Their service has greatly improved. We went to them for years and were disappointed the last time or two at their poor service. However, they really have turned around the last few months and they caught a needed brake fix while doing another repair. Another brake and transmission place said they didn't need replacing even after I complained about them getting progressively squeaky (we're talking loud). Tim said they were so worn that the calipers also needed replacing. My car is finally quiet for the first time in several months. I feel like we can depend on them again. more

Tim and the pit stop crew always takes care of us. He tells it like it is and will show and explain to us in plain language what is wrong with our vehicle. I like that he gives us a ride home when we need it. more

Fast, Friendly and Affordable 4/20/2012

Been going to Pit Stop for years. They have always been friendly, fair and honest. I read the other reviews on here and they make no sense at all to me because I've never experienced any of those things. I do know this, there was a guy who was recently working there, he left under not so great circumstances which were in his control, so he is a ex employee with a axe to grind, so to speak. He uses several different names on here and it is very upsetting to see him try to destroy the good name of this business. more

Worst Shop Ever! 3/26/2012

Most of the services they provide here are a SCAM plain and simple. Especially the power steering and brake flushes they offer. I worked there and believe me, it's all about getting Tim's bottom line up with these worthless services. Tim always seems friendly and knowledgable, but this is just an act. Once you become a regular he will run you through the wringer. Alan the ""jailbird"" manager knows next to nothing about cars or how to maintain them. The way Tim runs his business is by the seat of his pants and usually ends up in total chaos. While working for him I was promised commisions on services performed provided I wrote down what I did. When it came time to collect Tim would always play the ""I'm too busy for anything"" act. Which I let slide for a few weeks because I figured I owed him $100 for a service I performed on my own vehicle but figured he would come talk to me and settle up when he was less busy. His idea of settling up was to take $116 (more than what I owed him) out of my paycheck without even consulting me allowing him to continue to evade paying me my commision money. Bottom line is this a very ""white-trash"" type of business. Most of the employees he keeps are inexperienced bums who only work there because they have too many felony convictions to work anywhere else. If you like getting scammed by morons and their fancy machines pay this dump a visit. more

waste your money & time 3/21/2012

i have to agree with the all of the negative reviews. be careful before decide to go with them unless you dont care when the repair will be done. and you have problems on how to spend your money. these guys are real cheaters Pros: null Cons: null more

Cary's Best Auto Shop 2/18/2012

Been going to Pit Stop since Tim took ownership over 10 years ago. You'll get the best price in town and great service. Tim even came to my house one time to remove a broken belt from my car in the driveway and then drove it to his shop to fix it that day! He'll never sell you something that you don't need and I trust him like a brother. Pros: null Cons: null more

Bunch of scammers! 1/16/2012

I went there and felt like I was being totally scammed. The guy there did not know much about cars I could tell and he kept pushing this $110 service on me after I clearly stated I just want the oil change. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE ESPECIALLY THE MANAGER ALAN, HE'S A CROOK! more

Great Service Great Prices Great Employees 12/17/2011

Great place to take your car for services. Staff is friendly. Being a female and having to take your car to the shop can be hard sometimes, I don't know alot about cars and can be taken advantage of ,but at a Pit stop , I feel comfortable with what they tell me I may need for my car. No games or gimics. I travel from North Raleigh to get my car serviced by these guys. I have recommended family and friends who have also been just as a satisified. Pros: null Cons: null more

I trust them . 7/26/2011

no longer trust them 5/14/2011

have been going to pit stop for a good while, but the service and wait time is getting absurd. the last time I had my car in for service, one of the techs lied to me, saying my car was being worked on, and would be ready soon. I went to pick-up my car later, it had not even been looked at!!!. I noticed while standing around waiting, this same story was being told to people when they called about cars.they have more bussiness than they can handle, and the professionalism and quality of service is dropping. more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! 8/6/2010

Unless you have an endless amount of time, & really like hanging out in a waiting rooms looking at year-old magazines & eating stale nabs, take your car elsewhere. Tim is good at building trust the 1st couple of times, but it's all downhill from there. Maybe he's OK for oil changes but if you need a real repair done, all he will do is waste your time and money. You will have to take your car back 2,3, & 4 times to get him to finish a job, & whenever he says it'll be ready in 2 hours, add 2 days, or maybe 2 weeks. more

