Highly overrated! 9/26/2009

The food is o.k., nothing spectacular. The staff is not friendly, no one asks during the entire meal if you need anything or if everything is o.k. Place is too noisy, the larger tables are too wide. Our waiter completely forgot to serve the coffee we ordered until desert was finished! No apology, just a blank reaction. I would not go there again, for your money Marmalade is cheaper and has consistently good food and innovative dishes. What's more the service is great!!! Cons: Poor service! more

Good Italian Food 2/15/2009

Decided to try Mi Piace (despite all the up and down reviews) because I live down the street and I was pleasantly surprised. Besides the friendly staff the food was for the most part really good. The Penne Arrabita was delicious and I have gone back twice since again to get it to go. My friend ordered the seafood Paella which was truly unbelievable. My only complaint was that the salad dressing was a little bland for my taste, but my companion really liked it, to each their own! I absolutely recommend for a nice Italian dinner. Pros: Food, Service more

Portions are soooooo tiny 7/26/2008

Their food is OK, but their portions are soooooo tiny!!!!!!\r \r Do not expect to be full.\r \r Their food is overpriced for what it is. Their full size portions\r are less than halfsize portions at cheesecake or malmalade.\r \r I would not go there again Pros: Food is OK Cons: Portions are soooooo tiny!!!!!! more

Mi Piace 6/2/2008

I do not recommend this restaurant. \r \r I thought this place would have good food, because I used to go to the one in Burbank before it closed, which had a good chef. I ordered the Penne Arriabata, which was TERRIBLE. On the menu, it said it had pepper flakes. Fine. No problem. But when the dish came out, there was so much red pepper in the sauce, that was all I could taste. I'm Italian, and do not have a problem with pepper, but I like to taste different levels of flavors, and there should be a pleasant balance of tastes, which good cooking has, not just one - PEPPER! I sent it back because it was inedible. The waiter seemed understanding and brought out the same dish as I requested with less red pepper.\r \r Everyone at my table was given a free refill of coke and iced tea, I was charged for my refill of lemonade ($3.79 a glass) because I sent back the awful food. more

Very nice Italian restaurant. 2/11/2008

Despite my bad stomach after the fish I got last time (I think it was just a glitch, but I wouldn't hold it against them - it happens), I really like this place, haha. They have a lot of great items, good specials, and physically, the restaurant is very pretty. Since it's in the Commons, it's lovely in the summertime to sit outside. I always order fish here and aside from that one time, have never been let down. Definitely give it a try. If you don't like it, Marmalade Cafe is right next door. :) more

Poor food and service 11/6/2007

I would not recommend this restaurant. We've gone a few times and the food is always poor and the waiters are always in a rush like they're doing you a favor by bringing you food. The utensils were dirty. The food is expensive for the quality. We will not be returning to this restaurant as there are several others to try. Pros: None I can think of. Cons: Food, Service, Cleanliness more

Great Food, Great Service, Great Location! 9/29/2006

I've had nothing but great experiences at Mi Piace at The Commons in Calabasas. Besides the delicious dishes they offer (the veal milanese is to die for!) they also have tasty martinis (go for ""the stockholm"") and an extensive wine list. The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant, although it gets noisy on weekends. The one time our food took a little longer than usual, our waitress was very apologetic and brought us complimentary desserts! On that note, the service is usually very prompt and attentive. Also, the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and can offer great suggestions! Good size portions, reasonable prices, and large menu selection are all a plus! Highly reccomended. Pros: Great location, Great food, knowledgable and friendly servers. Cons: Noisy and crowded on weekends. more

Bland......expensive..... 8/29/2006

Been here 3 times. First time just had a mini pizza and salad, it was okay. Brought family here for dinner - wasn't so good, but not terrible. Went again a couple of weeks ago (live in the area) to give it another try and it was terrible. Ordered the specials, two salads, and an appetizer. Everything was tasteless and the bill was around $100. Won't be back. Service was good though. Pros: Good service, fun sitting outside at the Commons Cons: Food is really bad more

""Mi piace""...mi piace!!! 12/20/2005

Buonissimo!!! I'm Italian, born and raised and I can tell this food is good...of course I read the bad reviews of people that probably think that Italian food is all about lasagna and Alfredo sauce (this last one is not even Italian) but this is great northern Italian cuisine..Try the gnocchi and ravioli and ask for ""al dente"" pasta. Pros: food, parking more

Great Place 6/26/2003

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend of mine who really likes it. After eating here I know why. The food is great, the service is excellent, and the prices are more than reasonable. The Commons area is a great setting for it, as there are nice walkways with streams and fountains to walk through to get to the movies. Very romantic. If you eat here and have some room for dessert, you have to try the chocolate souflé. Its the best in LA! Pros: Good Location, Good Parking, Inexpensive more

Mi Pain 8/12/2002

Tried this place as it was suggested by some friends. After having dinner here I am not sure why the place was recommended as the food was, at best, marginal. The service was below par. Soup cold, flat and tasteless. Entree a little better, but not by much. The area at the Commons is very nica, and I feel there are a number of decent restaurants nearby - for Italian I'd certainly suggest Gaetano's just up the street a block or so over ""Mi Pain"" anytime. Pros: Area Cons: Poor Food, Poor Service more
