Main Street's Market & Cafe

We went for breakfast on Monday morning 10/12 it was delicious! The setting is comfy they serve breakfast all day I looked at other patrons selections (some were lunch) plates had nice presentation the Orange Juice was freshly squeezed (or so it seemed) and enjoyed the breakfast potatoes, the menu is on a chalkboard. Table service was friendly (even though they were slammed) counter service I can't recall if they looked up and gave us eye contact but they got us in and out! Can get crowded but we were seated in a window seat and lots of families came in with kids... I think because it was Columbus Day. Overall if you are in the area this place is definitely worth the time. We have been to Main Street's mostly during dinner and have always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It can be a bit of a challenge finding a table after the live entertainment has started, but the staff is always very accommodating and tries to find a spot. Sitting at the bar and catching part of a Red Sox game while eating is a nice alternative. The menu selection is adequate, and the food is always good. I always try to save room for dessert - they have a wonderful selection in their cooler display case, plus other items listed on a dessert menu. Good enough for a stop and snack. Service is lacking, quality is lacking, menu is all on the wall - difficult to read, you wait in line like fast food and then sit at a table - that you hope has been cleaned - I'd pack up and sit in the park. We visited the cafe on 4/22/08. From start to finish, the staff was unpleasant bordering on rude, greeting us with a brusque ""next"" -- no hi, no how are you, no smile. They took our order of two sandwiches, then made us wait for ten minutes while they made one sandwich. Only then did they tell us they were ""out"" of the other sandwich, so we had to re-order and wait again. \r \r (We did wonder how a cafe can run out of sandwiches at 11:30 am -- I guess they don't make all of them fresh.)\r \r The meal was supposed to come with a cookie, which they neglected to include. When we pointed this out, they did not apologize. They did at least give us a cookie, though not the kind we'd asked for. \r \r On the positive side, the two cheese/tomato paninis we ended up with were very good. I wouldn't give htem my money again, though. more