Best place to take your car for service. Period. 9/3/2009

You can't put a dollar figure on the trust that I have for Tim and his employees. I have been a long time customer with both routine and complex issues and he has always delivered with sound advice and quality work. If he tells you something needs to be fixed or replaced he's not trying to make another dollar, it needs to be fixed or replaced. I have sent him friends and family members and all have been completely satisfied. He works on all make and model cars I believe, as I have two foreign cars and he's changed the oil, and put on new brakes amongst other things. We all know how crucial it is to have a trustworthy mechanic and the Pit Stop exemplifies that. Pros: Service, Price, Efficient, Trustworthy, Dependable more

Always had good service from personable people 2/10/2009

I've been using them for oil changes and small repairs for two years and been very pleased. I stand and watch everything and haven't been dissatisfied. I like the fact that I can get oil and a filter and not have to pay for all the unwanted extras that other places foist off on you. They do exactly what I ask and don't try to snow me with ""needing"" unwanted items, like many shops do to us women. They have busy times of day, so it pays to find out when these are and go at off-peak times. They are quick with oil changes and answer questions. I haven't had any large repairs. But consider that everybody is going to have some errors, and usually only angry people write reviews, not the thousands of satisfied customers. I highly recommend them.\r Kathy Pros: quick service, no unwanted extras, they don't treat women like idiots Cons: small lot, but I don't care to pay for landscaping and waiting room frills more

Excellent local shop! More than just an oil change/inspection. 1/1/2009

Been using PitStop & Tim the owner for years now. Always professional, and accommodating.\r \r Unlike some other shops, he tries to actually only do what is required to fix the car. I have a mechanical background, and have worked at dealerships, and know they often sell you everything that could possibly cause the problem to insure they fix the first time. This is ok, if you are made of money, but Tim tries to do right by me every time. Have I taken my car back for the same ""engine light""? Sure, on the first trip, he cleaned the problem area, hoping to fix the issue inexpensively. On the second trip he replaced a part, and didn't even charge me labor.\r \r I like knowing the man in charge, rather than a order writer at a dealership. He is accountable, and good.\r \r Most quick oil change shops are very limited. But PitStop can do more than most, and his business is busy because of it. If you complain because a manufacture doesn't stock parts and he has to wait, or because a 10.5 hour labor job may keep your car several days, you simply don't understand the auto repair business. \r \r Do mechanics make mistakes, drop bolts, etc, sure.....we are all human. Incompetent? Hardly. Pros: Locally owned, Good work. Cons: Very busy (Because they do good work) more

Try somewhere else - they're too busy for you & it's not worth the wait. 10/3/2008

When we first took my husband's car in for repair, we were very impressed with the service & honesty we encountered. They couldn't do the repair & referred us to a place in Raleigh that did a great job. So when my car started having trouble, we took it to him. I have a foreign car, so he said it'd be at least a week to get it fixed due to needing a part. Pros: patience builder? Cons: Everything! Never calls or updates you, takes a LONG time, etc. more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 9/9/2008

we always took our cars to Tim @ pit stop. however, lately, it has been taking so long (2 days) to fix something that is run of the mill. i had my engine transmission flushed and it took a whole day (we dropped it off afternoon before closing and picked it up 2 days after). it is ridiculous. the latest one was my engine water pump broke and had to be replaced. his assistant dropped a bolt in my engine and nobody called us to tell us that the car will not be ready. when we did call, we were told it was because the part they got was defective. when confronted why it's taking so long, that is when Tim admitted that his assistant dropped a bolt and cannot locate it. he said he could drop the pan and get it but it takes a lot of work. WHAT???? A LOT OF WORK? IT WAS YOUR FAULT YOU GOT THAT BOLT IN THE ENGINE, WHY DO OI HAVE TO LOSE TIME OFF WORK AND SUFFER???? DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO FIX YOUR MISTAKE! trouble is, Tim got so big that he is jumping from one car to the next and answering phones. the assistants he hires do not look like they know more than changing the oil! NO, THIS IS THE LAST TIME. NO MORE WAITING. he did not even have the decency to apologize! like it was our fault. it was all i could do not to scream bec he is holding our car hostage, i cannot do anything but wait. so BEWARE. you will wait a loooong time. maybe not the first two times since he is still courting your business, but repeat customers like us get treated this way??? i would have given no star if possible. this is just not the way to treat loyal customers. Pros: YOU CAN WAIT A LONG TIME AND TWIDDLE YOUR THUMBS Cons: EVERYTHING more
