Maryhill Museum 7/11/2006

The history is palpable even as you walk to the entrance. The grounds of Maryhill are situated on the Lewis and Clark Trail overlooking the Columbria River Gorge. I have been to Maryhill on several memorable occasions and have some great stories that I love to tell my kids (my birthday, enscribing promises on the Stone Henge replica, the bees...oh god, the bees...>.<). Maryhill is one of only a handful of fully accredited museums. The admission price isn't bad ($7/adult, $6/senior, children 6-16 $2) but the drive is a long one. One of the things I like about Maryhill is how unexpected it is out in the toolieberries. It is a complete departure from the open spaces and fruit fields but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb by any means. I could write an entire article about the amazing collections housed within Maryhill (my favorites are the gorgeous dresses of Queen Marie of Romania and the incredible Rodin collection) but it is just easier to post a link to the Maryhill website :) www.maryhillmuseum.org Be sure to visit the little gift shop while you are there for fun momentos for the kids (or yourself:). Enjoy this historical gem! more

There's a museum specializing in Rodin there 8/20/2005

This place is cool! It's out in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a treeless, windswept bluff overlooking the Columbia River. Sam Hill built the mansion in the early 1900's hoping his family would live there with him. His wife took one look and said "No Way" So over the years, it was turned into a fascinating and eccentric museum. It features among many others, an extensive collection of works by Rodin, a full-size replica of Stonehenge, and the first paved road in the Pacific Northwest. If you're in the area, don't miss it. more

Beautiful Historic Museum 6/24/2005

Maryhill Museum of Art has paintings, sculptures, native american artifacts and more. It was built by Sam Hill. It has a beautiful view of the Columbia river gorge and also has peacocks on the land surrounding it. It's a great place to go to view art and the beautiful area. more
