Penrose ?St Francis Hospital 2222 N Nevada Ave. Colorado Springs Co Emergency Mental Health Ward Shift 3:30 Pm to 2:00 Am Admittance Date: 10/5/2010 10/17/2010 I voluntarily signed in to the Hospital on 10/5/2010, at 3:30 pm, for depression and suicidal thoughts. I was taken back to mental ward where I was told to completely undress in a room with nurses and guard and the door was open and people were walking by. They also took my glasses. I had no privacy at this time. The bed was dirty and the sheets were not changed, it looks like some one had sex on it. I had to sit on the covers with nothing but a hospital gown for 10 and ? hours. I saw the Doctor around 4 pm when he said I was going to get medication to calm my self down; I didn?t get any medication until 10:30pm. I also received my medication for diabetes not until 10:30 after asking several times. They were totally under staffed. I only saw Ha nurse, 2 to 3 times. I spent hours in small room with no care. I was up and down off the bed. And pacing back and forth. I was under a lot of stress. I ask the first guard if I could shut the door some, I didn?t like the people walking by looking in on me. He said I could close it to crack. The first guard was very nice. I saw the doctor around 9pm when he realized I didn?t get any medication. It was around 10:30 pm when my first guard left. The second guard took his place; he didn?t treat me with respect and dignity. He threatened me and abused me. I was also harassed by the third guard and their superiors. I went to close the door a little to stop the people looking in, when the second guard yelled at me ?Where in hell are you going? ?. I informed him I was just closing the door a little. He yelled at me again that I was not to touch the door or go out of my room across a line. I was taken back by this intimidation. I told him he was out of line. He got up and shamed the door in my face. I could not open the door. I was in confinement until he left. The third guard took over I tried to open the door and it was still lock but guard opened the door. I asked him to give me the name of the previous guard. He told me to sit down and shut up. I handed him a piece of paper to write the name. He again told me to sit down and shut up, that he wanted smooth night and didn?t want any trouble from me. I could not see their name tags because I didn?t have my glasses. The guard refused to give me the previous guard?s name. I nurse came in to give me blankets, I ask the nurse if I was causing problems she no that she hadn?t been in since her shift started. As she walked out she talked to the superior guard and he told her to not pay any attention to me because I was nothing but trouble. I little later the guards got out the restraints and displayed them in front of my window. This caused me mental anguish. I couldn?t believe what I had gotten myself into. The guards willfully inflicted mental injury, unreasonable confinement, intimidation and punishment. This causes me pain and mental anguish. I believe the staff is neglectful and indifferent which cause me physical and mental anguish I have since contacted the Hospital Patient Representative and told her what happened. After several days of not hearing back, I called again, I was informed that I was lying about the nurse visit and the door being locked. I was very upset by this and hung up the phone. I called back and ask for the names of the guards and she refused to give them out. I see the hospital trying to cover up the problems not solve them. The head of security has not called me after I was told he would, even though it?s been two weeks. John MacDonald 448 W Rockrimmon Blvd Unit C Colorado Springs CO 80919 719-466-3375 more

The only serious complaint was that they were slow to provide adequate pain relief for my compound fracture 6/30/2007

Except for being slow to provide adequate pain relief for my compound fracture, I found the services adequate. Pros: Good staff and service Cons: A bit slow to provide pain relief upon being admitted more
