Be Careful Where You Step 1/12/2016

It started with my call on Friday. I called and spoke with Kevin. I told him that I needed to have a a/c compressor replaced and wanted to see if I could get a quote for a 2008 Ford Explorer 4.0L. Kevin told me that there are so many variants that he could not give me a accurate quote over the phone and I would have to come in and they would inspect it free of charge. My wife and I arrived at 3:30pm (1.5 hours later). They did NOT do an inspection and quoted $1062 for the a/c compressor and a serpentine belt replacement (based on my wife's explanation of the WRITTEN estimate received from GAYNORS - $1044 for a/c compressor and serpentine belt). I asked for a written estimate and Kevin told me their system cannot print out an estimate but that was the cost after taxes and after he reduced the price $100. No Estimate?? This is a little questionable. But I dismissed it and continued to ask if it was a kit and if the accumulator was being replaced.. Kevin said that it just shows th more

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/16/2015

WARNING: Worst, Dishonest and a car Sabotaging business!! First off the reason you do not see any recent bad reviews is because they tell people to remove bad posts in order to ‘fix’ the problems they create. I took my car in here a few months ago and they advise I had a bad fuel pump ($1200). They replaced it, and I ended up having my car towed out of their parking lot because they stated it was ‘other problems and I would not pay to have them fix it.’ – FYI they were going to charge me another $131 just to look at it because you know, they just did that so I should have to pay again. I made reviews about the business and they said if I took the posts off, they would help me with the problem. They apologized for how I was treated and paid to have my car towed back to the shop for repairs. They then admitted it was an issue with the new fuel pump I had them replace, and that they did not honestly do their inspection. Fast forward to today and my car almost blew up with me inside! Turns out their ‘fixes’ were actually sabotage. The fuel was leaking out of the fuel pump but my gas tank showed full because they tweaked it so I could never see how much fuel I was losing. After getting towed again, there were issues with how they installed the pump and was advised I was lucky to be alive – the car literally could have blown up!! Also, the mechanic advised that there were certain things that looked like it was sabotage because they were upset with fixing the problem. I am at a loss and cannot even describe how horrible this is and how much this has effected my life. Guess what MTA – I’m NEVER removing this post and hope it bring insight to others about your ‘services’ before they have to experience this for themselves. more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 12/26/2014

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!\r \r First accident - took my car here because they were the first to actually answer my phone call. Other shops I had to leave a voicemail - and I had things to do! \r The guy that worked with us, Kevin, was incredibly helpful and informative. I was VERY impressed with the customer service right off the bat. \r When we dropped the car off after an early morning collision *sad face* - I was ready to have to pay a cab to take me to work. INSTEAD, their company vehicle/ shuttle to drove me right down 4th Plain to work. \r Then later, called and reserved a vehicle at Enterprise for us for this weekend. Since it is the day after Christmas, Enterprise was really low on cars - if there wasn't a reservation, they wouldn't have had one for us. I was blown away at how we were taken care of. \r \r I will recommend this shop to anyone, every day of the week. more

Not Impressed 3/25/2014

I wasn't that impressed by MTA Automotive in Vancouver Mall area. I took my car in for a check engine light and whatever repairs would go along with fixing the light. First, I was very glad I printed out a couple coupons on their website before I showed up because just checking the engine light would've cost me $100. Which with the coupon I got for free with the repairs, but I have had the light checked before completely free of charge. Plus I think I can buy an cheap Automotive Diagnostic Scanner for about that price. \r I called them to set up an appointment and after I dropped off my car it took them about 4 hours just to call me to tell me what the issues were and an estimate. The day was basically over at that point. They tried to sell me on a battery cleaning for $35. You can easily do that yourself with a little baking soda, water and an old tooth brush for 10 minutes.\r I also asked them if they didn't mind checking my drivers side blinker because even after replacing the bulb a more

Awful for me, good for others apparently. 3/21/2014

Worst experience at a mechanic, ever. I walked in saying that all I needed was an oil change for my car. The gentleman (Todd, I believe) began speaking to me as if I were an idiot. He jumped to the conclusion that I must need oil because I had hit something, causing a crack/leak. Naturally, I couldn't be an early 20 something that just needed an oil change and was far from home. While I look and sound like I'm in my young twenties, Todd didn't know he was belittling a doctoral candidate with the diction to pummel his choice words into mush. \r \r They completed my routine oil change for double what the dealership charges me, told me it had to do with the difference in bulk oil costs. I have gotten the same procedure done at several other small establishments such as MTA for less than the dealership, even with the cost of high grade oil these days. I was given a lecture about how it wasn't a good decision to purchase such a vehicle (hybrid) because while they save me in gas the routine more

I trust MTA Automotive! 3/18/2014

Sandi R. \r 3/17/2014 \r MTA Automotive is tops in my book! The employees are very friendly and helpful. They never try to upsell you on other services that you don't need. Their prices were quite a bit lower than another shop that had coupons galore. I'm very happy with their work and customer service. more

