In Short
In the 19th century, Nantasket was a popular resort. Although this 1.3-mile-long barrier beach has lost its luster, the MDC now operates it and is doing much-needed improvements. The historic--and still working--carousel is from the now-defunct but once-famous amusement arcade, Paragon Park. The carousel owners had considered moving it to New York. But local sentiment was so strong that a grass-roots group raised $1 million to keep it at Nantasket.
