I read 1 review that said people were snooty. Are we going to the same place??? Everyone is super nice and it is a great facility. Massages are super Maybe if the person who feels they are snooty would look up and smile he/she might feel differently. Joy is the manager She knows how to manage She is great with everyone You should stop and talk to her. She would be most gracious more

Not as good as they think it is 6/24/2013

I was a member at Metter for about 7 years and followed their monthly policy to the letter. When they increased the price to an outrageous level, I complained. Their response was that 'people were abusing the policy' and when I said I hadn't, management pretty much dared me to leave, which I did. When I went there initially, Refinery and the new Y did not yet exist. In short, there are much better high-end places in town now, and many no-frills places. I now belong to a cheap place, and while I do miss some things about Mettler, I don't miss feeling taken advantage of. Some pieces of equipment were there the entire 7 years I was a member. At the no-frills place, new equipment appears regularly. I also found high turnover in the floor staff at Mettler, and they definitely had 'favorite' members (meaning you could wait for them to finish their conversations when you needed help). I'd look around before going to Mettler. There are better places out there. more

Outrageous cost 6/12/2013

Great physical therapy but watch out for their billing department. They charged me $740 for 13 appointments because of a screw up in my insurance paper work. They were totally unhelpful and unsympathetic about it; the fact that I'll have to take out a loan to pay that large a bill mattered to no one. They make you sign something the first day, before they ever run your insurance or tell you what they charge, that says you agree to pay whatever they charge you no matter what, and they don't ask for the copay at the end of your appointment like every other doctor, instead saying they'll bill you later. Seemed shady but I was desperate to see a physical therapist to cure my headaches. Lesson learned. Didn't get the first bill until more than half my appointments were over and by the time I finally figured out what had happened (no help from them) I had already stopped going. I feel like I got scammed. Oh and the stress headaches are back, go figure. more

Courteous staff 1/26/2012

Mettler Center is the most expensive gym in town. So you can imagine what kind of people prefer to go to Mettler Center. The snoody and stuck up members of Chambana's high society. Not all, but some are simply rude. The staff is very friendly, the girls at the front desk are always there to help and i can only imagine the grief that they take from some of the members. They used to have a great Yoga program until they recently moved the yoga classes into a large cold studio. What used to be the Yoga room is now some sort of sports training area. They have a full time maintenance guy who is there during business hours, so the building is maintained very well. They also have a dietitian who is a joy to meet with, she's serious about her work and offers very good nutrition information. Mettler offers massage therapy as well as physical therapy and personal training. I would recommend their massages! Overall, if you don't mind the high society folks and money is not a concern, this would be a great gym for you! If you don't like paying high prices or putting up with snoody people that think they are gods gift, then you should go elsewhere! more

I like Mettler 2/7/2011

I've been a member of Mettler for about 5 years. They have really added alot of classes in last couple of years and find really good instructors! They have a great staff who seems to like working there and treat the members with respect. The manager is always roaming around asking members how they are doing and really listens if you have a question or concern. While no gym is perfect, Mettler does meet most of my needs for my work-outs. more

Nice gym 1/6/2011

Good: Every one is really friendly - usually call me by name and remember things about me. I like their group classes (the Zumba class is fun) and other activities they do like cooking classes and fitness workshops. It's also really clean and the gym area is open and bright.. Improvements: Maybe update some of their elipticals.. Other: I really like the homey feel of Mettler and recommend it to others often.. more

Comfortable atmosphere 8/19/2009

Mettler Center is a great gym for those new to fitness and/or want a comfortable, clean and friendly place to work out. They have 3 group fitness studios and lots of classes to chose from (I counted over 70 a week). The Tot Spot has a great staff and kids love it. Their RD, Melissa Smith, has worked miracles with many friends who needed to lose weight. I like that you don't have to wait for machines and all the staff knows my name. more

Fun Fitness Club 7/27/2005

The Mettler Center has two locations in Champaign. The Mettler Center at Crossing Court is an average sized gym. There are lots of elliptical machines, treadmills, and stationary bikes. Also in that room are the weight machines. There is an aerobics room, where you can take classes for an additional fee. Also there is a kitchen and classroom where they offer health food classes. I liked this gym a lot, but I found them to be pricey. Especially if you want to take classes, you have to pay extra. The machines are all nice. Most of the time, you don't have to wait for a machine. During the peak hours you may have to wait for a few minutes. They don't have a big selection of classes either. For an arm & a leg, you can have a personal pilates lesson too. LOL You also get a few sessions with a trainer when you join, which is nice. However, not all of their trainers are certified. more
