Mongo's Saloon & Restaurant

The food here is great, it has everything from burgers to fish to salad, whatever you really want is there. The servers are friendly and get your food to your table steaming hot. The bar has a great selection of beers and the bartenders are surprisingly knowledgeable on drinks they can make. If you want to grab a good bite to eat, a beer, or even take the family; Mongo's is a good place to go. more

I'm not a picky guy at all, but I did not find a good thing about this place. The management was horrible, the cleanliness was very questionable, and the drinks were tiny! I went in to get a beer with some friends after work and we all seemed to agree that we'll not be going back. It's a drive bar and only regulars are welcomed. more

This was unbelievable, the Owner/Bartender just threatend me to leave because he changed the football game (which I was watching, since 3pm and spent over $40.) and in the 3rd quarter to nothing because another customer (who just walked in) wanted to watch a game that wasn't even brodcasted. Blank air was being shown. Unbelivable. The Owner/Bartender has no clue how to run a bussiness. He should of asked if it was ok to change the channel. And then when I questioned him on why my game got changed.. He responded, "How about I kick you out?" This is a place that has no clue how to treat a Customer. I will be going to Santa Maria to Stinky's to watch football from now on. By the way I only had 1 alcoholic drink durring that time. So I wasn't under the infuance or beligderant. I was just a football fan wanting to watch a game that I was watching for 3 quarters. I will never go to this horriable establishment again, and I hope anyone who reads this will avoid this joint for their own sake. more

I've been to quite a few bars in the area, to say the least mongos beats them all out hands down. R&d's seems to be somewhat of a skinhead bar, especially with the heat lamp and secret service s' on it. not to mention how many skins that hang out there and rant their hate. bills place, a hick bar.. not much more then that, heads on the wall, country music, and trashy people all around oh and pretty crappy drinks that are way over priced considering how much alcohol is in them. then you have harry's in pismo, good place to go if you want to get into a fight. and drink over priced drinks in really small glasses. The food at mongos is a toss up, sometimes its really good, others its mediocre. they could stand to do a litttle work on their menu and bring in some fresh food versus so much deep fried stuff and your run of the mill cheeseburger. hotwings are pretty good and have yet to let down. and the ahi has also yet to let let down. they also have theme nights where something always seems to be going on, ie. karaoke, movie night, lots of music and local bands/groups that play. its nice they have an outide area as well. if the bar/resaurant area gets too stuffy. Visiting from New Orleans, and was looking for some Karaoke.. Found Mongo's and decided to have some diner before singing., It was Tuesday night , 6th game of Laker's play offs and place was pretty full. Had one waitress taking care of all tables and she did a great job. Food was very good and Hot when it came to table. Very important to me. At ninish the Karaoke began and the KJ did a great job of getting the singers up on stage, The audience was a tuff one but on occassions was able to get them involved. I would recommend them to friends! Pros: Very clean, Polite Staff Cons: Men's room needs a little attention more

This place used to be really good,but has gone down hill fast. The management is horrible. I think they hired the manager from a dominos or something. Hes always on his phone and smoking. Even when there is noone around it takes 5 minutes for a drink. Not a classy place. They shoould change the name to Roadhouse it is a dive bar... The bathrooms are Horrific. The food Awful. The staff hygiene Scary. The drinks Small. The clientele Harley. The music loud and Obnoxious. We live here and it's hard to find a place that's not tourist orientated ( you know pump 'm in pump 'm out). At Mongo's your all ways treated like a member of the family, the owner is there most of the time and very kind and accessable (and never touts his celeberity, I mean the guy was in the show, " the Super Bowl"). any way the place is great! Pros: The best Bloody Mary's on the Cental Coast. Cons: Too close to a "7-eleven, if you know what I mean! more

We went in for all you can eat crab one Sat. evening. It was early, and only one other couple was there. They were arguing about how much money they lost in the dive cardroom next door, when 4 bikers came in and beat the s#?%t out of the man. Nobody tried to stop them, just alot of laughter from dirtbags in the bar. We left in a hurry, didn't finish our meal or pay. Classy place. more

My bf and I were in the area visiting his Mom, and stopped by Mongos for dinner. At first it was a bit quiet, so we sat at the bar. The manager and bartender were excellent, friendly and the guests were treated like family. We ended up staying for several hours, and having dinner. The food was to die for!! I had the southwestern chicken salad and it was the best I have ever eaten. It was so good, we went back the next night and they had live music - which was amazing! Between the friendly staff, great food, and entertainment - You can not go wrong! I wish we lived closer so we could go all the time!! This one is a winner!!! When coming to town, we used to frequent this place for the "fresh, local, organic" casual diing. Now it's just plain lousy. The portions are small, take a long time, many processed, not freshly made like last summer. The manager said it was focused more on "bar" food, but he should be spending more time on the floor than at the computer in the bar and smoking cigarettes. The owner needs to get a handle on this place it's really gone downhill in the last 6 months. more
