In Short
The trail gains nearly 5,000 feet in just over five miles, and it's as tough a climb as it sounds. Sights include the bizarre Hole-in-the-Wall Falls, Lancaster Falls, and the elevator shaft. Views of the Gorge from the almost 5000-foot summit are predictably beautiful. Unusually heavy flooding wracked the Columbia Gorge in the winters of 1995-96 and 1996-97. Some hiking trails were badly damaged, and extensive repair work was required in some places.
