Excellent Seafood in the middle of the country 5/20/2009

I've dined at McCormick & Schmicks in six US cities and they consistently provide exceptionally well prepared seafood meals. Service reflects an effective training progtram in every respect from advice to not being obsequious. I find no evidence of the negative comments provided in several of your reviews. I suspect ""fiddling."" Pros: Exceptionally well prepared and presented seafood more

Go to a cheaper dive bar instead 4/16/2009

My first and only experience here was horrible. My boyfriend and I went for the tax day special that was advertised as entrees for $10.40 a piece. We thought it would be a great deal at a restaurant that he's liked for years.\r \r He's sober now, and the deal was only available in the bar area. So, we waited for a table to open rather than sit right in front of the alchohol display. This seemed to upset management, even though no other patrons were waiting for tables while we were. It wasn't like we were taking up a large portion of space.\r \r Anyway, once we were seated in a booth, it took close to a billion years for one of the several waitstaff to even approach our table. We looked at a menu that seemed to be recently printed and listed tax day entrees and had no mention of a required minimum drink expenditure. While the happy hour menu was also on our table, it was past happy hour time when we actually got around to ordering.\r \r I selected the catfish, but was told that it was being replaced with tuna. Breaded tuna sounded disgusting to me; so, I went for the beer battered cod and chips instead, while my boyfriend ordered the crabcake sandwich. Yes, I know fish and chips is greasy, but this was gross and the fries were sitting in pools of oil getting soggy. It probably didn't help that it took our food 40 minutes to get to us after ordering.\r \r I wouldn't say that the ""entrees"" were any better than a dive bar's food offerings. I didn't taste the crabcake, but my boyfriend, who has a better palate than I do, admitted to tasting little seafood in the entire thing.\r \r Then we were thoroughly disappointed with our bill which ended up being over $30 for the two tax day specials and the ""HH drinks,"" which for us were $7 diet Cokes.\r \r After tip, spending $35 on two below-average meals with sodas is not my idea of tax relief or even a mildly amusing evening. I will not be back, and I have already rethough my idea of taking my family there when they visit. Pros: Tiffany-style chandeliers Cons: slow service, rude waitstaff, greasy food, all @ high price! more

Oysters and so much more 11/27/2007

This restaurant has something for everyone. My family loves the fantastic selection of seafood. I love that the selection of oysters come from both coasts and, like all of the seafood at this restaurant, are flown in daily. Everyday there is a new menu so you can choose something different at every visit. My husband loves the steak and pasta dishes. Since I work in the Denver Tech Center I sometimes stop by after work and enjoy the very inexpensive happy hour food. All in all, considering Denver is right in the middle of the country, this is a very fine fresh seafood restaurant. Pros: valet parking, great happy hour, love the service Cons: not very close to where I live more

Worth every penny. Great for couples and families!! Excellent Service!!!! 8/12/2007

From the moment we drove up we felt like royalty with free valet service. We were greeted like family and escorted to our table. We had a yummy calamari for appetizer that was brought to our table super quick. The food was fresh and delicious. There were alot of couples having a romantic dinner. My 5 year old spilt water all over the table and I swear they cleaned it up in 60 seconds flat with good humor I might add! They have crayons and coloring page with great childrens menu. PERFECT! My son loved the shrimp. I recomend the salmon stuffed with crab and cheese. Can't remember the name but it was awesome. The best salmon I ever tried. Raw oysters were great too. I recommend this place to everyone looking for fresh seafood and more. The also have steaks and pasta if your not into seafood. Pros: Great atmosphere- Childrens menu- Great food!! Cons: $$$ more

Extreme Disappointment for the Price 7/5/2007

I made reservations for Father's Day for my husband and his 3 teenage stepchildren. Most of the tables were full, but because we had a reservation, we got right in (thanks opentable website!) I had been to the McCormick & Schmicks in KC and had great service and food, but this one wasn't the same. It's a nice place, but somehow has a chain feel that the other high-end steak places I've been to in Denver don't. I ordered the halibut with mango salsa because I've been really loving mango lately. It came nicely plated, but no mangos to be seen. When my husband told the server -- I didn't want to complain because it already took 5-10 minutes for the server to come back to our table between water, drinks, appetizer, etc -- the server was unconcerned and eventually brought me a tiny ramekin of mango salsa. Additionally, water and our other beverage glasses at empty for long periods of time. The worst part was when my stepson ordered a hot fudge sundae and he brought it WITHOUT hot fudge. Yippee! Again, he brought the tiny ramekin of lukewarm fudge. For the steep price of $240 for 6 people, I'll never return to this McCormick & Schmicks. I was embarrassed for having made this choice for such a great father! Pros: Okay food, nice location in DTC Cons: Very Poor, Slow Service more

