This used to be a great place for seafood; Over the past few years the quality of the food and the service have fallen significantly. On the last visit (this afternoon), I’m not sure whether it was the fish or the oil, but something was moderately rancid. The waiter (when he appeared at all, which was pretty rare) was unconcerned and totally useless. At this point, one is better served going a few miles down Dixie Highway to the Golden Coral. The fish is actually better there, there’s much more selection and the prices are much more reasonable. Mike Linnig’s was great in its time, but that time is, unfortunately, passed. RIP, and have the good sense to close the place before you actually poison someone with whatever rancid ingredients you are using. more

Overpriced Long John Silvers, charged for refills, something I have never seen at a reputable restaurant. Not a terrible place, just know before you go that it is not a good seafood restaurant just a lot of grease. more

Dirty, overpriced, and terrible food. 5/22/2012

Dirty, overpriced, and terrible food. My local hosts had heard about the place were excited about taking me during my recent visit . Unfortunately, we were all very disappointed. The boiled shrimp appetizer was OK, but it went down hill from there. The large combo platter was an assortment of cold french fries, several unidentifiable pieces of fish, two paper plates for the 3 of us, a couple of servings of warm cocktail sauce, a dozen forks, 25 packets of ketchup, and napkins. A request for tartar sauce produced warm little tubs with something tasting like rancid mayo. 90% of our order went right into the overflowing trash can. The beer was cold and made us wish we gone to a bar-b-q joint. more

Hasn't been any good in so many years, I've given up 8/22/2011

When I was a little girl this was a wonderful reliable place to go. My grandparents were friends of the original owners, and back then our whole family went at least once or twice a month during the open season. Now, what a waste, the prices were outrageous, the atmosphere is like they forgot what a broom is for, and the food is cold fried products, which basically folks, cold fried fish sucks. So does this restaurant. Seems like some things DON't get better with time. more

Stay Away at all costs 8/11/2011

I went to Mike Linnigs for the first and last time this week. I ordered the shrimp and I recieved 11 tough, rubbery shrimp. The hushpuppies were overcooked and tasted awful aside from the fact that they came in a styrofoam bowl dripping in cooking oil (so much so that the bowl was full of oil and I soaked 5 napkins trying to dry out the first one enough that I could taste it). Then after paying $1.74 for a small cup of soda I am told refills are $1.00 each. The food was awful and the prices were very high, Red Lobster has much better food and lower prices. Stay away from Mike Linnigs at all costs. more

Bad experience 8/10/2011

I ordered the shrimp , potatoe, hushpuppies, and a Dr Pepper and the bill was $21 and when I received my food it was awful. The shrimp was tough and the hushpuppies were the worst I have ever had. Besides tasting awful they came in a dish that litterally had 1/4 inch of cooking oil in the bottom of it. After paying $1.74 for my soda I was told refills were $1.00 each (this is the only restaurant I have been to in 15 years that charges for refills). It was the worst seafood I have had in a long time and the prices were not good (had the food been good the price might have been acceptable) more

Love The Place and Food 9/14/2010

It is the best seafoof in the world always has been an always will be sure they raised their prices but who didn;t still very competive for the kind and amount of food you get ifin you want long john silvers then you need to go there cheap is all you get there and refills no big deal some places charge for lemon if you order only water matter of fact i live 65 miles from there we were there week ago sunday an going back tomorrow for another round .All and all i dont think you can beat it for seafood ; more

Awful Food, Rude Staff, High Prices 9/16/2009

Where do I begin? They charge for refills, and double for the second refill. They itemized six cups of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce on my bill that I did not ask for at $0.20 each. The turtle soup ($5.50) was served in a styrofoam cup and tasted like rotten, underseasoned tomato paste.\r \r I ordered the largest platter of fried seafood they had ($22.00). Some of it was cold, and some was very overcooked and dry in the center.\r \r My party of 13 was rushed through dinner and pushed out of the restaurant at closing time. When we thanked five members of the staff, they just stared at us rudely and did not verbally respond.\r \r We sat down at the outside patio tables and they turned on the security alarm to drive us off the property instead of coming out and telling us that we needed to leave. I will NEVER go there again and hope they go out of business!! more

