Joining Early American Life Magazine's Most Distinguished List of Traditional Craftspeople in 2011!

Owner Message
  • Mill Street Folkart Gallery focuses on Wisconsin artists who specialize in the textile arts. These techniques include wool applique, needle punch, free form crochet, quilting and painted canvas sculptures. The folk artists at Mill Street Folkart are self taught in their respective fields and have been practicing their craft for decades. Their work reflects the technique and detail that comes from years of experience. Folk art broadly defined is a very personal interpretation of the artist's vision and culture. It can include the primitive, useful artifacts, handcrafted artwork, outsider art and even the recycled art of eco-dumpster divers. Mill Street Folkart focuses on traditional American hand crafts, which include not only the textile arts described above, but also doll making, stenciling, and cabinet making. Our artists balance both the traditional and non-traditional aspects of the field hoping to inspire those who have not been exposed to these crafts to learn and create for themselves. We invite you to come visit our gallery where old techniques get a new twist.. Painted Canvas Designs was created in 1987 by Jeanne and Joanne Kreuser. Their work has been nationally recognized by 'Early American Life Magazine' as one of the top American folk artists in the United States. (Chosen again for 2011!) Ann Powell is a self-taught quilter. She specializes in decorative pieces such as table runners, baby quilts and Christmas tree skirts. Dianne Kreuser is a self-taught artist, who after experimenting with many fabric techniques, prefers working with wool. Mary Janik of Uneek Tekneeks has been creating original purses and jewelry for decades. She is noted for use and re-use fibers and found objects. Her work incorporates free-form crochet, quilting techniques and hand beading. Up-cycling has become an essential part of her art.