High hopes banished... 5/21/2007

We had high hopes but were not impressed. My halibut ""monterrey style"" was baked, and came out watery with barely any crab meat topping, my husband's scallop dinner had a whopping 3 whole scallops... poor fellow left hungry. And although we reserved a week in advance, our ""cozy"" table we requested got us an aisle table next to a noisy waiter station with constant traffic. We won't be returning. Pros: Seafood corn chowder was good Cons: Read review more

Great Service & Food 4/25/2007

It was a great dinner food and service were very good wonderful atmosphere I asked my future wife to marry me and she said ""YES"" We had a wonderful evening and plan on returning soon Pros: Ambience Cons: Can't think of any more

Good oyster and great server. 4/14/2007

First of all, I would like to talk about the seating. We called for a reservation at around 6:45pm for a 7:30 reservation. They suggested 8pm so we took that instead. We arrived at the restaurant at around 7:45 and the seating hostess said our table won't be ready til 8pm. We sat at the bar and had a drink. By 8:10pm we still were told that there was no table ready for us. My husband told them that if the table isn't ready by 8:20pm, we have to go because we got to be somewhere at 10pm. We were finally called to a table at 8:17. The oysters are pretty good. I didn't like the menu all that much. There really was too much seasoning for my halibut. The best part of this meal has to be our wonderful server, Tiffany. She was so attentive, friendly, and got our orders to us as fast as they could managed. She really is one of the best servers I have met. Pros: Good server, valet parking, oysters Cons: Too crowded, too many entrees involve coconut or curry more

Great Place for Business or Casual 1/31/2007

I have been there on several occasions. You can request a booth for a business meeting or a special day. The staff is very knowledgeable on their seafood, especially the oysters. Their seafood is flown in fresh every day and they have a great happy hour. Very enjoyable. Pros: Great Seafood / Ambience Cons: There is a wait at peak times. more

Outstanding Seafood in Denver if You Can Put Up with the Service 1/1/2007

One might think that Denver and fresh seafood in the same sentence would be an oxymoron. However Mc Cormack's in the DTC is excellent. We have eaten there 5 times (and once at Mc Cormack's in LoDo) and the seafood is exceptionally fresh, excellently prepared, and very attractively presented. The price is well worth the quality of the food received - but not the service. On 4 occasions at the DTC store we left feeling the wait staff was condescending and abrupt (somewhat like the service one might expect to receive in a Manhattan restaurant), each time causing us not to return for several months. However on a recent visit last week, our experience of the service finally met the experience of the food. Tiffany, our wait person, was a 10 on the 10-scale in every respect. She was attentive, made several excellent recommendations, attentively took care of a food allergy problem that one of our party had and, to our surprise, offered a children's menu (on a visit a month previous for a birthday party, we had been gruffly advised by a waiter that, ""there was no children's menu"") and we paid $17 for a dish the youngster barely touched (vs. $4 this time). The staff at this establishment needs an attitude adjustment - I pay THEIR salaries - not the reverse. We'll likely go back because of Tiffany (and hopefully a few others like her) and the outstanding quality of the seafood. Pros: Freshest seafood in Denver Cons: Condescending wait staff more

Great food and drinks! 11/24/2006

We've been in MCcormick & Schmicks restaurants on the westcoast before, and after we moved here, we tried the one downtown, and I must say I was extremely dissapointed. But we recently try the one at the DTC and it was amaizing! They had great seafood selection, really fresh and delicious... and the orange martini, just wonderful. Pros: Great food and drinks more

Great Service 8/7/2005

Attended a birthday party & the service & staff were EXCELLENT. The menu selection was well priced with a wide variety for all. The seafood was GREAT & FRESH - couldn't believe I could get coastal fresh fish in DENVER. Made me feel like I was back home!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED more

Great Happy Hour 5/28/2005

We went for Happy Hour on a Sunday and had a great time. 1.95 menu fed us well, some items like the Calamri are 4.95, still a steal. Best Clalmeri and oysters in Denver! Fun place to meet friends in the southern burbs. Pros: Service, Happy Hour Menu, Oyster Selection more
