OK, so when you walk into La Mexicana you think, hmph, just another dumpy little Mexican place. You wait a bit too long for your order to be taken, and the server doesn't smile. ...

Tortillas just like abuelita's 9/10/2006

OK, so when you walk into La Mexicana you think, hmph, just another dumpy little Mexican place. You wait a bit too long for your order to be taken, and the server doesn't smile. But then you order guacamole and tortillas. You take a quick trip past the tiny kitchen, and you can SEE your guacamole being made fresh. And the tortillas are being shaped by hand. The food here is outrageously fresh and authentic. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and there is no lard in the beans. The tortillas are completely unrelated to the grocery store version--thick, hot, fresh, handmade. They barely bend around the meat in the chicken tacos, which are juicy and delicious. This place is only open Wednesday-Sunday, and they serve no beef, only chicken and pork. But it's unique, delicious, and warrants repeated visits for food you can't get elsewhere in the area. Pros: Homemade fresh Mexican food for a great price, no lard, handmade tortillas Cons: Lackluster service, very plain and basic looking place more

Delish! 7/27/2005

The Aguas Frescas are AMAZING. Be sure to check out the specials. Their Carnitas (weekends only) are sooooo good, the Sopas, and allll the Marsicos. I tend to have to be careful with Mexican food because it can upset my digestive system but NEVER here at Otaez. Quailty Ingredients! Impeccible foods! Basically one of the best values and high quality local Mexican places. Not vegetarian friendly really, so you've been warned. This is a family locals, local cops, working stiffs kind of place where people are cashing their pay checks and grabbing a yummy meal. Otaez is my favorite. Pros: QUALITY food, Great Service, On the Cheap more
