Great first-time experience 8/2/2011

For my eighteenth birthday my rent's took me out to this beautiful restaurant called Alhambra Palace, located Downtown, Chicago. Highly recommended by me! I had a great first-time experience, excellent food, a chance to talk to some of the dancers. Very nice! more

Overall a very nice experience 7/28/2011

The restaurant decor is amazing. You really fell as if you are in a Moorish palace in Granada, Spain. The food was very good. I recommend the Alhambra rice and sauce which are very good. The sauce has a lttle kick to it, which is unusual for middle eastern cuisine. I was there for dinner on a Tuesday night. The service was very fast. We were in and out within an hour. The menu is limited and a little pricey, but overall a very nice experience. I'd recommend going for a special occasion, such as a birthday, or a date when they have live music. more

Would like some more 7/26/2011

Honestly, I really went into the night at Alhambra with some pretty low expectations. Out with some work colleagues in from out of town who wanted dinner and a "show." Said colleagues are not the most interesting of people so I was all for someone else entertaining us to avoid some awkward conversations and even more cringe-inducing silences. Not to mention all of the really bad reviews on here... but whatever, it's 2 blocks from my condo so I figured if it was really THAT bad, I could just excuse myself to the bathroom and sneak myself home. But I digress... on to dinner. We arrived around 7:10 for a 7pm reservation and requested to sit in the main dining room with the stage. The girl at the hostess stand informed us that they usually don't seat that room until 7:30pm but she would go check. She came back within a minute and told us we could be seated even though we offered to wait at the bar. That was nice of her. Everyone got one of their cocktails from the long list they offer ... and now I can't remember my drink's name! It was black cherry I think? Whatever, it was good. I got a glass of red wine with dinner which was also pretty good. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to split: falafel, lebna, hummus, batata and kibbeh. Onto the meal... I had the Shrimp Kebabs. Seasoned perfectly, the rice was awesome with the pistachios and raisins and all that. I would have liked more of them actually more

Great atmosphere 7/25/2011

Walking into Alhambra is like stepping into another country, like walking into a tale from the Arabian Nights. One's eyes are delighted by the delightful, fanciful and opulent decor. If you can't take a vacation, take a trip to the wonderful world of Alhambra. The food is good Middle Eastern fare, not exceptional, but the atmosphere makes up for that. And the belly dancing spectacle is amazing. more

Quiet good food 7/21/2011

Really enjoyed the music 6/20/2011

I booked a reservation there on Saturday for a friends birthday. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Thx. Wondering about music the dancers danced to. Is there a specific CD or group that was playing? we really enjoyed the music and would like to find it. I am already planning my next trip back to chicago and you are on the list for sure. more

Our server was excellent 6/1/2011

Our server was excellent. Our orders were brought quickly & although we finished our meal before the entertainment started, we didn't feel rushed to leave. The food was very good. We had the Batata appetizer, the Filet Mignon, & the Penne Alfredo. The restaurant itself was gorgeous The flamenco dancers were very entertaining. Overall, it was a great experience & I would recommend it to anyone wanting to do something out of the ordinary. more

OMG what an amazing place 5/5/2011

OMG what a place, the place is amazing never seen anything like it. We had reservations for 8, we were seated within 10 minutes. The show was good, people seem to really enjoy it cause one guy from the audience tried to go on stage and give a dance, which I thought was really awesome cause this place made everyone feel comfortable, relaxed. our meal was great, we ordered the lamb and the surf and turf which was awesome (reasonable priced) service was good, our server was Roy he is fast and really knows his stuff. Only thing I really wish they had frozen drinks and not so much the mixes, ( I really like frozen pina coladas) I hear they have salsa dancing, plannig on coming back for that. I really like this place I'll be back...... more

  • The Scene
Imposing curb appeal includes copper-clad turrets, glowing red letters and decorated doors--perfect for receiving the nightly phalanx of six-figure cars. The first two rooms are modest-marble arches, mosaics, fountains, arabesque detailing-in comparison with the breathtaking stage hall. Two floors accommodate nearly 1,000, every inch outfitted with Moroccan artifacts and crystal-laden chandeliers. Large groups gather around drinks, hunks of roasted meat and aromatic hookahs.

    The Food
A familiar pan-Middle Eastern menu has few deviations despite the previous chef's French roots. Appetizers are traditional; thick, tahini-heavy hummus and zingy dolmeh are both delicious with baskets of warm pita. The one oddball, a grilled scallop plated with marmalade, is succulent and balanced. Kabobs come in chicken, filet, salmon and kefta (ground, seasoned lamb) and two tagines--chicken and lamb shank--both arrive steaming and fragrant with cinnamon. To finish, honeyed baklava stands out.
