll tell you somethink jimski60- you are rude!!! I'm at Polonia every saturday. Waitresses are always very nice and perfect in every detail. But in PVC- dirty restaurant waitresses are unpleasant. Their food is from cans. Mashed potatoes are instant. Vegetables and gravys are from cans. Meatballs and Stuffed Cabbages and more foods are from Sysco company. My friend work for Sysco and I know it. 95% food at Polish Village is from cans. The quality their food is terrible. This is stiking restaurant!!!\r But Polonia don't have a garage!!! You are so funny and stupid. At Polonia is first quality food. There is the best fresh sauasage. I'm from Poland. And I know which food is authentic polish. I know it Ca...yne!! Somebody told me about your reviews.... more

Clean, fresh, hot and warming! 5/16/2007

I've been here 50 times over the past years and can only say good things about Polish Village. The food is good, and authentic and fresh. Polonia (next door) is no comparision. Polonia makes the kielbasa in the garage which is next to an alley where ro-dents live, which leaves much to wonder about the quality and safety. Polish Village uses fresh, Kowalski Quality kielbasa. Although the waitresses may look good at Polonia, they are all very rude. I'm not sure how a dog could be in the Polish Village, I've waited over 45 minutes for a seat, and once in, all I see are smiling faces, and good food. Pros: Fresh, hot, clean Cons: Wait for a seat more

dirty!!! Sarawithlove you right!!! 5/11/2007

Was dirty!!! Under table was food. Uder next tabe was dog!!! The owner must be stupid, becAuse a lot of people don't like pets!!! I love pets! but i don't like in the restaurantS. The best polish food is at Polonia Polish Restaurant. There is nice and clean!!! Cons: Food, Service... more

dirty! dirty! dirty! 4/13/2007

Dirty tables, dirty silverware, even our waitress had dirty hands! After waiting for an hour (outside in the cold), we finally got to sit down...first thing I see is some food leftovers on the table and even more of them under the table...but the worst was yet to come....our waitress had dirty hands! I understand that they are busy but they need to consider washing their hands before serving food! I can't tell you anything about their food...simply because I've lost my appetite...will NEVER go back there again! more

If you are cranky, rude, and perputually in a hurry stay away - this place is for us! 4/4/2007

My husband and I have gone here for over 10 years. The place has such a very friendly atmosphere. We bring out of town guests here with us every chance we get - to give them the best impression of Metro Detroit. We often stop in here before going to an event in downtown Detroit and have learned how to time the crowds or how to enjoy the drinks at the bar or conversations with others while waiting! Each time we choose another eating spot closer to home we pay much more and are much less satisfied with the food and staff. You can't beat the prices especially considering the taste of the food! We always enjoy the shot of chilled vodka proceding our polish beer with our dinners. My husband swears that four drinks into the beer we get our beet soup. That's how long it takes the staff to go grab the soup after setting down the drinks. The staff really goes to work here and they keep a friendly disposition all the while. \r \r My husband's Grandma was straight off the boat from Poland and an excellent cook. He always comments that the smells and the taste of the food remind him of her. This place feels as welcoming as your best memories visiting your Grandma or best friends house for dinner as a kid. This place always leaves me with a smile on my face. It helps me unwind from the hectic week. Pros: Friendly factor, atmosphere, taste, polish food selection, polish beer, $ Cons: We call to get a recommendation on the best times to avoid the crowds. more

Good as Gramma's homemade....... 4/1/2007

The food was prepared in a tradtional Polish style of cooking......very tasty. My Gramma cooked all of the dishes served on the menu. In comparison, we were very pleased. I highly recommend the Polish Village Cafe to anyone who wants delicious, traditional home cooked Polish food. The atmosphere takes you back to the old world style of dining and they have a great menu of Beers to choose from. more

Fresh Food! Great Prices! Top Notch! 3/31/2007

Alice Brown does not know what she is talking about. My family and I have been going here for years, and it is by far the best Polish food in Hamtramck, and maybe Michigan. Made fresh to order with produce purchased every morning. A+ in my book. more

I was there....and was terrible 3/22/2007

Food wasn't fresh. there was Refuge for homeless and poor. And it is now too, because it's cheappest restaurant in Michigan. And your dinner in home is more expensive. This restaurant is fo cheap people\r You have better restaurants- ""Polonia"" and ""Under the Eagle"" and also ""Krakus"".\r Their food is great. Pros: Nothing Cons: Cold, food wasn't fresh, small, smoking, terrible owner more

The best dinner in Hamtramck! 8/11/2006

Great! If you only have time for one dinner in Hamtramck - it should be here. The only problem: be prepared to wait for a table. Pros: food Cons: could be a long wait more
