Fantastic Staff, Food and Experience! 7/21/2011

I was an event planner for a recent 21 year old's 3 day event including the last night having dinner at P.F. Chang's in Walnut Creek. The guest of honor (Blake) and myself came into the restaurant a few weeks before the event and were greeted by Joseph Pishal, the manager. Joseph offered us so much more than we ever expected from a restaurant chain! He explained how the pre-fixe menu would benefit our large party, presented a food tasting and personalized drink creation for Blake with the bartender that we could serve the night of the event and allowed us to come into the restaurant before the event to set up. He reserved a private area for our party of 25 with no deposit or extra cost to us. This is unheard of at restaurants today and it was such a treat for Blake who was on a budget. We arrived at the restaurant the night of the dinner and Joseph and his staff greeted us with a drink ""on the house"" for Blake right away along with our server, Jamie Pizzagoni, explaining how she would be assisting us that evening. The food was wonderful and so was the special drink that they created for Blake! The staff even gave us a huge slice of cake and sang ""happy birthday"" to him! Yum! As it turned out, our party was not as large as we hoped and Jamie was so understanding. She helped me re-configure the dining area we had reserved and our concern was to create space so that the restaurant would be able to create more tables for their normal dinner service. At the end of the event, Jamie took the extra time to separate the checks for the party, and Joseph gave myself and Blake a special gift bag and personal thank you. I can't say enough about the professionalism and personal care this staff offered us. I have not seen it matched and recommend this venue to any large or small party. I will return with corporate and personal events in the future and offer my sincere thanks to you! Sincerely, C Cline more

Long wait, too trendy 3/18/2009

Food was pleasant and predictable. Knowledge of wait staff on food and condiments is a crapshoot -- some are knowledgeable, many are not. Drinks are overpriced, hard and soft.\r \r Having been there several times, at different times of the day, there is always a wait for a table. The decor is impressive. It is also unfriendly for those who enjoy conversation -- too many hard, reflective surfaces. I was forced to raise my voice to be heard by those sitting next to me, and talking across the table required ,e to nearly shout.\r \r If you want good Chinese food and an atmosphere conducive to conversation, try Yan's on North Main. Pros: Pleasant food Cons: Too noisy, overpriced drinks more

Excellent service!! 8/24/2008

Took the wife shopping at Nordstrom last friday. She wanted to eat at P.F. Changs afterwards. I was reluctant because i have heard from several close friends that the service was awful. The wife persisted and i gave in. Upon entering we were ignored by three hostess that felt their conversation was more important than saying hello. This seemed a bit strange but expected since they looked about the same age as our 17 year old daughter. After a 40 min wait we walked to our table. The tables around us were full but i could not help notice the many empty dirty tables along the way(maybe thats why the wait is so long?). To my surprise we were immediately greeted by the first smiling face upon entering the building. Our server Ian, seemed genuinely happy to see us and made us feel at ease. He told us all his favorite dishes, two of which we decided to order. The drinks and appetizers came right away. We only got two pieces of lettuce with our lettuce wrap and just as my wife was grabbing for the last piece Ian arrived with more. Our waters were never less than half full, and before i even noticed we were out of rice Ian had brought another bowl. Usually at these types of restaurants the service is so scripted and insincere it makes me cringe. This was NOT the case here. Im telling all my friends they need to give this restaurant another chance. Great tasting food and even better service. The front desk could have been more polite, then again maybe they were just having a bad day. Pros: Great servers, good food, good specialty drinks. Cons: Dirty bathrooms, indifferent host staff. more

crappy food, crappy service -- typical PF Chang 2/26/2007

I went to the Walnut Creek PF Chang's with my Mom for lunch one day. I took her there because I wanted to see if this PF Changs is as bad as the one in Nashville, Tennessee.\r \r
\r \r Well, the verdict is in. It's just as bad and in an inexcusible way because we are in the bay area here, people! It's not hard to find good, decent Chinese food and there's no reaon for this PF Chang to be so popular when it produces such mediocre food. \r \r
\r \r My mom order some sort of noodle with shrimp. The texture was off and it was too oily. I ordered some sort of veggie thing which was nothing to write home about. \r \r
\r \r What I found oddly entertaining was the waitress (Caucasian) offering to mix up the special ""sauces"" that were at our table for us. She must've been in her mid-teens, hardly a credible authority on Chinese cuisine, but she was trying to convince me and my mom that this was some traditional Asian thing. \r \r Would not be going back again. Mr. Chang must be laughing all the way to the bank. \r Pros: none. Cons: bad food, bad service, not at all authentic. more

I Would Rather Go To McDonalds 10/15/2005

Even though we had made a reservation for 9:30, we were not seated until 10:15. The restaurant was very loud and made it very difficult to have a conversation. The food came fairly quickly, but we did have to wait 20 minutes for water. Out of 5 dishes, 3 were salty to the point of being inedible. The rest of the food was marginal. It is mystifying to me that such a terrible restaurant would get such wonderful reviews and would be as packed as it was when I ate there. Cons: bad food, loud, inattentive staff more

BEST CRAB WONTONS IN THE BAY AREA!! 9/6/2004

Pros: 1. BEST CRAB WONTONS IN BAY AREA! I must get the crab wontons EVERY time I go here. Sometimes me and my honey go sit at the bar and order crab wontons only when we want a snack. 2. Service is ALWAYS quick & NEVER gotten bad service! 3. Food arrives fast. Cons: 1. Wait is ridiculous--10 minutes to 2 hours depending on the time of day. At least PF now allows call-in reservations which is highly recommended if you are coming from out of town. Nice thing is that PF is located in broadway plaza, you can shop while you wait! Now, to me, thats cool, cuz I love to browse and shop. Sorry, but there is only one con for PF Changs. I highly recommend you to eat here. :) This is coming from someone who has been to PF about 50 times since it opened. ENjoY! Pros: Food, Service, Location more

A Very Odd Experience...will not go back 6/6/2003

First, we ordered the mushu chicken, the waitress said that there was a disclaimer from the management: ""I wanted to let you know that 99% of the Mushu chicken is cabbage. Do you still want to order this dish?"" We said sure. Second, ten minutes later, she returned to let us know they ran out of the powder to make a tapioca drink that I ordered. I said, okay. Half way through the meal, my friend sees another waitress carrying out a tapioca drink to another customer. We inquired our waitress about the drink and she placed the order again. She returned to say that she can't place the order because ""the computer"" is preventing her from placing the order. She told us we could go look at the computer for proof. We said no. The food is fair, but the service was really odd. I will never go back. Pros: good parking, inexpensive Cons: better service more

P.U. Chang's 1/12/2003

When PF Chang's first opened we were hopeful that we had finally found a chinese restaurant that used fresh ingredients without overflavoring the dishes. After dining several times at the WC restaurant (10-12 times; we REALLY wanted to like this place) we have come to the conclusion that the food is mediocre to bad and the seating staff is horrible. The hostesses (snot-nosed, snooty kids) are rude and unfriendly, although we were treated well be the servers. Overall, though, this surprisingly popular (are Walnut Creekians that desperate?) restaurant is for the birds (although the overly spiced food may not even appeal to them)...hence P.U. Chang's. more
