Great deal in downtown Phoenix 8/12/2010

We stayed at the Hyatt in downtown and stumbled upon this restaurant across the street. This restaurant was a great deal! The margarita pitcher was a great value and was perfect for my wife and me. Everything we tried tasted great and was not expensive compared to the other restaurants in the area. I loved the chicken Picado, and my wife loved the red tamale dish. The website doesn't hide the fact that the restaurant is owned by Greeks and there are Greek items on the menu, but to us it seemed authentic and tasted great and was worth it. We had breakfast there the next morning and the breakfast was great, too. Much better than the hotel breakfast buffet. more

really tasty 7/28/2010

Six of us stopped in here for lunch earlier this week. Our service was actually quite good, They had quite the variety on their menu, Greek, burgers...even grilled cheese! My friends told me they'd disown me if I ordered grilled cheese at a Mexican restaurant, so I got the chicken fajita salad. This salad was so big they had to carry it out on it's own platter. The chicken was cooked perfectly and all the veggies were fresh. The other folks at my table ordered some of the $6 specials of the day (tacos and burritos) and those looked really tasty as well. more

the food was excellent, The service was great, The price was great 4/19/2010

After being to this restaurant for the first time in my life, I tought, Wow! I need to come back. I mean it, the food was excellent (My favorite one was the albondigas). The service was great, They were very attentive and friendly. The price was great, I had a good dinner and paid a modest price. Oh man, let's not talk about the ambiance. There was music, people dancing, laughing, and having fun. As I said before, my experience was great, I would not think twice before coming back to this place. I would really recommend this place to anybody that likes to enjoy good Mexican food, great music and wants to have a lot of fun with out having to spend that much money. more

happy customer 3/19/2010

the bf and finally decided to brave the LR to go downtown...well to get out of the house. i tried recommending some places i liked along the rail to hit up for lunch, but he was set on trying something new for our "journey of personal discovery" as we had began referring to our LR adventure. got off at jefferson/washington and central/first ave since there's plenty of lunch spots. right away i honed in on thai elephant, a place i wanted to try out, but since we were in that off between lunch and happy hour time downtown, it was closed for another hour. continued to meander til we found matador. $9 enchiladas isn't normally my take on mexican food, but the $10 pitcher of margaritas sold us. for quite possibly the first time in my life, i was not in the mood for mexican food. i can't explain. fortunately this place has alternatives, but more than like the usual one burger on every mexican menu (i always wondered who goes to a mexican restaurant and orders a burger - damn, i was gonna be one of those people? i wasn't sure how i felt about this) but they also had like french dips, and tuna sandwiches and gyros?!?! i guess since it's downtown they're going for a "catch-all" crowd of lunchers. i braved the gyro - a risky move, but i banked on "homemade cucumber dressing" that came with it. shocking - it was delicious. the pita was toasty golden, with plenty of thinly sliced, bacon shaped pieces of gyro, along with onion, tomato, pickle (weird) and fries. the food came out literally two minutes after we ordered, so it was HOT and good. the BF got the colorado burrito. anyway, he ate the whole damn plate of enormous burrito and said it was good,... that was seriously a delicious gyro sandwich. more
