Just Do It 5/20/2011

I love this place! 8/4/2010

I've been going to Minato for 20+ years and they never disappoint. The sushi is fresh and creative. I'll drive clear across town for it! Try some off the menu sushi like the Seven Star (fabulous!) or the scallop salad. I bring all the sushi fans here that I know and they love it, too. more

good food 5/27/2009

Great food! have yet to try the sushi and sashimi (i'm preggers, need to stay away from raw fish) but great salmon teriaki and chicken katsu (they call it chicken cutlet). Only disappointment is no iced green tea. :-( Pros: friendly waiters Cons: no green iced tea more

Here is a gem! 4/18/2009

The service was great and so is the food. My iced tea never went empty and the food was there very soon after I ordered. I ordered the Minato Sushi plate which came with a nicely dressed small salad and Miso soup. The Sushi was terrific, everything was amazingly fresh and well done. As far as finding it goes, this is my first time visiting this area and I really had no problem finding it. Less tip, the meal came to just over $20, which is far less than I'm used to paying for a similar size portion of equal quality in San Francisco. My waiter did say that on a busier night when they are packed the service is slower. Pros: Excellent Sushi Cons: Could be easy to drive past. more

Definitely worth the wait. 2/15/2009

Best. Sushi. Ever. It is worth the wait. I go there at least every other Saturday. I was there a few weeks ago and saw a couple that had never been there and was irritated about the 15 minute wait. Their loss. Pros: Great food, nice people. I love them. Cons: Hidden parking lot. Sometimes takes a while to get food. more

Crowded with no service 1/11/2009

After reading several positive reviews, we went into Minato last night (a Saturday). It's off a small parking lot at the back of a strip mall. Once inside, we saw the restaurant was crowded, which we considered a good thing. After a few minutes, we were seated in a booth as the sushi bar was completely full. We sat down and immediately noticed that we weren't given a wine list (their drinks aren't on the food menu). We then looked thru the sushi options and decided which rolls to try. And then we sat...and sat....and sat. Fifteen minutes later, we still hadn't had a single server come by--and we weren't even able to flag one down. So we got up and walked towards the door. Right before I exited, a waitress stopped me to briefly apologize, but she never offered to take care of us if we sat back down. We just left and went elsewhere. I was surprised by the bad experience, especially given other reviews of the good customer service. We just didn't find it there. more

Simply the best 9/7/2008

The staff has an uncanny way of remembering people - if you come with any frequency, you'll feel like family in no time. You get the feeling that you are at the Cheers bar - where everybody knows your name! Fresh is an understatement and the chefs - Kevin and Ming - will not hesistate to make you something special when they are not slammed. I must say I feel like I am cheating on Kevin when I have sushi anyplace else and none has been better since I started coming here. No pretense - simply wonderful food and excellent service - it is simply the best I have ever had! Great spot for lunch too. Pros: service, food more

Best sushi ever 5/21/2008

I have been going to Minato for about 8 months. Went one time at the recommendation of a friend, and now I never go anywhere else. Once you find the place and taste the freshness, coupled with the hospitality of the staff (Kevin, Ming, Pat), it feels like home. It's a cheers bar with sushi, always loaded with friends you know. Try the ""cowboy hat"", a house specialty. more

Best Sushi in town 4/29/2008

I've been eating at Minato weekly (and sometimes daily!) for several years. Kevin and Ming are very attentive and make sure you have everything you need. Pat and Phillip always are efficient and so wonderful to talk to. I feel like family when I'm there. I've since taken everyone I know to Minato, and everyone ends up hooked! Try the crab salad roll, but beware--it's addictive! Kevin's albocore special is awesome as well! Pros: Everything is great! more

This place rocks... 11/26/2006

My girlfriend and I love to eat Japanese food. We might stick to basic things, but we love it nonetheless. We've ate at restaurants in Chicago, Indianapolis, Charlotte, St louis, Nashville, and now Atlanta. Minatos was by far the best of all of them. The staff was very friendly and attentive and we liked the overall feeling of the place. But the food, oh boy. The ginger salad dressing was great and the misso soup was top notch. The lady had some veggie rolls while I had some ebi. Very good stuff. Then we had a tempura appetizer which was so insanely good. For are main meals she had vegggie curry and I had yaki udon. Both were excellent and plentiful. This might be a hard place to find but it is well worth it. Prices were fair as well. It is well worth trying out. Pros: Great staff, excellent food Cons: Hard to find more

Timeless. Best sushi and secluded atmosphere. 8/8/2006

This place is great for sushi. They're located secretly behind a shopping mall which makes it one of the best kept secrets in Atlanta. You either know of Minato's or you don't. I've eaten sushi all over the Atlanta area and Minato's ranks best in my books still after 15 years. more

Secret little sushi hideaway 7/25/2005

Fantastic sushi. Not cutting edge stuff, but it's very well priced. Service is very good and makes you feel at home. This place is a little hard to find but once you found it you'll come back again and again. Pros: Fair price, Good sushi, Friendly more

Great Service Good Food 8/27/2004

My wife and I have been eating sushi for quite sometime now, being new to Atlanta and based the the previous reviews we tried this place. Keep in mind we've eaten sushi in Hong Kong, San Fran, NY and many other places. The construction of the sushi was medicore, if I can bite a salmon sushi in half and it doesn't fall to pieces I like that. The eal was made different than any other place; the've used a differen't sweet sauce or something. All in all not too bad, but certainly not the best in town. The staff was very attentive and your tea is always full. The courses were brought out at weird times, for example the salad came, then a appetizer, then some sushi and finally our miso salad. Pros: Great Staff, Cup is always full, tastes good more

A Taste of the Orient 7/19/2004

Futo Maki, a.k.a. Big Roll, is the standard by which I rate all Japanese Restaurants. The Futo Maki at this restaurant rates a perfect ten!!! Pros: Ambiance, Quality personel more

Ichiban! 2/18/2004

Smyrna's best kept secret! Phillip, Kevin and the gang provide excellent service of their delicious food and have kept me coming week after week for about 5 years now. Pros: food, service, staff more

An long time favorite ! 8/14/2003

I've been eating sushi here for 10 years. There isn't a better sushi value in the city. Kevin is the head sushi chef and has been there as long as I've been going. You can't beat the quality or selection. Its hard to find but its worth the effort. Pros: Consistency, Consistency, Consistency Cons: None on my list more
