27 years as an ER nurse had led me to believe that there were only 3 possibilities when it came to back pain, meds, surgery or living with it. After living with recurrent back pain for 15+ years, there came a point when the meds no longer worked, I had seen very few good outcomes from surgery, and I could no longer just "live with it" My sister had been a devoted cheerleader of her chiropractor for years. I had always dismissed her advise as that of someone who didn't know any better. But now, back pain was ruling my life. I was unable to work, take care of my children or my home. At 46, I walked like an old woman...bent over, with shuffling steps, because it was too painful to stand upright and pick up my feet. I spent my days in tears, from the pain, and the depression that had set in.
