Best

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

Worst

The best thing about this hotel is its location. Close to the beach, shopping and the night life. Rooms, although clean are dull and depressing. They remind me of a college dorm...

Awesomenesssss 10/24/2009

This is the coolest place I have ever been to! If you're looking for a generic every day hotel then do not stay here. However if you enjoy funky decor and hip people you must check it out. I picked the hotel mainly because of the location and given what I paid I was not expecting having as great an experience as I had. Rooms were super cute and always tidy and the staff here really goes above and beyond. I felt like we were all friends by the time I checked out. I can't wait to go back! Pros: Unique atmosphere and super friendly staff more

R O A C H E S 1/24/2009

Upon checking in I thought the hotel was fun and different with the unique decor. However we go to the room and the sink in the bathroom was broke with a trash can under it to catch the water. Then we woke up the next morning with a giant Palmetto r o a c h (the website would not permit me to write it out so i had to space it) on our curtains. If you have never seen one.....look it up, they are huge! It was about 5 inches long! They told us it was because our window was open (which was apparently open upon checking in because we did not open it) so we stayed. However we came back later that night and found several of these insects and began packing. We were forced to look for a new hotel and move hotels at 1:30 am. Then I had to worry the entire rest of the trip that maybe I had these insects in all my things. Extremely unpleasant. Pros: The unique decorations were fun. Cons: The R O A C H E S more

This is a NO GO! 10/8/2008

Worst experience I have ever had in Miami. I go often, and would not recommend The Hotel/Spire Bar. Service was poor and food was just okay. The drinks were watered down, and the bartenders were very unpleasant. For such a swanky, and well talked about place, save yourself and go somewhere else! more

Poor Service 9/30/2008

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to South Beach. I agree with the other posts that the customer is never right. The bartenders, bell hops, registration employees spoke with attitude and made me feel inadequate. The hotel's manager is a know it all, pushy and unaccomodating man who has little respect for the few guests the hotel had during my stay. Mr. Manager, your slicked up suit and pushed back hair do not do you any good because your customer service skills lack tremendously. Bar tenders throughout favored individuals and treated others like peasants. This hotel was disappointing and made me feel like a third class citizen. Too bad you will not see repeat business from myself or my colleagues again. Cons: Customer service more

Great Hotel with a Great Pool Scene 11/27/2007

I love this hotel! I have stayed here about 5 or 6 times and always enjoy it. The rooms are small but functional. The rainfall showers are great especially nice if you're tall like me. Despite some of the other reviews, I really find the staff to be nice and helpful. They really know the area as well and can help you with any type of bar or restaurant info. The one exception is the valet. They are contracted by the hotel and are really SLOW! Expect 20 - 30 minutes to get your car. Not a good value for the $25 per day. I recommend street parking. It's surprisingly easy to find and you can park for four hours on your credit card for $1 per hour. and overnight is free!\r The best part of this hotel is the rooftop pool. It is simply gorgeous! It is a great place for the fun people have fun. There is a great view of the beach and lots of comfortable chaises. The pool is topless and, in general, that's the rule. It's a very relaxed scene and my girl enjoyed wearing as little as possible and getting rid of her tan lines. Feel free to loose your inhibitions at this pool. Truly South Beach at it's best!\r The pool bartenders are really great too, especially Martin and Calisto. They are very relaxed and have fun and will really take care of you. Try one of the house specialty frozen mojitos. But, please do not bring your kids here. Pros: Rooftop pool Cons: Valet parking more

It was nice - but never again! 8/20/2007

Front desk service is non-existence. I got such attitude checking in/out - hello, I'm giving you money, not begging to stay there. But the other staff members were great...the hotel's clean, though it SCREAMS IKEA. I had a good time with my friends but would NEVER stay there again. Pros: Front desk attitude Cons: Great location more

Never Stay Here 7/23/2007

NEVER stay here. We booked our reservations for two rooms FOUR months in advance. When the first girl in our party arrived she was told they had our rooms but she could not check in until the person whose name the reservation was under had arrived. Within three hours we all were there, and they then told us they had lost our reservations. After refusing to leave without an explanation, we were told a million lies ? they went from saying they lost the reservations to saying the rooms had leaks and couldn't be rented out! We spent hours trying to speak with the manager. She wasn't there and didn't answer calls from her employees (allegedly, anyway). We were not compensated in any way for this huge error and were told to come back the next day to speak with Karen. She amazingly had a ""family emergency"" that day and was unavailable to talk with us. What a horrible way to run a business. We had traveled from all over the country (L.A., NYC, Tennessee, San Fran and Ohio) to give our best friend a great bachelorette celebration. Whitelaw ruined the first several hours of our trip and offered nothing in return for their giant mistake! I am amazed they can stay in business. It's an embarassment to the entire South Beach area. Pros: we booked for location more

Worst Service Experience Ever! 12/3/2006

This Hotel's staff philosophy is; ""The customer is never right""! They seem to have no long term customer relationship skills. The management obviously relies on it's prime location and trendy Interior Design.\r more

This is the spot 150% customer service 3/3/2006

We had booked at another hotel down the street that wasnt what the web said it was. I walked in the front door and the young woman at the desk listened to me and my situation . She told me that she would be more than glad to get us a room and match the rate that we were to pay up the street. In fact the staff here was so helpful that we can not wait to go back and visit. Man the pool on the roof you can be served a drink and not get sand in your suit this pool is like no other and that signiture drink they serve is like liquid gold. My hat is off to you for customer service. Keep it up. Pros: great service, pool on roof, rooms are chic more

