AVOID! 5/1/2008

My husband and I went on a Thursday night, 7 PM. The salad bar was lacking, but perhaps OK for those used to Brazilian food. My problem was that all the meats were so well done we could hardly chew them, had no flavor and extremely salty - so we gave up and not wanting to waste the meat, we took what was on our plates home to our 4-legged pal. I am very happy that we only each took a small amount. We were the only people in the place - so I guess that should have been a warning. I read the other reviews and can not understand how our food was so bad. more

Delicious Casual Dinning - The Brazilian Way! 2/21/2008

Last night I met some new friends at Oba Brazilian Restaurant. We are all part of a local Portuguese Language Meetup and selected Oba as our meeting location. When I walked in I was immediately taken back to Brazil and some of the places where I had eaten while visiting friends. I was greeted by a friendly hostess/server who showed me to our table and explained the process of going through the buffet and then ordering meat from the Brazilian barbeque (All you can eat, btw) The food was just like I remembered eating at many of the small, casual, family owned restaurants in many cities of Brazil. The meat was cooked to perfection, the salads were fresh, and the carbs were delicious; yucca, potatoes, rice, beans - it was all there. And the price was very reasonable compared to the more expensive Brazilian restaurants around town. Midway through our dinner, the owner came over and joined our conversation. Overall, my friends and I had an enjoyable time. Good food, good conversation, and a casual atmosphere that encourages you to stay as long as you like. I'll be back again and again. I recommend you trying it. Pros: Casual atmoshphere, friendly service, great value Cons: I would like to have seen some fresh mango on the salad bar and I didn't see any farofa. more

Awsome steaks, juicy flavorful, tender, very delicious. But everything else was not all that... the fried Yukka was cold under a heat lamp, crab legs were over cooked, the rices were a bit greasy... but the rice pudding was excellent (added some coconut for added taste. When I called the restaurant told me that I had to make a reservation, but when we got there (5 of us) it's like a cafeteria like... refused to take 2 coupons, they said one coupon per group... next time we'll have to sit separately... Pros: Good steaks and rice pudding Cons: Steaks and rice pudding is the only thing that's good. more

GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT SERVICE, AUTHENTIC BRAZILIAN CUISINE! 11/2/2007

I and my wife love this place! We eat there as often as we can as it is a very authentic Brazilian dining experience. I read a review that said "Avoid at all costs", but the reviewer was certainly looking for an "American" dining experience. Carbs? YES! There had better be! I want wonderfully cooked meat and I get it there. I want rice and beans... I get it there. Best of all: It is no where NEARLY as expensive as the popular Brazilian restaurants. Oba caters to local Brazilians or Amercians who are looking for authentic Brazilian cuisine and people, not the "trendy" people looking for a great wine list to go with their "ambiance". I suggest that if you want absolutely GREAT FOOD at a price you can live with, this is where you want to go. If you want Pierre to serve you your merlot next to your hand stuffed low-cal and low-carb manicotti before you get to your tiramisu and cordial, you might not want to eat at Oba, but... If you want GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT SERVICE and most of all, GREAT BRAZILIAN food: EAT AT OBA! I have had the honor of speaking with the new owner as he continues to transform the place into a cleaner and brighter environment for his diners, I can say that he is very proud of what he has in that restaurant and it shows when you walk in the door. I highly recommend Oba to anyone wanting Brazilian cuisine at a realistic price. You just can't beat it! See you there! Pros: Price, Service, Food Quality and Selection, Great People! Cons: Not your "trendy" upscale place (if that is what you are looking for). more

I really love this place! The food is really good and I wish the restaurant was closer to my house because I would be able to go more! My favorite thing about Oba is the food and the people that work there. The flavor of the food at Oba reminds me of my home in Brasil. Sometimes, I can't cook like my mother did, so I can get the same great food from Oba. The people there are very friendly and the owner is so sweet. Oh! The price! My husband I cannot afford to eat at Fire of Brazil or Carro de Boi often at all, so this place is our #1 Brasilian restaurant! It has the same foods, but it tastes better and best of all, it costs so much less! I tell all of my friends to go there! Pros: Price, taste, service and people! Cons: It is too far from my house! more

Avoid at all costs 6/30/2007

My husband and I dined with some friends at this restaurant on a Saturday evening for dinner. We were greeted with friendly faces of people eagerly wanting to show us how the process works. Unfortunately, we were the only customers that were there so we were bombarded with service! One other couple did come in as we were leaving - but we were there at prime dinner hour on Saturday evening and the lack of business was VERY sad. The food was not even average. The buffet was fresh but the food was not good. There were mostly carb foods on the buffet (rice, beans). There was no type of bread offered. There was a sad salad bar with lettuce and a couple of items to put on the lettuce - only 1 dressing to choose from. The desserts (supposed to come with the price of the buffet) was fruit and rice pudding. Nothing else. The meats which are cooked on a grill and you go and pick out what you want and as much as you want were quite odd in taste. The meats were salted down to where everything tasted the same - I'm talking about everything from filet mignon to sausage. And, if you like you meat cooked well or medium - well forget it - everything was very rare and rare. The meat was tough (including the filet) and none of us could stand the taste of any of it. We left the restaurant with our plates full of meat that we could not eat and filing up on rice and beans and little bit of rice pudding. It is no wonder we were the only people in the restaurant. There is nothing I would recommend in this restaurant except for the very kind service that we received. The food was awful awful awful. We left and needless to say will never go back!!! Pros: service Cons: ambience, food more

By far best deal Brazilian Steak House 1/10/2007

I go here for lunch all the time from my office and I love it. I'm a big fan of any Brazilian restaurant that has the steak cooking over the fire, but most are a little pricey for lunch every week. I've tried the pricier one's in town too, $25 for lunch range, and I honestly prefer OBA, there seems to be a lot more flavor and you can go right up and choose what you want and not be bombarded by all the cheaper meats and deal with your little green/red sign on the table. The salad bar is great and it's perfect for lunch from work because the food is already prepared so your in and out in no time. Pros: Great deal on some great steak (top sirloin, ribs, filets) Cons: Dining is simple but nice more
