Very disappointed, I spent 8 hours and 1/2 for color and highlights, Supper expensive, No consideration with peoples time, and I wasn't too happy about my last results. First and last time I go there. more

Worst spa or salon experience I've ever had. Wanted to treat myself to an evening of pampering at a reasonable price but this was terrible. more

The #1 salon in mid city 2/16/2012

I have to say that i was a bit worried about moving into a new city and not knowing anyone that can recommend a good salon for me, but while doing my reasearch i found the perfect place...Mariposa Salon, the staff is great and they really make you feel at home with their hospitality. My hair always looks flawless and i have tried a few stylists there and i can say that they are all experienced professionals. I will always continue to visit this salon, even if i move miles away. more

Hands down AmAzInG! 12/9/2011

This salon blew me out of the water. First off- it is an edgy, hip, & sophisticated place. I was welcomed as I walked in the door and offered a beverage. Refreshing! My stylist Meghan was amazing. She see's your vision of what you want and offers insightful suggestions and goes to work. She is so warm, fun, and talented. I loved my hair cut- presentation in my world is everything. After a months of not cutting my hair after it was totally botched by some stylist it was great to have my expectations far exceeded. It was cut & styled impeccably. You can definitely tell when someone like meghan is in the line of work they are passionate about. She is super talented and I could tell that she absolutely enjoys every second of making people look beautiful! I love when I get nothing but compliments by strangers all over the city about how great my looks... Then comes my favorite question- ""Where did you get it done?"" Meghan at Mariposa! Meghan you are incredible. Thanks again and I will be seeing soon. :0) more

LOVE - THIS - PLACE!! 6/17/2011

It's been a few weeks, but I am still getting compliments on my hair - something that hasn't happened in years. Even my husband, one of those guys who normally doesn't notice those type of things, did a double-take and told me it really looked great. This was my first time at Mariposa, and I went on a weekday morning, so the salon was quiet. I immediately felt welcomed. Jessica is an absolute doll! No really, she looks just like a little doll, but what a BIG personality. She's so adorable and funny, but still professional and informative. She listened patiently, and with a completely straight face, as I went on and on (and on, and on...) about how much I missed my pre-Katrina stylist, how good she was, how hard it's been to find a decent stylist since then, yada, yada. I was SO embarassed when I realized what I was saying (I had what turned out to be a nasty head cold, so I was a little punchy), but Jessica took it all in stride, NOT personally. There aren't many stylists that I've met who would have been so cool about it. She blew it off and actually said it was helpful to her in terms of what I had in mind for my hair color. So young yet so wise! She worked hard to find a good color for me, and I enjoyed watching her work on it while she explained everything she was doing. \r And Man, did she nail it! She gave me the PERFECT color that I'd been searching for for so long. I've also been trying hard to get my hair to grow long again, so I really didn't want a whole lot cut off. Once again, Jessica was reassuring, and she managed to pull off a small miracle - my hair actually looked longer after the cut. As she said, I ""just needed to cut off those little pointy ends."" It felt and looked incredible when she was done. What an artist. She also made a recommendation for a shampoo to help keep my color as I was leaving the following week for 7 days in Cozumel, and I knew the sun would be brutal on it. She was never pushy or ""salesman-like,"" it was just a recommendation and she was absolutely right. The shampoo really helped and was worth every penny. I plan to return in a couple of weeks, and I'm really looking forward to it. more

Great salon, Good looking people! 11/4/2010

My experience at Mariposa was excellent! My stylist, Jessica, was awesome! She introduced herself to me, and we talked about what I wanted, and the troubles i was having with my hair. She made me feel so comfortable, and she was quite the character. I was in desperate need of a haircut and Jessica handled it for me. She did everything i asked for and she introduced me to the Awapuhi treatment. I HIGHLY recommend it, it definatly made a huge difference to my hair. I made my appointment to return for my next haircut with Jessica, she was so awesome, and absolutely beautiful, and Im very much looking forward to going back! more

Great hair done by great people! 8/25/2010

As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and offered something to drink. It was friday so i was SOOO relieved that there was white wine available. It was my first time there and did not know what to expect. I was taken on a tour of the salon and was surprised to know that this salon had manicures and pedicure services available. Immediatly after the tour Jessica introduced herself as my hair stylist and we began to chat about what I have been wanting to do with my hair. Jessica was so funny and even though she looked young, she was very confident while cutting my hair. I felt so good about my hair! it was lighter, it felt healthier, it had so much body! i loved my hair and so did my husband! Jessica even convinced me to go back for color in 2 weeks. So i am very excited and i am looking forward it! more

salon & spa> Lindsay Brown / Nehaya Yatak 5/2/2010

I've been a model for over 11 years, so having a great hair stylist & aesthetician is a job requirement. When i moved to New Orleans i found Mariposa through a Chloe Dao show, as they did the model hair backstage. History has proven to me that only the best in the biz are called upon for big fashion events-- which made my search quite simple. *Lindsay Brown: stylist & colorist is well versed & highly experienced in her craft. i adore her & she always finds a way to fit me in & send me off w/ a great 'do. I believe that it's her genuine love for what she does that makes her so great @ it. I claim her as 'my personal go to gal & whenever anything calls for a hair emergency or a quick treatment- she never fails. *In the spa, Nehaya Yatak does a mean facial! She really works her magic & is always a pleasure to visit. You won't leave disappointed. I highly recommend my new family which is the staff at Mariposa. xo Pros: great service, excellent creative team more

