Best

This is a great place, a real treat for Raleigh.

Worst

For years I've heard nothing but good things about this restaurant, so I finally drove about an hour to try it. While waiting at the bar, I ordered the Pineapple Upside Down Marti...

Overpriced 8/31/2007

There are alot more places in Raleigh to spend $80.00 for 2 people. Mediocre at best, their steak is good not great, their service is not good at best, the building reminds me of an 1980's apartment and smells like the carpet has been wet before. The guy that comes around to show the "fine" cuts of meat is straight out of a college fraternity, trust me if you want a consistently good steak go "Austrailian" instead. This place will be out of business within a few years. Pros: Steak was okay Cons: Fast food type service with gourmet budget more

Soooo wonderful- busy on the weekends 3/20/2007

I have been to The Peddler several times over the years and have had nothing short of a magical experiance every time I go. The service is always good but the food out of this world. The salad bar is awesome and the steak phenominal. I just love the old school feel of the place, nothing too trendy, just how you imagine a steakhouse should be. It seems like the same people have owned it forever and I always see them there. I like that family owned aspect in a restaurant. This place is a can't miss for anyone in the Raleigh area- it seems like a local landmark. It can get busy on the weekends but still worth the wait! Pros: Food, atmosphere, slow on weeknights. Cons: busy on weekends more

awful service! 3/17/2007

with all the choices in raleigh it is a shame these folks still think they are the only restarant in town! their attitude stinks! the owner was very ugly to another customer... i have eaten here for years BUT I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN! lousy service , average food and an attitude towards other customers that is just crazy! my reservations were " not on their answering machine" but then they mysteriously found the message...on hold to confirm for 15 mins easily... terrible terrible service - the last few times i have visited it has prgressively gone downhill - and there are much much better places to eat in raleigh!!!! Pros: good food Cons: terrible terrible service! more

Plan on waiting sometime around 7ish... 1/29/2007

One of my wife's and I favorite restaurants. We cant afford to go often, be we go when we can. Great steaks and an awesome salad bar. Pros: Great Food Cons: Long waits, occasional bad service more

Excellent Prime Rib and Ambience 8/15/2006

The food was really great but the customer service could have been better. After all, you go out to dinner to be pampered and waited on. First off we tried to make reservations and they would not take them, then instead of the original three diners, there were now five of us. Two were running late and we had to sit in the waiting area for 20 minutes until they arrived. That's just plain silly. If they were smart, they would have seated us and served us appetizers and drinks. Cha-ching...HELLO! No. Rules are rules. We were not offered a beverage while we waited and were not even told that there was a bar area to wait in. Finally we are seated. The service was prompt, the gals ordered drinks and we had at the salad bar. This salad bar was very impressive. Next two men came out and explained their beef selections, which is New York Strip, Rib Eye and Prime Rib (plus there are other items on the menu). Four diners chose the Rib Eye 10 oz cuts and they were cut to order at the table. Personally, I didn't think they were well marbled enough and so I chose the Prime Rib. Then one of the diners had a chip in her wine glass and almost cut her lip on it. It was difficult to get the server's attention and the problem resolved. And then there was no apology or compensation for the problem. The food was served soon after and my Prime Rib was awesome. The other diners said theirs was good. The ambience was very nice, and that of a New York-style steakhouse with low lighting, candles, wood tables and an open grilling area. And yes, there was a bar tucked away on the front side of the building. The Peddler would make a nice romantic dining spot. All in all, I would say that it was a nice time with some irritating moments. I would probably go back in the future but I would not make it tops on my list for customer service. The Social Light Pros: Thumbs Up on Food, Salad Bar and Ambience Cons: Thumbs Down on Customer Service more

Best Steak 7/11/2006

I loved this place. My fiance, now husband, took me there on a date and we go there often now. It is a place I like to take my parents when they visit from NY. It is a nice low key atmosphere. Intimate, a bit dark, but adds to the experience. I like it also because you do not need reservations and can get there as they open (at 5:30 during the week) and get right in with no problems. Food and service are great as is the salad bar. Pros: Service and food Cons: Parking more

Best Steakhouse on Glenwood! 7/3/2006

My new favorite steakhouse! The Peddler comes to your table where you can actually see your steak prior to cooking. Very attentive staff, quiet, romantic atmosphere, and the best tasting steak I've had since moving here 4 years ago....would highly recommend! Went there on a date and they even stored flowers in their cooler so my date could have flowers on the table when I got there. Thanks for making my date such an experience! more

Best Prime Rib in the Triangle... 6/20/2006

Excellent food and service. After great prime rib try the choclate filled cake dessert - it's to die for! Pros: Prime Rib and dessert more

GREAT PRIME RIB 2/19/2006

Everytime friends and family come down to visit we take them to the Peddler's Steakhouse for a Prime Rib! Absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is a little dark, but I think it adds to the relaxing ambiance of the place! more

Love It! 12/18/2005

If you love a good steakhouse - this is the place for you! It is by far the best prime rib we've found in the Raleigh area. The service is attentive without being pesky. The food is delicious! When we celebrate a special occasion, this is the place we choose! Pros: GREAT prime rib!, cozy, GREAT prime rib! more

I was disappointed 8/6/2005

We took my parents for what was supposed to be a memorable experience. The last time we ate here I chose a strip steak carved at our table. When it arrived it didn't appear to be the same piece of meat. This time my father and I ordered the Prime Rib. It was tasty, but, both had more fat than meat. You take your check up and pay at the door? I mentioned that our Prime Rib was fatty and the hostess asked if I told the waitress. She saw what she served us. The presentation is just meat on a plate. Pros: Fast Seating Cons: Not a good value, Fatty Prime Rib, Poor Presentation more

go here 1/18/2005

the food here is the best. great place to take your date or when trying to impress the in-laws or a boss. The steak is great but the salad bar is amazing. Pros: great food, ambiance, great staff more

The Perfect Date Place 7/9/2004

Eating Out has become so ordinary in our lives nowadays that it is difficult to find the perfect little romantic spot for date night. My husband and I just found our "special place" at The Peddler Steakhouse last week. It has been a long time since I have been to a place where I didn't feel like I was being rushed. This restaurant is cozy with candle-lit tables. My husband had the best Prime Rib he had ever eaten and I thought my Grilled Tuna was superb. However, nothing comapred to the salad bar. They have a variety on their salad bar that I haven't experienced since I lived in SanFran. No where here serves things like smoked oysters, artichoke hearts, and mixed peppers to compliment the regular salad items, until now!! Portions huge; very price friendly. Hands down, best eating eating experience since moving to Raleigh 6 years ago!! Pros: Amazing Salad Bar, Grilled to Perfection, Oozing Romance more

Far and away, the best prime rib ever!! 10/7/2003

I got the "10 OZ" regular cut of prime rib which was probably closer to 12 oz - it was very lean, cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, tender and juicy - almost no waste or fat at all, unlike any other prime rib I have ever had. My wife quite enjoyed her 8 oz ribeye. Pros: Salad bar, sweet tea, ambiance Cons: Limited parking, not cheap more

Tasty AND Comfortable 8/21/2002

The Peddler is a quiet, romantic place tucked away off of Glenwood Ave. and you can't beat the steak! They also have a fix it yourself salad bar- a rarity these days, clean and large, fresh selection. Enjoy your steak over a candle lit table in a comfortable and friendly environment. Order a New York Strip or a Ribeye and pick your piece of meat at your table as the meat cutter slices it to your fancy. I highly recommend the filt mignon as well- out of this world! Pros: Friendly Staff, Romantic Environment, Excellent food Cons: Pricey, Parking Limitations, No Reservations more
