My partner, Michael, and I went to Mixtura the other night after being told a new client of our's wife was working there as a pastry chef. Mixtura took the old place of Zsimania (sp?) after it closed on the main drag in Kirkland.
Mixtura has a menu written to make you salivate and want a little bit of everything. The good news here is that you can - because they have most of the appetizers in 2 sizes; 1) in a tapas size plate and 2) in a appetizer size along with also having full entrees.
We had about 6 dishes we shared and Michael enjoyed a specialty ice cream flavor that is from a Peruvian fruit. Expect artful presentation of the food and very attentive service particularly if you're really interested in learning more about the foods and their origins. The staff was well versed in the menu and we were able to feel adventurous in our choices.
A portion of the restaurant allows bar seating at the kitchen which is where we sat and were able to watch the cooking staff prepare the meals. It was fun to see them in action and to be able to ask questions as they arose throughout our dinner without having to stop our waiter every time he came by. Who better to ask than those creating the meal? The chef was there and got involved with another couple down the bar from us so we didn't get a chance to meet him personally but from what we observed he was warm and friendly, willing to share many details about the foods Mixtura was serving.
There are also some very delicious and fun drinks on their adult beverage menu. It's worth it to forego your usual and sample one of two of Mixtura's concoctions. I will definitely be back and will recommend it to my friends.
