Always look forward to the weekends 11/26/2010

Once the school week is over, I always look forward to weekend brunches in Miriams. Everything on the menu is delicious. The fresh made hummus and pita is a yummy appetizer to get ready for the meal ahead. My favorites are the sandwiches and the israeli breakfast. more

Rustic Cool & Tasty 2/11/2010

My wife and I live in the city and have good friends in Park Slope. We have dined a few times in various restaurants and although we did not know Miriam before we went there…we were pleasantly surprised. The food is a very interesting fusion of authentic Israeli/Mediterranean flavors with a touch of elegance but without being obnoxious. We recommend the Borekas to start with (just be carful because you might want them to keep coming) and my wife had the Mediterranean salad which was very good as well. For our main I had the Lamb Musaka and if you like eggplant this is the dish for you…it was hearty and full of flavor which was great for a cold evening. My wife had the filet of Branzino with a bunch of interesting sauces drizzled on them and she really enjoyed it as well. One other thing to mention is that the wine list was pleasantly elaborate and we were able to pair a terrific wine with our meal. Service was very good but not annoying and it seemed like the owner knew a lot of his customers which is always a good sign. We will definitely come back to Miriam…we love places that are a bit rustic with good food and wine and a cool atmosphere. Pros: Authentic Flavors Cons: Wait For Brunch more

I recommend a dinner visit 2/11/2010

I know everyone raves about the brunches, but we went to Miriam for dinner and had every little ""mezze"" appetizer they offer--it was delicious, the food was very fresh and the combinations were very cool--meatballs and a plum sauce was my favorite. Brunch is better if you have kids; for dinner, the restaurant is a lot more romantic, so I would leave the kids at home. Pros: Romantic at dinnertime Cons: not open for lunch in winter more

Love it 2/7/2010

I try to swing by Miriam every time I'm in Park Slope. The food is great and appropriately priced. I love the mezes and they have a great wine list. Service is always great, too. Also, try the mediterranean salad and knafe for dessert. Pros: Great ambiance and cuisine more

one of my regular spots in the slope 2/2/2010

I LOVE coming here for dinner, either with a few friends or with my boyfriend, and even by my lonesome. Half price wine (average bottle being $16) definitely draws me in, but the food is so delicious! I love ordering Mezes, especially when I can't make up my mind, they are a fun ""try a little bit of everything"" meal. The Bronzino is probably my favorite fish dish, and if they have the Lamb Shenk special next time you go... GET IT! yum! Pros: half price wine M-R, mezes, atmosphere Cons: can be very crowded for brunch- get there early! more

tasty food 3/20/2009

We ate there last night. The food tasted good, the decor is funky morrocan and the service was fine. They offered half price wine because it was a weekday. Overall it is well priced.\r \r It is nothing fancy or expensive. The wine came and the waitress screwed off the top. I found this surprising . I expected at least a plastic cork.\r \r We would go back. Pros: lots of non-meat options Cons: none really more

Best Brunch on 5th Ave 12/25/2008

Miriam is the best place to go in the neighborhood for low-key yet interesting brunch and dinner. The wine list isn't so bad either, and the staff is great too. Pros: Good cheap wine Cons: Specials don't change often enough more

bomb... 7/9/2008

Mabye a week ago or so I stopped in at Miriam for some dinner and it was good. I had their specia, which was ground beef stuffed onions with a plum sauce and white rice w/ veggies. It was spectacular, the sauce was mild but added just the right complement. I had a botttle of Bordeaux ""Cheatue Fage"" which was reccomended and fit perfect. For an appetizer I enjoyed an Artchoke Salad that seemed to be short a few articokes but whatever it was still bomb. But dessert it where it was really at. I usually am dissapointed with dessert menus, but they had a apple and pistachio stuffed filo with vanilla ice scream, need I say more? Pros: All good Cons: All good more

Awesome Brunch 10/30/2007

Miriam has an amazing brunch. They have mastered the art of eggs. I highly recommend the isearli breakfast. more

