We had a family function there and I have to say, we were let down. The waitress was crass and I personally had food removed while I was still eating. And my sister's unfinish...

Out Of This World 5/31/2006

Moved down from Manhattan, never in a million years did my wife and I expect to find such a hidden treasure in North Carolina. Each time we go, the menu impresses more than the previous time. Fresh, creative, local ingredients combined to make world class presentations. The service is on par with our favorite NY spots. Friendly, detailed each and every time my family goes. We have tried all of the hot spots in the Triad, none of them can hold a candle to this best kept secret in North Raleigh. Why anyone would fight the downtown crowd or the police cars on the drive back is beyond me. If you haven't tried this gem, you are in store for a true treat. Highly Recommended!!!!! Finally, we have found a home away from home. Pros: Creative, Excellent Service, Best In The Triangle more

wasn't as great as I had expected 5/21/2006

Recently went to Marqaux's after looking for some place new to go for our anniversary. Based on the reviews I had read I figured we had hit upon a sure thing. The atmosphere here is very nice but it was too open to be what I consider ""romantic"". It was an adult atmosphere, however. We ordered an appetizer and two different entrees. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that impressive, and for their prices... I was expecting to have a really new taste experience, something I would just have to got back for. It was just OK, nice plate presentation, but just OK flavor. Our favorite thing to eat was the bread, if that gives you an idea. I only write this b/c I had so heavily relied on other's reviews and was very exctied about going here. Pros: adult atmosphere, nice presentation Cons: food was OK, tables too close more

Felt Like A Rock Star 5/11/2006

I have been taking my company out for dinner for 12 years for rewards and holiday functions. Happened to fall onto this restaurants private dining facility called the Bordeaux Room. The Greatest experience I have ever had in my entire adult life. We felt like movie stars from the minute we walked in. This chocolate colored room is something out of an old English Tudor Castle. My executives had every detail tended to with the most polished and detailed service we have ever experienced. The cuisine was a beautiful fusion of French meets New World Asian. Everybody left feeling like they had been treated to a night at the Oscar's. We will be using Margaux's Bordeaux Room for each of our large company functions from this point forward because they deliver on all levels of perfection. The ambience, cuisine and 5 Star Service are something you must experience for yourself. Pros: Service, Service, Service more

Best Seafood, Atmosphere Raleigh NC 3/26/2006

Dined at Margaux's last Friday. Seafood is flawlessly prepared. Margaux's is a true gem and is partially responsible for the overpopulation of creative and quality restaurants surfacing up around the Raleigh, NC area. My date indulged into the fresh salmon while I savored every last piece of my yellowfin tuna, cooked medium rare and perfectly! Ambience set my date and I up for an evening that matched our initial vision of perfection. Electic and artsy, Margaux's unique decorations & atmosphere, along with their 5 star cuisine make this restaurant a must on your tour of the raleigh restaurant scene. Pros: creative cuisine, atmosphere, prompt staff Cons: location more

Another Great Experience 2/16/2006

I have been going to Margaux's for several years now and it has been terrific every time and has never let me down. I've had everything from the Steak to the Sushi and have always been impressed with everything from the food to the service. Great place to bring clients, a date or a special family gathering. With all the new restaurants popping up, I continue to go back to Margaux's. Pros: Great Food, Friendly Service, Nice Atmosphere more

dressed to impress 1/8/2006

This is a nice, upscale, relaxed establishment. The waitstaff is generally knowlagble. On my visit, much of the food on the table was very good to excellent. A few items were dissappointing. The staff acts like they are doing a better job than they are. For what you pay, this is a reasonable value as long as you end up with food you enjoy. This is where the staff could be better prepared. Learning the exact wording of the daily specials is not helpful. I don't mind the waiter having a nicely prepared cheat sheet rather tan memorization, if they actually know what they are talking about. A TIP: order something safe, and ask how it is prepared -- if you get what you wanted expected, they will not dissappoint. Pros: quiet, roomy, food Cons: attitude, unpredictable more

Impressive 1/4/2006

I've been eating at Margaux's for at least ten years. I love the food, decor and eclectic menu. It isn't inexpensive- but for the price, it can't be touched in Raleigh. The wine list is impressive (I wish for more French wines) and reasonably priced. The service is good- if there's a problem, the owner or manager hovers at the entrance. The only potential downside is that it is located in a brick strip. If you're trying to show off for a business dinner, it might not be the right place- but if you want to show someone (a date?) the best dining in town, you've found it. The menu changes often- every time I go in, I'm torn between trying something new and one of my favorites (get the Filet Mignon). Ask about how Margaux's was named- it's a great story (that used to be on the old menus). Pros: Variety, Food more

Most Unique Dining Experience in North Raleigh 12/20/2005

WHat can you say about Margaux's that already isn't known? Well, a north Raleigh landmark basically for innovation in cuisine, let alone one of the funkiest and coolest atmospheres I've experience - competing with Restaurants I've visited in NYC. The food is superb 99.5% of the time, hence the few negative remarks you may read below. No questions asked, hands down one of the best choices you have for dining experience in the triangle. if you don't believe me, try for yourself and come back and rate me. I promise you 9 out of 10 times you'll leave with a new appreciation for the finer things in life! Pros: busy event schedule, wide variety of cuis., very hip atmosphere more