Mike Linnig's is Horrible Experience 9/14/2009

First and last time I have been here. Unbelievably poor experience. Reservation accepted for over 13 people. arrived to a table where floors were being cleaned all around us. Tables being moved out. Closing time one hr from our arrival, not what web site said, or were we informed. Out of food items. Ran off our server before we finished eating. Forcing to be rung up early. Very inflexible. We all sat outside trying to chat after they closed and the alarm was set off, I am sure to make us leave, since no one responded to the alarm. This was a family get together with a terminally ill brother. I cannot tell you how awful this experience was. Only our family made it joyful. Not sure what anyone working that night was thinking. Not about service. more

Loved It! 5/11/2009

Just checked Mike's Place out yesterday. They were having a Music Festival. Place was packed. Great atmosphere. The outdoor area is really nice. Since they were so busy, we did have to wait over an hour for our food. But the fish was fantastic and were the onion rings. Definitely go again. more

Overpriced and Arrogant Management 5/2/2009

I traveled out to Mike Linning's for the first time in 2-3 years yesterday. When I arrived, the place had not changed at all. It was a nice day, so my party of 8 decided to sit under the large trees next to the restaurant. I opened the menu and my mouth dropped at the prices. After looking at other reviews with prices from just a few years ago, their prices have increased DRAMATICALLY!! A fish sandwich by itself is now $7.95. I ordered the fish plate and waited for my name to be called. I went to the outside bar and ordered a soft drink. The man at the bar was not very friendly and you DO NOT GET FREE REFILLS on soft drinks. This is a huge disservice to patrons when you already paying for overpriced salty fish. My name was called and I went to pick up my fish, which was not even hot. I asked for some tartar sauce, and you guessed it, they charge for extra sauce. Overall, my meal could have been better, especially for the price. My main reason for writing this review has to do with anot more

Not That Good - Overhyped 9/13/2008

The "world famous onion rings" were practically flavorless. I don't think they even seasoned the batter. I've had much better catfish in other places, the catfish at Mike's was slimy and swampy. I was very disappointed after hearing so many great things about the place. The outdoor atmosphere that everyone seems to love just didn't do it for me. It was like eating in a gravel parking lot full of flies and bees with children running rampant everywhere. more

not what it used to be 6/10/2007

This restaurant used to be the best seafood restaurant this side of the Peco's. The greed of the family run business has depleted its atmosphere and character in my opinion. A perfect example is they raise their prices twice a year, no matter what. The food quality is not near as good as it used to be and no free drink refills just proves my point. Pros: atmosphere, kid friendly Cons: no refills on drinks, long lines especially on Friday more

Best Fish Sandwich 9/15/2006

Mike Linnigs has the best fish sandwich I have ever had...at least in Kentucky. Their portions are huge, I can never eat it all. Prices aren't bad either. Plus, the people working there are very nice. The atmosphere is really almost like a street fair...it's hard to explain. Bottom line...the food is great. You won't be disappointed. Pros: Great food and atmosphere Cons: No refills on soft drinks or tea. more

It does not get any better than this. The Best Fish and Onion Rings in the World. Who needs a Boat. 7/11/2006

I started eating at Mike Linnig's at the young age of five. Now at Fifty Five, Pros: Walking in the front door. Cons: Getting full. more

You won't be disappointed! 6/19/2006

You always get great seas food at Mike Linings and a generous portion. Although, recently the prices have increased, Mike Linings over all is still an affordable restaurant. A fish sandwich runs you around six dollars but I have yet to be able to finish my sandwich. The only negative is that Mike Linings is only open seasonal. Although, I am not exactly sure when they open and close ? I do know they are open all summer long. Be sure if you are wanting to dine in during the spring or fall (closed for winter) to give them a call first. PROS: Generous portion CONS: Seasonal more

Gone Fishin for the best fish in town? This is it! 11/29/2005

If you are from Louisville, then you know this is the greatest place on earth to get fish! The crowds in the summer are also great and people travel many miles to eat here. The tartar sauce is the best and the portions are amazing! more

Try the frog legs! 10/15/2005

You can't beat Mike Linnigs, it is the best fish place in town. They also have the best fried oysters you'll ever have. They are always packed but that's just because the food is so good. Inside dinning or go outside during the summer for a picnic. I have been going there for 40 years and I have always enjoyed my meal. This is one place that everyone needs to try. You will love it. PROS: It doesn't get any better!!!! CONS: more
