Friendly Service, Nice Prices, Good Times 10/3/2008

Went in today, on my lunch break from work, looking for a low cost, semi-vintage guitar to record with and happily walked out with a '99 $100 Fender Squire! The service was amazing, relaxed and considerate. They knew I had an ultra tight budget so they hooked me up with a $5 (a $25 value) Fender gig bag to safely take my new friend home in the afternoon PDX rain. I would recommend Old Town Music to anyone and everyone- thanks guys!!\r DNNYDIRTY Pros: Service, prices, selection Cons: Too much good stuff more

Worst music store in my experience 7/14/2008

The first time I went to Old Town Music, I was trying to find a good amplifier. I know more about guitar equipment than most people I've met working at music stores like this, and I spend my life researching and repairing. The people at Old Town Music were not interested in me and didn't know half as much as I did. So I went back a second time and wanted to know what kind of speakers were in one of their Fender cabs. The employee made me open up the cab (all 30-some screws) and didn't even know what kind of speaker was in it. So he said he'd call me when he found out from his boss, and I never got a call. So I called back to ask and they still never replied. Then my ""amp-freak"" friends said for me not to go there because they lie a lot and just try to look like they know what they're talking about. I decided to go back though because it's the only vintage guitar store in town. The employees again treated me like dirt and started pricing things to me much higher than they're worth. Then they asked if I was ready to make a purchase. WHAT THE HECK? Did they actually think I was going to buy something from them? Well they shouldn't have, and I never plan on going back there again. I trust eBay more than these losers. Pros: Decent selection Cons: AWFUL STAFF that overprices, doesn't know their products, makes customers do the work, and COMPLETELY devalues the customer more

Excellent customer service, kind and caring staff 2/1/2007

Well, after trying to get my kid's guitar fixed at Apple music, we went down the street to Old Town. The difference was night and day. The folks at Old Town were very helpful, and careful to diagnose the guitar's problems. They gave us good, thorough advice about our options for fixing the guitar. \r \r We ordered the parts. They came in on time. The repair worked out great. \r \r They have a pretty good selection, and can get you anything that you need. They're just great people. Pros: Intelligent and Caring staff Cons: Parking in Old Town is a little tricky more

Best Music Shop in Portland 11/21/2006

I recently stopped in for the first time. I had a very enjoyable experience. The employees were friendly and very knowledgable. They helped me make the purchase of my first electric guitar and am still satisfied with my purchase. I would recommend Old Town Music over any other music shop in Portland. They will treat you like a person! I mean to say that I have felt more like a number than a customer in other shops that I prefer not to go into. Keep up the good work guys! Pros: Knowledgable employees, great customer service Cons: Limited to guitars etc, due to space. Where's the drum shop? more
