Great Party Boat / Head Boat fishing. I'll get right down to it, the reason the Morning Star is great is because of the captain. Capt Monty is a fisherman first who knows the waters. He isn't there to make a ton of money, he isn't there to milk the tourists. He is there to put fish on the line and in your cooler. You do need to bring your own cooler for the fish you catch. Rule of thumb, if you can carry the cooler with one hand, it is too small. Bring your own food/drink too. The boat is for fishing not cooking you a hot dog 10 miles out.
My experience: Early October 2009, black sea bass was closed (early), every other party boat QQ'd and stopped going out. But not the Morning Star. She had 4, yes a whopping 4, paying guests and she was going out. Lets do the math here people: 1 Captain + 1 Mate + 1 Boat made to carry 22 people normally with only 4 paying customers (aka $400 - $100 each). Most small little charter boats wouldn't go out for that, I don't even know if that covers the diesel used. But Capt Monty wants to fish and fish he will. Everyone filled their coolers with keeper fish, mostly trigger fish - because that what was biting and they are super tasty. Had a great first time, look forward to more.
Some details:
Cost $100 for 7am to 3pm. While the highest of the party / head boats it is worth it. The extra $30 you pay over someone cheaper will be made up in a better fishing experience. I have fished on a dozen different party boats from Florida to Massachusetts and this was hands down the best.
Rod rental is $7 and the rods are in good shape.
Fish cleaning/filleting is $2 per
