Playtpus where is your customer service? 6/14/2013

I dealt with the store over the phone to buy a dresser to match one bought at another platypus store. I paid immediately for a piece (and the delivery) that would be (they say) delivered in 3 weeks time (coming straight from indonesia). after checking myself numerous times, it happens that the piece was in their warehouse-storage-delivery facility : Metropolitan. I made sure they have my 2 dressers and schedule the delivery (1pm to 4pm) so i took a day off from work. Only one piece was delivered. they said they made a mistake and forgot (!) my second piece. I scheduled another delivery (this time as a favor to "accommodate" me they say they could deliver at 8am. The second piece arrived (unwrapped), and damaged on both side panels loose and unfinished. I refused it. The princeton store manager could not say anything else than "what would like us to do" which in my case was to get what i paid for. Finally we settled on getting the piece delivered again and i would try to fix it myself (with my $200 discount..). Metropolitan delivery showed up a third time and this time after checking the piece in the bedroom (and worry like hell that the guys will damage my floor or broke something) i realized that the piece wasnt mine as it was perfect on the side panels but damaged on the front. TOTALLY A WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY. what they sell is crap, even if the price tag is expensive, their furniture doesn't hold well, the glue cracks and the varnish is not done well.. trying to get a closure (would i get my money back?) i called the store and dave said he would not give me their office number and ceo's name because it was not an information he could disclose. REALLY?? i worked for many high end corporate office and i don't know ONE CEOs who would not want to hear from his customers. Remember customers are your paycheck!! Maybe i am not the first customer that is furious and demands a higher quality of product and service. more

Country kitsch with a funky twist 7/23/2006

Platypus is a small boutique store that sells home furnishings. Their sale prices are reasonable, but not low. Regular priced items are a bit expensive. I like traditional furnishings, but not like those found at Platypus. The calico and gingham- upholstered sofas sold here wouldn't fit into most homes. One thing of note about this store is that it smells funky inside. Kind of like coffee with incense. They try very hard to be trendy. I noticed that the clerk was meditating. Either way, this is a store for special items other people don't have. The merchandise either appeals to you, or turns you off. Parking around here (Manayunk's Main Street) is a hassle and it is a hassle to pick up your purchases in my opinion. There are two floors to this shop, and I wouldn't want to be the one carrying things down from the top floor down the steep staircase. more

nice home store 10/20/2005

Platypus is a nice home store located in a nice spot in Philly. They carry a wide array of merchandise for your home, including accents and furniture. Instead of being on the very modern edge, this store is more traditional. Their furniture is traditionally-styled and is beautiful made. They are also big on gardens and offer a nice array of items for your garden. I really like this store, and I think most people would appreciate what they offer. more
