I don't know what the last reviewers were thinking. The reviews make me think that there is a different Dr Beck and they are reviewing him Dr Beck has been nothing but caring and informative. I trust his judgment completely. Yes, you can probably find a budget dentist, but you usually get what you pay for. As for the dog, he/she was actually a doberman when I went. He was a bit intimidating, but the dog was JUST in the front office, was nowhere near the clinic part and looked very clean to me more

Horrible!!!! I would never in a million years go to this guy again! I would rather let my teeth rot. I also used a groupon due to no dental insurance. I was told I had seven cavities. Seven. I have NEVER had a cavity. I was then told two could be root canals...but he wouldn't be able to tell until he started drilling. WTF! For someone without dental insurance that is a pretty big price difference. I said F that and went to a new dentist who said there was NOTHING wrong with my teeth...NOTHING!!! This guy is a crook! more

Do not go to this place!!! I wen to his office in SE Portland and it was terrible. First, therer was a white dog whose hair was too long and not the cleanest. Besides who would have a dog at the dentist? There was hair all over the seats... The staff was very nice however Dr Beck was very rude and it seemed like he was just trying to make money. The treatment plan I got, I went to a different dentist and it was way cheaper.I live here on South Waterfront and i know its convenient but i would rather drive to another state than go see Dr Beck!!! more

It had been 10 years since my last visit to a Dentist and the decade marker gave me enough courage, along with my friend's recommendation of Dr. Todd Beck, to finally go to the ""dreaded"" Dentist! When I called to schedule the appointment, I was met on the phone by a lovely woman's voice who seemed quite warm, welcoming, and authentically engaged in her work and attentiveness to my needs. I explained my initial needs and desires along with my concerns which she addressed confidently and most reassuringly to allay my fears of the Dentist visit to which I was SO not looking forward to! In addition, she explained, while confirming the dental appointment, what I could do to prepare for the visit and what the insurance billing process would look like and how it was handled. Excellent! When I actually arrived for my appointment, I was greeted personally and professionally by the woman I had spoken with on the phone and was then introduced to Dr. Todd Beck. Dr. Todd Beck was a very warm, sincere and genuine human being with a personality and not merely a medical professional, but highly professional he was indeed. He gave me an inviting handshake and smile as we discussed what I needed to get done and how that would unfold. During the procedure both Dr. Beck and his assisting staff made me feel at complete ease with the process. They explained what they were doing, why they were doing it, and how I would experience it through various sensations. Both Dr. Beck and his staff were open to questions and commentary throughout the procedure and after especially regarding jargon and medical terminology. (believe me, I have many thanks to my curious and somewhat over-active mind!) The actual environment of the Dentist office itself was quite sterile in the medical-procedural way, but the color scheme, personality of the staff and even the ""office dog"" truly put me into a state of relaxation and ease. (I noted a negative commentary from another patient, but that person's experience was quite contradictory to my own. Having a dog in the Dentist office is definitely a Portland thing and was welcomed by me. Never once did I worry or notice a thing about a lack of sanitation. The dog in question was and remained separate from any of the dental instrumentation and there was no potential for cross contamination. If there was an issue, Dr. Beck would not be operating as he is - there is a system of checks and balances for medical procedures and codes of conduct.) To sum up the experience, I would describe it as both professionally and personally authentic. I am looking forward to the routine maintenance and continued working Dental relationship with Dr. Todd Beck and his wonderful staff members... (as much as I can look forward to Dental work! Overall my dental appointment with Dr. Beck was average at best. You get the same talk from every dentist ""you have a cavity here and a cavity there"" even though my previous dentist said I had no cavities just two months ago. Very frustrating. The incident that shocked me the most is having a dog running all around the office, with all the fur flying around on the chair and dental instruments. This is not a sanitary condition. This is the first time in my life (and i've been to a lot of dental offices before) that i see a dog roaming around freely in an office, I am a dog owner myself and would never let this happen. more

Dr. Beck and his staff were all very kind, and had great customer service. However, I was a bit frustrated by my experience there. I rarely have cavities or anything wrong with my teeth, so it's usually in-and-out when I go to the dentist. But this time, I was there for over 2 hours! To me this seems like a long time. After the initial cleaning, xrays, and exam, Dr. Beck came over to chat with me about my teeth. He explained that I had two cavities that needed filling; that they hadn't turned into root canals yet but he would recommend filling them as soon as possible (I heard him tell this exact same thing to the next patient over also). Hmm, okay. Then, I was given an estimate for 500-something dollars, and asked if I would like to schedule an appointment to take care of it. So just to be sure, I had my xrays sent over to my usual dentist of whom I've been going to for years (I wasn't able to see him this time because of a scheduling conflict). I told my dentist that Dr. Beck had found two cavities that needed filling soon. He immediately called me back after looking at the xrays and said ""Even if you wanted me to fill those teeth, I wouldn't, because there is nothing there! I am looking at two spots in your teeth that could potentially be there for the rest of your life and are certainly NOT cavities or needing fillings."" I wanted to share this review because I, like many other people, try to avoid dentists who only are out there to make money. I know there are many out there like this, which only makes me appreciate my regular dentist more. Maybe Dr. Beck is trying to help his patient have beyond perfect teeth, I am not sure, but wish he had been honest with me. I felt a bit misled after my visit there, and like he just wanted my money. Also, there is a dog freely wandering around the office. I found this strange, even though I absolutely adore dogs and have one of my own. I feel like a dentist's office should be a sterile and sanitary environment and how can it be if there is fur and everything else that comes along with having a dog around? I struggled whether to even write this review after I visited Dr. Beck's office because I didn't want to hurt the business. However, I feel that my experience there should be shared with any future clients who are considering making a visit to this office, just so they know what may be typical. more

