This is a toy store that does a good job of keeping up with the latest local trends. It's great for birthday parties, especially if you've run out of wrapping paper - they will wrap while you wait. more

Best palce for bathing suits 5/13/2006

If yiou need a bathing suit, especially off season, this is a great place. The rest of the store is limted as it tries to handle a variety of sports and accessories, but the swim ship is unbeatable. more

Palo Alto Sports and Toy offers high quality toys. They also have a huge swim department offering suits, shoes, a large selection of goggles, swim team supplies, etc. There are also soccer, baseball and other sport supplies. more

Good local toy shop 5/12/2006

It's funny that a kid oriented town like Palo Alto doesn't have more sport shops for younger kids. This has always been our fallback. Staff is pretty friendly and we always end up leaving with something we originally did not intend to buy. more

Sporting Goods with Service 5/12/2006

I have used Palo Alto Sport and Toy World to find sporting goods when I needed personal service. They help fit cleats and shin guards and are knowledgable about their products. While you're there, pick up a birthday present or craft item. more

Best Toy and Sporting Goods Store 5/11/2006

For a smalll store they pack in an amazing selection. I think the secret is that they know their community and they know their products. When I go in looking for something, whether it's balls, or shoes, or mitts, or swim gear they always have exactly what I'm looking for with a selection to choose from. They excel in both toys and sporting goods.\r \r They are a perenniel winner of the Palo Alto Weekly's "Best Of" competition. They're a friendly, family-run, community oriented business. It's always a pleasure to shop there.\r \r The only things they don't really have are large items that take up too much space. I"ll go to Big 5 for those. Avoid the hassle of Toys R Us 5/8/2006

There is nothing like walking to an old fashioned toy store with your child. At Palo Alto Sport Shop, the children are welcome, and there are even touchable displays for them. \r \r Yes, they cannot compete with the bulk of merchandise at a chain store, but they make up for it in selectivity, editing out some of the junk that is available for kids. They add the personal touch to their service as well. And the free wrapping jobs make rushing in just before a birthday party a cinch.\r \r Prices are slightly higher than chain competitors, but it's worth it to avoid the crowds. Plus, if you watch the local papers and Children's Theatre programs, coupons for their store abound. more

Our kids love this place, with a huge selection\r of under $10.00 toys (bins near the front window)\r upstairs swim store is unbeatable.\r board games, costumes,hard to find toys. PROS: friendly staff CONS: parking sometimes hard to find more

We always find what we need! 5/1/2006

My family regularly shops at this store for all of our toy needs as well as many sporting goods. They always seem to have what we need for our sports without having to dig through racks and racks of things. They staff is always helpful. I would recommend this store to anyone. more

Your One Stop Toy Shop 11/2/2005

Palo Alto Sport Shop and Toy World is located in the heart of downtown Palo Alto. Easy to get to with lots of parking nearby. The toy selection is very good with many items that you won't find in the large chain toy stores. My children always find something of interest and the pricing is good. I haven't done much shopping in the sports supply area, but the entire 2nd floor is devoted to swimming. more

  • Our story began in 1930 when my grandfather Ed Hoffacker Sr. opened a sporting goods store in the university town of Palo Alto, California. Palo Alto was the perfect place to start his two sons in business. In 1940 two adjacent stores were acquired and remodeled more than tripling the size of the store. A toy department was soon added.

    We continued to grow and change. In 1980 Palo Alto Sport Shop & Toy World was among the first retailers to computerize operations via the PC. In 1995 we were among the pioneers of internet retail with the launch of our e-tail site. Toyandsport.com has taken our sales around the globe. My grandfather could not have known that some of our best customers would live in 49 other states and countless countries around the world!

    Our team is constantly searching for the latest trends while keeping the basics in stock. Through the years we've pioneered many products like Rollerblade, Xootr, Razor, Aerobie, Life is good clothing... and a few 'trends' that didn't quite make it and we'd rather not mention!

    Providing "Fun for Everyone Since 1930," our staff earns its reputation for personal, friendly service and integrity in our customer relationships. These principles and relationships extend locally and internationally. We care about all our customers because we're family run. You're not just interacting with our business, but three generations of my family as well. We are "family" in more ways than one. Four husband and wife teams run departments and several lifetime relationships started within the walls of our Palo Alto store! Our primary management team has 186 years of business experience, much of it together as a unit.

    Whether on the web, or working in our flagship Palo Alto store we're part of the community. We support more than 40 charities and functions such as Little League Baseball, The Museum of American Heritage and our local May Fete parade. Our relationship with our local schools is decades old and very important to us.
