My family just lost a beloved 2 1/2 year old dachshund to genetic disease. It was a disease that a responsible breeder would have made sure to breed out of the bloodline. I am so thankful for the time that we got to spend with her, but the disease was instantly debilitating and we could do nothing about it. It was the biggest heartbreak I have ever gone through and I would not wish this pain upon anyone else. Petland needs to take responsibility for the poor conditions in which they breed dogs and buy puppies from. My dachshund should never have had to have a central nervous system breakdown within 4 hours in front of myself and my three younger brothers. She went from happy and playful to sick and not eating or drinking in four days, and within hours on the last day, she lost her ability to walk, her ability to react, and her ability to even hold up her own head or close her eyelids. I held her while she took her last breath and it was the most painful experience that I have ever had to go through. She was a baby and shouldn?t have had to die. We were supposed to have many more wonderful years with her. Petland is a hole in the wall operation that needs to be stopped.
In addition, my poor dog had many conditions over her lifetime that should have been signs that we should have looked into the PetLand lawsuit. She ?broke? her front paw and was in a cast for 1/4 of her life, due to VCA. We eventually looked for a second opinion because she was exhibiting signs of depression, and two other vets said that after analysis of both legs, that her joints were malformed and they were not sure why. Because of these puppy mills, my dog had to spend undue time in a cast that should have never been put on her. We don?t care about the cost because we wanted her better, but 2500 dollars was quite an expenditure for a middle class family with four children, one in college. She then had multiple bladder infections throughout her lifetime and was urinating blood. She was on many antibiotics and we always made sure that she was well fed and watered, so the bladder infections were a mystery to us.
I miss my dachshund so much and would give anything to have her back with me. Because that isn?t going to happen, I want to make sure that everyone reads about how horrible PetLand is. We should have never have had to lose our best friend.