MY GETAWAY FROM HOME! 4/29/2010

Let me start off by saying, the first time I walked in Mariposa Salon, i was treated with the up most respect. The salon gives off a very calm , hip, edgy and soothing vibe.\r The owner Brenda seems like she embraces new and exciting business approaches while reflecting the latest in great looks and fashion all around New Orleans. I Have seen her in the Gambit before! Very sweet woman!\r I love the salon. The staff is professional, friendly and always helpful. Everyone at the salon provides a great environment. I love going there. I also love my hairstylist, Lindsay and my esthician, Nehaya..she’s great! (i think thats how you spell it).\r I know from painful experience with other hairstylists that my hair is not easy to cut. I went to Lindsay after another stylist at a different salon who massacred my hair. Lindsay was warm, understanding, and quickly gained my confidence with her straight forward honesty. She performed magic! Prices were also reasonable which is always a plus!!\r My eyebrows have always been uneven but I'll give the credit to Nehaya for making them look decent. She defiently makes me feel great every time I go there, I get them threaded and even though I want to cry and run out sometimes bc its painful,im always satisfied with the results. I have gotten them threaded 3 times now and I have to say that it is the best thing ever, . Nehaya has given me a facial also and she is OMG AWESOME, if you’ve never had a facial before, you should def try her out! I feel like she takes her time and really enjoys her job, now who wouldn’t just love someone like that?\r Overall the salon is great, I recommend it to anyone, it is a full-service salon. I would tell you to book your appointment for nails though, seems like I never see a nail tech on staff. Also, Brenda, Nehaya and Lindsay are the only ones I know in the salon because they are always there ? I know when I return i will see them. Thanks guys!\r Pros: I FEEL THE LOVE more

Great haircut, not so great vibe 3/4/2010

Ok. To start, I went to Mariposa about a year ago for a brazilian wax. I said then I'd never go back because it was the most painful wax I'd ever had and I bled more than I ever had. Then I went back recently for a haircut only because someone had given me giftcard. The haircut was great and I liked the woman who cut it. When she was shampooing my hair she was giving me tips on hair treatments, etc. and I was actually wanting to buy some new products. Then, after my appt. was finished, I went over to the products and it turns out the stylist knew absolutely nothing about their products (Paul Mitchell) because she asked the other girl to make some suggestions for me. And that was fine until the girl came over and gave me the exact same, word for word, memorized speech that my stylist had given me. That was annoying and kind of weird. Then what she reccomended was totally wrong for my hair. I have frizzy, wavy, colored, heat styled hair and she reccomended clarifying shampoo and conditioner. I ended up buying it because she was so in my face about it and then got another girl to come over and she didn't give the whole speech, only an excerpt. The woman who did my hair looked embarrassed and I just wanted to go home. Then it took them like 15 minutes to figure out my bill. The guy at the desk didn't seem to know how to use the software, but I'm patient, REALLY I AM. Well, then he looks at my giftcard (and my boyfriend was with me, oh so patiently waiting) and the guy at the desk says ""this is not your giftcard."" First of all, since when did you need identification for a giftcard? It was my giftcard and it was given to me by someone other than my boyfriend. So, with my boyfriend standing by, I had explain details of the card so he would accept it. After this whole experience I ended up with a crappy shampoo that has weakened my hair into pieces and after two weeks it was in the trash and I now have a hatred for Paul Mitchell products. Pros: Parking, Price Cons: Too pushy with product sales more

Great place, but Kat is gone... 12/21/2009

I know you seriously won't believe it, but I have been with Kat since her Chicago days! She has known my hair for 7 years! I was saddened when I moved to New Orleans to teach elementary, and then I found out she was here, too! Thank God for Facebook - it's how we stayed in touch! I like to joke that she moved here for me!\r \r She just texted me to let me know she is moving on from Mariposa. She is traveling and teaching color alot, and getting into her own gig. She taught in Chicago, too, so I'm not surprised. She asked me to spread the word. \r \r I also went to Mariposa twice. Everyone there was super friendly, I got greeted at the door, they had brownies up front and even offered me a mimosa! Kat told me it was a good place to work, so I don't think there is any bad blood. Really, though, I'll follow Kat Hanson anywhere she goes! I just can't believe we're in the same town again! I am so relieved, and I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve!\r Pros: friendly staff, clean, parking Cons: ....no more Kat more

Good energy, great hair 9/20/2009

Just had my first haircut at Mariposa with Kat, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Even on a Saturday morning, the salon was bustling, but everyone was friendly, with offers of snacks and drinks (hey, any place that offers a morning mimosa with a haircut gets points in my book). Kat was great -- she really tries to find a look and style that suits the individual, not just a cookie-cutter trendy cut. She's fun to talk to, and makes the time go by quickly. Overall, highly recommended! Pros: Lively atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent haircut Cons: A bit far from downtown... more

Fab Hair 3/15/2009

I just moved to NOLA and was nervous about trying a new salon but after Brenda worked her magic on my long thick hair I knew I had found the perfect salon. All the stylists do a variety of hair types. The spa services make it even more convenient, got a mani while I was under the dryer.\r Pros: Excellent personal service more