Anniversary diappointment 11/15/2005

My husband and I chose Margaux's after hearign rave reviews from colleagues and reading the city search website. We could not have been more disappointed. The restaurant was not prepared for us at our early reservation time in spite of fellow diners arriving at a similiar time. The service was slow and seemed to possess limited knowledge of the menu. The food was certainly over priced for the caliber of presentation and quality. After dining in French restaurants all over the world, I was sorely dispapointed by this establishment's attempt at this fare. more

This is a great place... 10/6/2005

I went for a romantic dinner one night and this place was nothing but perfect. The food was incredible, and they are not skimpy on the prtions. This instantly became my favorite upscale place to eat. Pros: Food, Service more

Fantastic dining experience...Margaux's! 8/7/2005

My family comes down from the historic district of the Hudson Valley in NY, home of the Vanderbilt's and Roosevelt's, where access to upscale restaurants is plentiful given the proximity to NYC. Each time they travel to North Carolina throughout each year, one of their special requests is to fine dine at Marguax's restaurant. The food is fresh and incredible, service is responsive yet not overbearing and the atmosphere is artful. Everyone in the restaurant seems to be having a fantastic evening! My husband and I and our families who live in North Carolina choose this restaurant above all to celebrate special moments. We highly recommend to all!! Pros: Ambience, Staff, Food Cons: Closed on Sunday's more

The one thing we miss about Raleigh! 7/25/2005

We've relocated from Raleigh to Chicago, but we still miss Margaux's great food, super ambience, and excellent wine list. We had dozens of meals there, without a misstep. We'd recommend this place to anyone disappointed in the lack of great places to eat in the Triangle. Pros: Great sauces, Wine list, Waitstaff Cons: Gets Crowded, Some wine prices more

the way dinning was intended to be 3/7/2005

The look and feel of a downtown place with the convenience of a North Raleigh location. This place is beautiful, the ambience is unlike any other and the food is incredible. Me and my wife sat by the fire and enjoyed a wonderful dinning experience. It is a bit pricy but well worth it for an occasion or a splurge. The server was excellent, fast, but not annoying....she left us alone but was there with what we needed when we needed it. There are some interesting dishes, some of which I would never eat, but I was able to find something I would, and I DID, enjoying every bite. Pros: service, food, ambience Cons: weird dishes, pricey more

Art Deco fused with Great Food 12/9/2004

Don't mind the 10lb wine list. It just amplifies the atmoshpere. The food is quite remarkable. From the sushi to the stroganoff. The food pairings are exquisite. The staff is as helpful as they an be with a full house (which is the only way I've ever seen it). The appetizers are filling and the entrees are quite hefty portions. All in all it's one of my favorite ""off-the-beaten-path"" restaurants. I've been back a few times and will continue to return. Pros: Food, Parking, Atmosphere more

Must Go - Excellent 12/2/2004

They have some interesting categories about where to go, best places to eat and so on. This is helpful on City Search. But to me a great restaurant experience in the Triangle can't happen without Margaux's. Is it a medievel castle, a quiet French Restaurant, a convergence of creativity and culture. I don't know. I do know that it's just a must amongst my friends. Just look at the exquisite, detailed and ample menu - totally creative and totally great. I also love restaurants where the owner and staff seem to be one team with only your total satisfaction in mind. The bottom line - you have to experience Margaux's to experience the best of Raleigh eats. Margaux's would be the star of any trendy area like Glenwood South but find it and go. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Wonderful in every way 5/13/2004

My husband and I ate here a few weekends ago. After moving here from Connecticut 2 years ago, we have been systematically sampling the triangle restaurants. We love Margaux's. Everything was absolutely perfect - the food, the ambiance, the service. One of the best restaurants in the triangle! more

geat food 2/23/2004

margaux's has great food and on fridays there is a band. Upscale food and very nice staff. I usually eat there every other week and some time every week. They change there menu alot so you can eat there and never eat the same thing if you don't want to. they also have kid's stuff. Make sure you have a reservation and if you don't want loud music don't go on a friday night after 10:30. Pros: good food, good service Cons: , loud music (fri) more

Recommend! 2/9/2004

Margaux's is a hip little gem tucked into a North Raleigh strip mall! When we walked in, we felt as though we were in a saucy Soho restaurant! The original art & decor is a feast for the eyes! The varied selection of entrees was well rounded. And most importantly, the cuisine was superb. We brought our 3 children with us twice and they enjoyed it as well. However if your kids aren't interested in anything other than burgers, it can be quite pricey bringing them along! Pros: hip -but not stuffy, cullinary excellence Cons: , none! more

Leisurely dinner 6/1/2003

Another reviewer complained about the wait. Well, this is NOT the place to go when you want FAST food. This is the place for a slow, relaxing evening of high quality food and top-notch service. A bit pricey but recommended if you want to pamper yourself. BTW: the free pre-dinner cornbread is not to be believed! I hate cornbread but this stuff was like cake. It was amazing, as was all the other items my party tried. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Food more

Great Find 4/15/2003

My husband and I were thrilled to find such a place in the Raleigh area. After walking through the doors, one quickly forgets the surburban strip mall location. The cabernet we ordered was out of this world and affordable. The yellowfin tuna was cooked perfectly and the lamb was delicious. The service both at our table and later at the bar met even my picky high expectations. My only advice is not to order the caesar salad. The dressing unlike the traditional caesar I enjoy had a very fatty, clumpy, mayo like consistency. I would have enjoyed it even more if they had waited just a bit longer to serve our main course...it was a bit on the speedy side for an upscale restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, wine list, wonderful food Cons: Caesar salad, too fast more