Good for Groups 10/18/2007

Went on Saturday in a group of 8 to the new location in Cobble Hill. The waiter was super nice, and our food was great. The folks who ordered the artichokes ""stuffed"" with meatballs were a bit surprised to see artichoke hearts with meatballs sitting on top when they arrived, but enjoyed them nonetheless. We got a little bit picky about choosing our wine, but our waiter seemed to have an endless amount of patience with us. We sat in the front, but noticed in the back there was a great nook/curtained off area set aside for a larger party coming later that night. It looked like a GREAT place to have a large birthday dinner (for 18 or so). It was the only place in the area that would take a group of 8 at the last minute, but I have a feeling it won't be that way for long! Pros: great wine list, fresh ingredients Cons: tables in front were a bit chilly by the swinging front door more

Fresh, creative, vegetarian-friendly 8/16/2007

Having eaten at the 5th Avenue location three times, I rate it as one of the best dinner options for vegetarians in Brownstone Brooklyn. There aren't a lot of veg entrees, but including the soups and salads, there is always something tasty for non-flesh-eating diners. The Mediterranean salad is a must, as is the knafe (sp?) for dessert. The wine list is broad for this level of (in)formality, and the mark-up is not outrageous. Service is casual, quirky, but competent. Expose yourself to some unusual flavors. Pros: Wonderful salads, good-value wine list Cons: Could expand the vegetarian--it's Middle Eastern, after all more

Great date spot 7/30/2007

I went with my boyfriend mid-week and we had a lovely time. Waitress was very friendly although not excessively attentive. It was a relaxed evening, so this was fine. Food was quite good - we had delicious berekas to start, as well as a hummus platter that comes with a pepper mix that was quite good. Main course we had fish, perfectly seasoned, albeit very well-done. As mentioned below, the atomsphere is lovely, lighting very tastefully designed, music choices very odd. A great date! more

Best brunch in park slope! 6/28/2007

fun place, great food, the occasional really bad music playing. The servers aren't in your face and the isreali brunch is the best. Dinner is very nice too with a more romantic feel. more

quiet little eatery 10/4/2006

Very nice atmosphere, dim, but not dark. As night decends, candles light most of the room, with additional mood lighting suspended from the ceiling. Music playing adds a nice touch too. Girlfriend had the lamb, which was a little overdone, but very tender. I ate the chicken with spinach over pita. The food was all ok, all rather simple. Desert however was excellent, mint tea was great, and the knafe was amazing. Id go back. Pros: Decent food, great atmosphere Cons: Waitress a bit slow more

service not great; food was average 10/2/2006

We came here on a Sat night because my girlfriend was dying to try the place. The vibe always looked nice and the menu seemed interesting. When we arrived, the place was not crowded. Nevertheless, we had to wait an hour for our entrees. In fact the server brought us dessert menus before we even received our food! The owner comped us dessert, so no hard feelings. As to the food - it was okay. But I have had better Israeli food for half the price. I guess you are paying for the 5th Avenue location. Also, be careful if you order the burekas. The filling was so hot, I actually burned my mouth (and have blisters on my lip as proof!!)\r \r All in all, despite the wait and blisters, it was okay. The owner was nice and seemed to be trying. And the decor/vide is nice (lighting is good). I wouldn't go out of my way though.\r Pros: ambience Cons: service, value more

Horrible service, good food 8/21/2006

We go out to eat all the time and I've never been inspired to write a review, but I absolutely had to write this - especially given the glowing reviews mentioned here. We were So disappointed with this place! Service can make or break a meal and our experience last night was horrible. \r \r The food itself was quite tasty and generous. The menu had lots of interesting choices so it was tough to decide. My first impression was that we'd just have to come back a few more times to taste everything we wanted, but after being ignored pretty much from the start (in a not very busy restaurant) we're not so sure we'd want to deal with the aggravation. We finished our wine and have to look around for our waitress to get another (she was busy chatting with the bartender); had to then wait quite a while before having the wine actually delivered. We finished our meals and watched our waitress repeatedly pass our table without taking the dirty plates away. I can understand if she was busy, but she literally passed by, looked over, saw our plates, looked around her station at her other tables, poured a glass of wine for someone and walked by us AGAIN to stand by the bar. Even when we asked for the check, the waitress dropped the check and STILL left the dishes! Get a clue! I'd love to go back for the food, but it's so not worth the aggravation. This place would be GREAT if it only had an experienced, attentive wait staff. Pros: Good food/Generous portions Cons: Wait service - boy did we ever! more
