If you're a pet lover, this Petco is probably the second grocery
store on the list. They carry a lot of the more nutritional foods for
pets, which I like. However, they also carry a lot of flea and tick
control products that I would not use on my cats. Cats have gotten
more attention since the store remodeled earlier this year, but
the layout still seems a little dog-heavy, particularly considering
the number of cat owners in and around Alameda. Do go on a
Saturday if you're looking for a cat to love, however, since ICRA
(a cat rescue organization) has cats and kittens on show for
adoption most Saturdays within the store. The hamsters and fish
seem like they are well cared for, but their bird section has looked
rather neglected at times -- if I were a bird person, I'd be hesitant
to buy one here. Staff is generally helpful, but management
does not seem to emphasize product knowledge too well.