Great Service! 3/10/2014

My Pathfinder (1999) has been a super car, with more than 160,000 miles driven since new. After it developed a strange noise we brought it into Mastertech in Vancouver, WA and spoke to Brian. A major repair was needed and we agreed to leave the car for the fix. A week later the car is back, the price quoted and paid was the same - no surprises. Everyone was fantastic, with a follow up call after having the car back for 3 days. It runs like new and we will be bringing our other vehicle in for service. They are winners! more

A+ 3/6/2014

I was very impressed with MTA!! They were friendly and helpful! I am new to town and had went to another shop for some work...then a friend said go talk to these guys and im glad I did...not only did they get my car in right away (knowing my safety concerns) they even beat the price of the other shop...to top it off they had my car ready an hour ahead of schedule. ..I think I found a new friend in town!! I will be back and passing out business cards!!!!! more

Good Company, Good Work 11/22/2013

My permanent address is in OK but I make frequent trips to the Vancouver area and we always use MTA Automotive. At first it was simply because they were very handy to where I was staying near the Mall. Now it is my choice to go there. They are honest, fast and dependable and their prices are very good. I highly recommend MTA Automotive to everyone. more

Great Auto Shop - Honest and helpful. Kevin at MTA is always very helpful and friendly each time we need to bring in one of our cars for routine oil changes or when there is a problem with one of the cars. We could not be more pleased them. I never feel like they are trying to upsell me which has happened at past mechanics. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who wants quality, honest work without having to pay dealer prices. more

I brought our 2000 Ford Expedition in for an oil change. I called ahead and made an appointment. Kevin was very nice on the phone and in person. We had work done on our other vehicle done at a different shop and it was a nightmare! It was awesome to be treated nicely and not walk away feeling like I got ripped off!! more

We had just purchased a 1987 Toyota Camry with 68k miles and took it to Mastertech to have it tuned up and back to running status. They persevered through all the twists and turns of what the car through at them. They kept us in the loop and welcomed us to call them everyday to check in too! I'd never heard of a auto shop that encouraged the client to call them! It was a nice change. Thanks to the guys at Mastertech! We are super happy with our new addition to the automotive family. We will definitely bring Cam back should he need additional work. more

Best in Vancouver 3/27/2012

I just got a new job at Intel in Hillsboro and lived in Vancouver, it is a very long drive and full of traffic. After a month of doing the drive my car finally started showing its frustration. On my way to work on an idle Monday the temperature gage starts going up and I pull over to find steam bellowing from under the hood. Luckily I carry coolant with me at all times and was able to fill it up and get back on the road. This happened again before I got to work, and then twice on the drive home. Needless to say on the drive home I was on the phone with auto mechanics in the Vancouver area to take my car to first thing in the morning. I chose the first mechanic on the google search and learned very quickly why they had the advertising money to be the first result and have a big flashy sign outside their establishment. After dropping my car off a few hours later they let me know that my water pump was bad and would need replaced along with the timing belt. That was going to cost more

Needless to say on the drive home I was on the phone with auto mechanics in the Vancouver area to take my car to first thing in the morning. \r \r I chose the first mechanic on the google search and learned very quickly why they had the advertising money to be the first result and have a big flashy sign outside their establishment. After dropping my car off a few hours later they let me know that my water pump was bad and would need replaced along with the timing belt. That was going to cost me $1100 to get fixed, and if they ran into another common issue while doing this the price could go up to $1900.\r \r Keeping in mind I just started a new job meant 1. I had no money, 2. I needed my car to get to work and 3. I could not afford to take time off work to get it fixed, financially or respectively. I was in quite the pickle. I asked the mechanic if we could do it without the timing belt and he let me know that it would be around $700 to go that route but strongly advised not to because they would have to take the timing belt off regardless and putting that strain on an already old belt that could break very soon after repair. That means that if he has to take it off regardless he is going to charge me an extra $400 to put on a new one that would incur no extra labor on a $60 part. I had to let the mechanic know that I would not be able to get anything fixed and that I would be there to pick up my car later that afternoon with no work done.\r \r I called MTA automotive located close by on a recommendation from my roommate. Kevin at MTA let me know that they could have me in and out in under a day and for less than $600 Almost half of what Ronâ??s Automotive was going to charge for the same exact thing. I asked about the timing belt being left off and he let me know that would only save me $60 on parts as the belt would not incur any labor costs. It was still outside my budget but Kevin let me work out a payment plan to split between my next two paychecks which worked perfect.\r \r I got my car from Ronâ??s Automotive and took it to Kevin at MTA (stopping to put coolant in along the way). Very soon after dropping it off at MTA Kevin called to let me know they found a leak in a hose. He fixed that and found that the car did not need the water pump replaced. Total cost parts, labor and tax under 300. I was able to pay same day and was at work on time that day. Thanks to Kevin and the great mechanics at MTA I was able to get my car fixed, within my budget, keep my job and re-instill a little of my faith in humanity. Also Kevin was nice enough to call the guys at Ronâ??s and let them know what they missed so they could keep a better eye out next time. I will be recommending MTA to all my friends and family. They made a very complicated situation in my life much more pleasant. more
