Nice Selection of Gear; Friendly and Knowledgeable Staff 2/14/2010

If I am planning a hike at Dog Mountain or skiing at Mt. Hood, I have been able to find everything I need to outfit my trip. Clayton was fabulous at helping me pick out new boots and skis. My boots fit like slippers. Jeremy and Steve are amazing at recommending climbing and hiking gear. I will definitely return before my next trip out. Pros: Knew equipment and could recommend what I needed. Cons: Parking and access is challenging with street sewer work. more

Terrible Customer Service 3/17/2008

I have rented downhill skis from The Mountain Shop twice on a Saturday in the last two months, and both times have been completely ignored by staff in the (understaffed) rental shop and then--after waiting 5-10 minutes--the staff has been rude and unhelpful. Upstairs, checking out at the front desk, was no better. When we returned the skis on Monday, the staff was similarly unhelpful. \r \r Staff acts continually put upon by anyone needing service. \r \r This shop already has a terrible reputation among people I know in Portland, and my recent experiences there have only added to it. I'm not going back. \r \r more

most knowleadgeable, and great customer service 2/25/2008

Clearly the most knowleadge staff in town in regards to skiing equipment. They did an excellent job refitting my boots and were patient with spending a lot of time with me working on the best fit. When we realized that we had done everything we could, and that the sizing was wrong, they took back the boots after a year of hard use, and gave me a great deal on in store credit. They may cost a bit more, but their knowleadge and ability to stand by their product are more than worth it! more

Best local ski shop 1/18/2008

I had some problems with my AT boots after 2 yrs of use. Despite not having any warranty, Mountain Shop went through a great extent to fix my boots. After 2 days i had my boots back. more

Great Service 11/22/2004

Coming from the Midwest, almost any ski shop in Portland is going to have a better selection of equipment than what you'd find in Southern Illinois. However, last August, after visiting a few other stores to shop and sell some equipment that I'm not able to use in Flatland, USA, I found that the Mountain Shop staff was extremely helpful and very helpful. The customer definitely came first. I had completely forgot about my telemark boots when a very generous check showed up in my mailbox. Thanks Jeremy. Pros: Service, Quality, Educated more

Good Stuff, Poor Store 7/26/2002

Mountain Shop definitely has good gear, but after having gone to the place many times, I've finally had enough. Recently, I spent almost 500 bucks gearing up for a trip over a cuople days. When I came to return 1 pair of pants that didn't fit the next day (of course I lost that particular receipt), I was told I could not have a refund. Not even an exchange -- not even for just a differest *size*. I needed a receipt. And the guy telling me this was *same* guy who helped me pick the pants out about 24 hours ago. He remebered me buying it, so what's the deal? Their service and help has always been subpar. I figure if I can't get my money back at least I can warn people not to waste theirs at The Mountain Shop. There are *many* other places to go... Pros: selection Cons: unfriendly more
