the Morning Times 4/5/2011

The triangle is getting alot of recognition for its beaneries & baristas – they’re winning pretty prestigious regional awards. You go, NC! Morning Times has delivered this exceptional reputation in each crafty lil’ cup of jolt I’ve tried. \r \r I’ve had the opportunity to taste Morning Times Sugar-free Vanilla, French Toast, & Vanilla Bourbon lattes and each was prepared with a level of detail as if it was the only cup the man had to create that day—Foam Art & Tasty (win, win.)\r \r The location also provides indoor & outdoor seating and is an art space – which I haven’t ventured upstairs to see… when in drivable distance—I make a point to stop in and try a new caffeinated concoction. I like you, Morning Times. more

Cosmic Staff, Magical Drinks! 12/18/2007

five stars to this wonderfully kept coffee house that offers the provisional coffee beverages, pastries (from hereghty heavenly delicious) and to-go sandwiches. the staff know their customers by name and remember their regular drink orders. both food and drink are delicious, the shop is always neat, and there is ample seating upstairs. \r \r the only drawback might be for the newcomer trying to find the shop for the fist time; the shop has only semi-permanent signage. it's located on the first block of hargett , between wilmington + fayetteville streets (and next to the raleigh times). Pros: delicious food, friendly staff more

  • Fine dining meets Chinese and Vietnamese home cooking at The Duck & Dumpling in downtown Raleigh, where Chef David Mao creates Asian bistro fare in this urban contemporary restaurant. Raised by Chinese parents in Vietnam, which was then a French colony, Chef David blends the three culinary cultures of his heritage as the manager and executive chef at The Duck & Dumpling. From what used to be a furniture store in the 1930s, the restaurant's interior lighting casts a red glow onto historic Moore Square, welcoming guests inside to enjoy a varied pan-Asian menu. Chef David's flavorful specialties include handmade half-fried dumplings, edamame hummus, filet mignon chinois and poached sea scallops. The sophisticated menu is priced for everyday dining, whether for lunch or dinner, in the restaurant or in the mirrored mahogany bar area.

Editorial
  • In Short
The interior of Raleigh Times is made up of peeling paint, faded brickwork and soaring 15-foot pressed-tin ceilings juxtaposed with gleaming light wood floors and a contemporary room-length curved bar. Framed mementos of the building's past cover the walls--newspaper clippings, early 20th century news photos and lead type unearthed during the restoration. The menu features traditional pub fare with a twist: Look for BBQ pork nachos, crispy catfish and chips, and chicken fried pickles.
