We've been there three times. The first was iffy but this last time was our last time. The pizza had a peculiar taste..was told by a proud waitress it was Cinnamon. The salad had ...

I drive 3 hours to eat here!! 12/28/2009

I live in Bend and make Mitzal a must stop when we come to Portland. The service and food are always top notch. I have never had any problems with service. The food has always been mouth watering, making me want to return as soon as possible. Pros: Best Real Authentic Mexican in Oregon more

We've been there three times. The first was iffy but this last time was our last time. The pizza had a peculiar taste..was told by a proud waitress it was Cinnamon. The salad had very little dressing and the foccacia bread was stale to say the least. Pros: OK atmosphere more

True Mexican at its finest 7/25/2009

After traveling to Mexico, and living in San Diego, it was great to find this little place that does serve authentic Mexican food. Peopole are friendly, you can see into the kitchen, and the spices are fresh. The only drawback I can see is that their menu changes weekly I believe. What you ordered last week may not be on the menu this week. Pros: Authentic Mexican food Cons: Menu more

Nothing even comes close to Mitzil. The real deal! 1/15/2009

I consider myself to be an expert Mexican chef. My Mexican grandmother taught me to cook and I spend a lot of time in Mexico every year seeking out the best culinary experiences I can find. Mitzil is hands down the best Mexican food in the entire area, by a mile. Pros: incredible food, an 0rgasmic delight of authentic tastiness, salsas are amazing, fresh tortillas, homemade mole to die for Cons: too far from PDX, not cheap, more

favorite authentic mexican cuisine ever! 12/27/2008

I was excited to discover a little piece of my country here in Oregon City. The food at Mitzil is amazing! It made me think of my childhood as I grew up in Mexico. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is interested in eating what actual Mexican people eat every day; not the tex mex version of Mexican food sold everywhere. Give your taste buds the gift of discovering real Mexican food. Pros: Authentic Mexican food, great ambience Cons: Not open Sunday's or Monday's more

Worst customer service ever! The service has changed since they first opened. 12/18/2008

POST CONTNUED: Pros: nothing Cons: Horrible customer service, not flexible on substitutions, sketchy location more

YUM! 11/30/2007

Best Mexican food around. The family that owns and operates Mitzil's are the best. Always friendly and happy to see you. They have wonderful items on the menu as well as daily specials. My favorite dishes are the camarones and the black bean enchiladas. My family and I have spent a lot of time in Mexico and can't believe we have a little piece of it right here in Oregon City! Pros: Excellent home cooked food Cons: Want more black bean enchiladas!!! more

Best Mexican EVER! 1/22/2007

This small family-owned restaurant is by far my FAVORITE restaurant in the Portland area. I am even willing to say it's the best restaurant I've ever been to - period. The food is hand made to order with fresh and healthy ingredients. No lard! And this is AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Don't expect to have hum-drum chips and salsa on the table when you sit down and order a ""chimichanga"" like so many Americanized Mexican restaurants. The food is true home-made Mexican food and they are passionate about serving healthy Mexican cuisine. Trust the chef - she is fantastic and she is a joy if you can interact with her. She truly makes you feel at home. Each table has an assortment of hand-crafted hot sauces - the Chef's own recipes - and I highly recommend the oil sauce with the charcoal (?) in it. I don't know what it is called, and I don't know how she makes it, but it is to DIE for. The atmosphere is so friendly and comfortable. My favorites are the mixteada con rajas, the burros, and the chilli relleno (special). They are working on adding more vegetarian options to their menu (but there already is plenty for a vegetarian) and expanding their menu. This restaurant is worth the drive if you don't usually venture out to Oregon City. Luckily I live within walking distance. Come out and try for yourself. You'll be hooked. Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service Cons: Not open on Sunday! more

Best Mexican Food anywhere. 7/12/2006

No lard, organic ingredients, cozy family atmosphere, friendly service. Great flavor - if you go, be adventurous and just get the special. Regular menu items are great too :-) more

Our favorite in the Portland area by far 5/10/2006

Absolutely fresh home-cooked Mexican food - everything is hand-made. Not your typical family Mexican restaurant (you won't find combination platters or $8 sugar-water margaritas) just amazingly good food. The daily specials are not to be missed. more