Pink 1/24/2004

The best thing about this hotel is its location. Close to the beach, shopping and the night life. Rooms, although clean are dull and depressing. They remind me of a college dorm . Beds are really ancient and uncomfortable, in fact one of them had a broken frame. Nice building but very much in need of renovation. I have certainly stayed in much better budget accommodation before and would not go back. Probably fine for students and backpackers though. Pros: Location Cons: rooms shabby, Beds uncomfortable more

Hip & Charming 1/13/2004

I was a guest at the Whitelaw Hotel from 12/30/03 to 1/4/04 and I just wanted to write to express to you how much I enjoyed my stay there. I found the hotel to be very clean, well-managed, and it managed somehow to be both hip and charming. All the staff was great, but I must single out Jeff, Patricia, and Michelle for particular praise. Jeff and Patricia always went above and beyond in trying to accomodate my requests for reservations and Michelle was also a great source for information. And their collective kindness was refreshing and sincere and reflected very well on the hotel. I certainly intend to stay at the Whitelaw during any future visits to Miami. more

hip and friendly 12/30/2003

This is one of the coolest hotels . My girlfriends and I recently spent a week in SOBE. When I started researching places to stay that agreed with our budget all that I could find was the typical re-done, generic, and boring hotel. The Whitelaw had so much charm, and attention to detail in its design. It shows that a big effort was made in making it hip and unique. The staff was young and friendly and the manager even joined our party for coffee one afternoon. It felt like we were staying at a friends house. In addition, everything was included and taken care of. You need transportation; there is the hotels shuttle. You get hungry; theres free breakfast. Need a drink; theres an open bar every night. Cant get into a club? You get VIP passes. Need to shop ...beware! the best shops are next to the hotel more

THe Final Installment: focus on location 2/27/2003

(last PArt)... Only one short block away from the beach which is GREAT! Wet Willies (a big fun bar) is right on 8th and Ocean, which is on the way to the beach. Also there are a lot of nightclubs, on Washington Ave. which is one short block in the other direction. Very good location and decent, clean service to sum it all up. I hope my review was helpful! Oh yes, I was only there for 3 days in October in case you were wondering. Alright--Happy Hotel Hunting! more

A stylish hotel at a great value 1/29/2003

Stayed here with 2 friends for 3 nights. Good location near tons of shops & restaurants, 1 block from beach. Staff friendly and extremely helpful. Rooms clean & attractive but needed towel bars, a wastebasket, & more space to store clothes! Bathrooms nice but water pressure on the trickle-y side. Cocktail hr and breakfast a great bonus. Airport shuttle 1/2 hr late. Overall not as upscale as their website might suggest but very comfortable. Pleasant stay & hope to return. Pros: location, white everything Cons: noisy (thin doors), lack of furniture more

Funky, cool & relaxed 1/22/2003

Stayed here over Art Deco Weekend. Good location to shopping, dining and Ocean Drive festivities. Off the main drag. Staff super-friendly and helpful, although a request on last day to fix clogged toilet went unanswered. Happy ""hour"" was nice (but their website says it's from 8-10, info in room says 7-9 - in actuality - it's only 7-8 pm). Also, conflicting information given on the free shuttle to/from the airport. Ask hotel directly when the shuttles run. Room was clean, towels plentiful, robes are nice. CD player was broken, though. Also, there is a ""resort fee"" of $5/day that the State of Florida imposes on your stay. This is not disclosed on the Whitelaw website. All-in-all, it was an enjoyable place to stay. The long bed-like couches on the front porch invite lounging in the sun. Cool music drifts in and out of the front door. I'd recommend it. Pros: Friendly staff, Moderate prices, Clean Cons: slow response, to service requests more

Unique Design 12/30/2002

I had an excellent stay at the Whitelaw Hotel. Very unique design and great atmosphere. Exellent service! I very much enjoyed the happy hour. Thanks for a wonderful stay- I would definitely come back and recommend to others! Pros: Happy Hour, Excellent Service, Design more

Cozy for Cruise 12/29/2002

We, unfortunately, only stayed one night at the Whitelaw, but loved the hotel. It was very cozy and the big couches/lounge chairs on the front porch are wonderful. This time we were only needing a place to stay prior to our cruise, but hope to return when we can spend a few days in South Beach and be lazy on the porch, etc. Great place/great time - will recommend to others Pros: Port Shuttle, Front Porch, Free Drink Cons: no pool more

Shop till you drop 12/28/2002

One of the best locations in South Beach, near all the shops I love. Rooms are great and the service fab as well. Small hotel, and personal service. Love the free airport shuttle, saved $60. Pros: Free Drinks Cons: Parking more

MIXED REVIEW 11/4/2002

I stayed there for a week and a half and I thought it was very nice (they did raise the rate on me when I got there by about $20 per night but then upgraded me to a larger room). The people that work there are great, they will bend over backwards to help you. The entire raising the rate on me thing pissed me off at first, but guys like Mitchell and Jason made me feel better about the place very quickly. Its not the Ritz but it has enough niceties (the entire bathroom is made of marble, cheap marble but still marble) to make you feel like you are pampering yourself a little bit at least. The rooms can be quite small but the rooms in south beach generally are pretty tiny. The rooms are very clean and well appointed. I would recommend this place to friends. more
