Best

This is the one and only place I will go for a steak. I save up for a little then splurge on the porter house and a few glasses of Cabernet. Yes that is a good comination :)

Worst

Maybe it was the build up from everybody telling me if you like steak you have to go to Peter Luger's. Well it wasn't worth it. The steak was good but I've had much better. I'v...

Sink Your Teeth In This! 8/8/2002

The very best of the best, Porterhouse for two is worth it's weight in gold! Love the waiters, Luger potatos, and cream spinach. The only place that has fresh and tasty tomatos in the winter! Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Great Desserts Cons: Only Two Locations more

BEEF!!!! 8/7/2002

While Peter Luger doesn't have the most inviting decor or atmosphere, what do you expect from a Steakhouse from the late 1800's?! Nothing comes close to what Luger's does, and oh, how they do it so well. Don't bother looking at a menu- Shrimp cocktail, steak for 1,2,3, or more, creamed spinach and hash browns, and save room for the pecan pie and cheese cake, and don't forget the SCHLAG!!!!! Pros: The ORIGINAL!, Steaksauce, BACON! Cons: Cash only, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, Shady more

Pure Heaven 8/6/2002

All I can say is MMMMMM! From steak to schlag (whipped cream) this is the best steak house in the universe. Pros: In Brooklyn, Delicious Cons: Pretty Expensive, No Atmosphere more

Go for the Porter 7/29/2002

The huge porter house for two was one of the best steaks I ever had. Highly recommend it. more

You can't beat Brooklyn's Peter Luger's 7/29/2002

If you are in Bronx, Queens, Staten Island or Manhattan it's worth the trip. This is the best in the world. Down right comfortable, pleasant, enormous portions, have lunch and bring home a doggie bag wth your dinner. It's friendly, it is a wonderful place. more

Best Steak 7/26/2002

You'll never want to eat steak anywhere else unless you have the Peter Luger's Sauce in your bag. more

now that's steak 7/23/2002

large portions full of flavor. must come with an appetite. try their garlic mashed potatoes! more

Sucky! 7/18/2002

If you like your steak well-done, don't waste your time or money coming here. They don't know how to cook a steak well-done, they just sear it to a black charcoal crisp on the outside and its still not fully cooked inside. more

best of the best 7/18/2002

I went there last week with four friends. We ordered the steak for four and some side dishes (the cream spinach was a bit salty, but the German fries was really good). For appetizers try the shrimp cocktail, it was really good. I was prepared for bad service from all the previous reviews I read, but our waiter was really nice. The steak was unbelievable, I will definitely come back again. Cons: long wait more

10 7/18/2002

BEST STEAK IN NEW YORK. THIS IS A REAL STEAKHOUSE WITH PEOPLE THAT KNOW THE MEAT BUSINESS NOT A STEAKHOUSE RUN BY PEOPLE WHO SIT AT DESKS. THEY HAND PICK THEIR MEAT,DRY-AGE FOR 28 DAYS WHAT COULD BE BETTER. THE OTHER SO CALLED STEAKHOUSES GET THEIR MEAT SIGHT UNSEEN WET AGED IN A BAG, AND CUT FOR THEM. more

HIGHLY OVERRATED!!! 7/15/2002

Unfortunately, I spent my birthday at Peter Luger's. We'd never been and I expected the steak of my dreams. I at least thought we would see a menu, but instead were asked how we wanted the steak (by the way we were never told that the steak was per table and not person and we also weren't told what kind of steak). We ordered it medium which in their opinion means dripping blood (practically seared) and a side of hash browns and spinach. The steak prepared that way made my companion ill. The hash browns were burned and the spinich had no flavor. The steak was okay at best. Next time I'm going to Smith & Wollensky's for a REAL steak!!! Pros: still a steak Cons: overpriced, overrated, reservations needed more

PETER LUGERS IS THE BEST. NO CONTEST! 7/9/2002

The best. HAnds Down! The steak, which is a Porterhouse cut, is buttery soft and delicious. The tomato and onion salad appetizer is great. Creamed Spinach is great. There CAnadian Bacon strips for an appetizer are a bacon lover's dream..........I love this place. I live in Manhattan, and was at Luger's today, TUESDAY, JULY 9. No reservations. 2 of us. My wife and I! Got there at 7:10 pm. Sat down at 7:30. CAll before hand to see if you can just go, if you are only2 or 3 people. Usually the wait is 20 minutes WITH RESERVATIONS. But its the BEST Pros: THE BEST STEAK, THE BEST VIBE Cons: HARD TO REACH, HARD TO GET RESERVATI more

No Mis-Steak 7/9/2002

Just went here for the first time (at last) and had the $20.02 lunch special. It was amazing. The ""small"" (ha!) sirloin was spectacular -- tender, succulent and savory -- and even the salad and dessert (items where you might be willing to cut a steakhouse some slack) were superb. The atmosphere was pleasant and unfussy, and the service excellent. All in all, a perfect restaurant experience. more

Peter knows his steak 7/5/2002

Peter Luger's is one of a handful of restaurants to have extended the restaurant week offer (otherwise known as a prix fixe menu) until Sept, 2002. For $20.02 one can have salad, great steak, and cheesecake or chocolate mousse, plus friendly service. Deal applies to lunch M-F only but is well worth the treck to Brooklyn for the relaxed atmosphere and the chance to eat at a famous steak house for $20. Not very romantic but my entire family really enjoyed Peter Luger's. Pros: service, food, chocolate mousse more

good, but overrated 6/24/2002

The steak and sides at Luger's are definitely tasty, but the ""legendary"" status it seems to hold lead me to be disappointed after the actual meal. With all the hype I've heard about Luger's, I expected it to be the best steak I've ever had, bar none. It definitely wasn't. It was actually on the lower end of the scale of ""top"" steakhouses that I've been to. It was still a decent meal, just don't expect to have a mind blowing experience at the table and you'll be OK. Whether that makes it worth a 3 week wait for reservations, well thats for you to decide. Didn't mind the beer hall decor, but what's the deal with those flourecent lights?? It felt like Monday morning at the office in there! more

Absolutely Fabulous Food 6/16/2002

The food at Peter Luger's was absolutely fabulous. From the steak to the spinach to the chocolate mousse cake, everything was so good!!! I went with my husband for our 4th year anniversary. We really enjoyed our evening there. Of course, if you are looking for a romantic setting, you should look else where. This place is worst than most diners. more

please don't go!!!!! 6/12/2002

i dont understand why this is the best steakhouse in NY. i went there last week with my boyfriend, n we were totally disappointed. if u wanna check this is best steak or not, i'm telling u!!!!! u don't have to cross the bridge (if u live in Manhattan), n pay $100 for that. i don't think it's worth it. more

Steak Lover's Paradise!!! 5/21/2002

Although sometimes inconsistent I still have to proclaim PL as the best steak house in NY... At their worst they still probably come in the top 3 and at their best no one comes even close. Only restaurant that i never want to see the menu in... ""steak for #, bacon all around, tomatos n onions, creamed spinach, and keep the brooklyn lagers flowing."" your waiter will take care of you from there on... enjoy!!! more
