Metrosport Athletic Club

I have been a member off and on since 1989. In contrast to a previous review, I have found the staff to always be friendly and helpful, although not always available as they are often trying to be two places at once. The club has a very large outdoor pool with tables and lounge chairs, which is covered and heated in winter, separate wet areas for men and women (each including sauna, steam room, and whirl pool), well maintained fitness equipment and free weights, racket ball courts and well taught yoga, pilates, tai chi and aerobic (step, water, etc.) classes that are included in your membership. Personal trainers cost extra. Unlike many health clubs there is no "hard sell" and few gimmicks. As early as 1989 the manager was open to allowing gay couples to have a couple membership which you still can't get at the YMCA. more

The club has swimming pool which was the major attraction when I made my decision to join. However, the staff at the front desk, except for one extraordinarily kind lady, is not the type of people one would want to interact more than once a year! The owner of the club doesn't seem to be willing to take any action to improve the situation. Too bad because they have some great trainers one could enjoy working with and benefit a lot from if only it could be possible to feel the inspiration to go there frequently enough. I have decided to cancel my membership after 4 months of hesitation. I don't recommend this club to people who would want to see a kind greeting or no greeting instead of self-appointed "high-school teachers" adding to your daily stress at a time you seek some relaxation!