This small dentist's office is right off the 15 bus on Belmont in SE Portland. Everyone from the office staff to assistants, hygienists, and the dentist himself are welcoming, friendly, and caring. They also have a great collective sense of humor and a great atmosphere (also a real cute office dog). Not only did they get me in relatively quickly, but were pleased to explain everything going on in my mouth- most importantly, they have some financial help with a 3-month payment plan. As someone without insurance, I appreciate this aspect a lot. I am already scheduled to go back and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great dentist's office. more

I have to share that if anyone is looking for a new destist they must RUN to Mt. Tabor Dental Pratice! The staff are so kind warm and detailed. I have never had such great care and attention given to my teeth.\r \r Dr. Beck is amazing and I feel so safe in his care. I had minimum pain when he performed my proceedures. I have been spending my summer's in Portland for the past two years and am so blessed to have found Dr. Beck and receive such WONDERFUL CARE. Now everyone can feel safe and sound that they have the best densist ever in your corner.\r \r more

I refer friends and coworkers looking for a dentist to Dr. Beck. HIs staff are kind and hard working. I would describe Dr. Beck as extremely competent, gentle, and sincerely wanting to provide the best care possible to his patients. I have never questioned his integrity and trust him one hundred percent. I hear he is opening a second practice downtown; if this is true. then those who work or live in the city have found their dentist. HIghly recommended! more

Finding a dentist that I like is one thing. Finding a dentist that I like that also comes with a culture of sincerely friendly, helpful and professional staff from front desk to hygenists is something very rare in my lifetime (I was actually lucky enough that situation in Anchorage before I moved to Portland). I used to dread going to the dentist until I found my dentist in Anchorage. When I moved to Portland about 5 years ago, I thought I had lost the luxury of a great dentist office. Luckily, I found Todd Beck's office and that luxury continues to this day! Todd runs a first class operation and has managed to cultivate an atmosphere that is both extremely professional and efficient while at the same time welcoming and friendly. The whole staff knows me by name. I am treated with respect and kindness by everyone, not just Todd. My appointments begin and end on time and I always walk out with a great dental work and a new toothbrush - I wish it were a big chocolate chip cookie, but somehow that never happens at the dentist. Why dread the dentist? Make your dentist experience great - go see Todd and his wonderful staff. more

I've been going to Dr. Beck for several years now. Each time I go to his office I'm greeted by a friendly staff. When I see Dr. Beck, he is extremely friendly and very competent. I would recommend this dentist to everyone. more

I work next door to Todd. He has been a great neighbor for 7 years. I started using him as my dentist about 5 years ago. I'm just sorry I didn't discover him sooner. Great staff. I've never waited more than a couple of minutes. Fast, efficient, great work, help me with billing. Could not be better. more

I became a patient of Dr. Beck's after a number of years of not getting dental care, after a bad experience with a different dentist. Needless to say, I had a number of issues that needed to be corrected, and Dr. Beck and his staff have been wonderful in getting my mouth back to health. I left Dr. Beck's practice several years ago due to a change in my dental insurance. This is the only reason why I left, as the care I received at Dr. Beck's office was top notch. Dr. Beck and his staff are the most caring, compassionate, and gentle dentist staff I've ever encountered. They took very good care of me, dealing with general cleanings to fillings and the like. My parents and friends have also been patients of Dr. Beck's and have all said the same things. My mother adores Dr. Beck, as I do. It's highly unlikely that you're going to find a dental team that matches the compassion and quality of dental care that you'll find at Mt. Tabor Dental. Dr. Beck and his staff genuinely care about their patients. In this regard, none of my previous dentists even come close. And he doesn't just excel in the soft skills. My family's separate pediatric dentist and periodontist both praised Dr. Beck as one of the region's best dentists - saying that his work has always been exceptional. After knowing Dr. Beck for many many years, I give him my highest recommendation as a person and a professional. And he has hired an outstanding staff - from hygienists to front-office staff. more

dr beck and his staff actually listen. his dental treatment and work are excellent. the delivery compassionate. i felt he took my entire health issues to heart in designing both my treatment and the appropriate medications to treat my conditions. my dental needs were addressed with care and compassion....i felt nurtured as a person while he was addressing my specific dental needs.....it's not just about the teeth anymore............ more

Dr Beck and his staff are the best dental office I have ever been to. They have taken the most time and care for the health of my teeth and mouth! I have never had any one take that much care before! I have known Dr Beck for over ten years and he and his staff have always treated me with respect and given professional service including an emergency root canal. I have had many dentists as I have moved around the northwest and a couple of have been adequate, several were one time visits only because I felt the care was substandard or the staff just did not care.
