Mount Washington is an area of hardwood forest with mountain laurel and wildlife including white-tailed deer, black bear and fox.
The area is rolling to hilly and less mountainous than nearby forests. It is home to oak and sugar maple with some hemlock and white pine. Within the forest are Ruggles Pond and Wickett Pond.
The trail system offers open ridge walking and outstanding views. Difficulty varies from easy to strenuous. Some of the nearby mountains are privately owned and inaccessible, but there's ample backcountry for hikers.
The Appalachian Trail crosses Mt. Everett, heading south into Connecticut. A trailhead for Mt. Everett is at the Berkshire School off Route 41.
