Recommended day care 11/17/2009

My two daughters have been going to Little Mates for the past 6 years. My oldest is now in kindergarten but had a wonderful experience at Little Mates. She is advanced in her kindergarten class and a lot of this could be attributed to Little Mates. My youngest is 3 and already nows her shapes, colors, alphabet, and numbers! Little Mates has always been very receptive to my questions and comments and are always willing to listen. I strongly recommend them for anybody looking for a daycare in Morgantown! They provide the right amount of teaching and learning while also letting the kids be kids! Pros: friendly, nurturing environment, very receptive, staff more

LOVE this place 11/13/2009

We have been taking both of children here for over a year. Our youngest has learned so much and loves every minute of her time that she spends there. She has just turned 3 and knows every staff members' name and is comfortable with all of them. The enrichment that she is given is truly outstanding. I am a teahcer myself and feel as though that Little Mates is more than a corporate environment but rather gives you that ""at peace"" feeling like you are leaving your children with a loved one. Our oldest daughter who attends REC is able to catch the bus to travel to and from school safely and enjoys the bigger kids program very much. If you have a potential need for child care and are considering other options in the area, please consider taking a tour. Everyone has their own personal expectations for their children and this meets all of ours. Pros: rates, accessability, caring, Cons: my daughter never wants to leave! more

Wonderful Experience 11/13/2009

My child has been attending Little Mates for over a year and a half and we having a wonderful experience! The teachers are warm and caring and they take great pride in their educational program. They are the only center in the area that offers STAR 4 in the Keystone STARS Program, provides lunch, extra activities, and the most reasonable rates. Trust me when I say I checked them ALL out! It is really a shame that your tour of this center prompted you to write a negative review by just judging at a glance. The “dirty” wood chips that you are referring to are provided for safety while the children use the playground; I didn’t know that they made “clean” woodchips.??? My daughter LOVES the play equipment; you can tell it is a professionally made play set. There are 3 rooms that share a common area, but there are dividers separating the classrooms. There are also 4 other rooms fully enclosed. In response to your comments…do you visit restaurants without eating there and rate them on their food? I feel bad for you that you misjudged this center. Your child has lost out on a wonderful early childhood experience! Pros: STAR 4, caring staff, good rates, flexible, lunch more

Not for my child 9/28/2009

The Director's tour was very brief and it came off as take it or leave it attitude. The play ground areas have dirty wood chips and play equipment appeared to buy at K-Mart. Not a warm and friendly place for a child, and the over all building was just one big open room, with no real individual classrooms, sort of a strange setup for a day care center. Not for my child. Karen Pros: You can tell it's low quality from the curb Cons: Dirty inside and out, and not a warm & friendly place more

Warm & fuzzy 2/11/2008

I have had my children at the center since it opened. I get a ""warm & fuzzy"" feeling with the staff because they treat my children (& me) as a part of the family. I feel grateful to have a center that cares about my children as much as I do. It is the next best thing to me being there. I am glad the center is able to teach my children under the guise of fun. Our children grow up to fast and my children can be nurtured here. I have looked at other centers for comparison and find many seem cold, corporate and pushing higher learning (German at 5 years old?). \r \r In response to other review: The director is responsible for staffing from 6am to 6pm so she may not be available after 4pm on a Friday. I believe they thought you would want to look at the center even if you are put on a waiting list, so I think that is where the confusion lies. I have not yet found a daycare center that did not have a waiting list for at least a couple age groups, and it they did not, I would think that is a red flag. more

Not much on communication 8/15/2006

I called on a Monday to make an appt to tour the daycare and was told there ""might be a waiting list"". I set the tour up for Friday afternoon (they don't do tours after 4:30, so good luck trying to work around your work schedule). I asked them to please call me if the Director did decide to waitlist me, as I really needed to have the daycare situation resolved in the next few weeks for my son. I gave them three different numbers to contact me at (home, cell, work), should they need to.\r \r On Friday, I took time off without pay from work, drove like a madwoman through rush hour traffic to get there, and was told after I got in the door that there was a waiting list. I immediately asked why I wasn't called and told that, and the girl shrugged her shoulders and said the Director had ""just reviewed the list today."" \r \r If I knew on Monday that I had a parent coming in for a tour on Friday and might have to waitlist their child, I'd certainly review my list long before the day of their tour. And I'd make sure they were called. Not much on communication, are they?\r \r You can bet that even if a spot opens up, I'm most likely not going to take the opening. I prefer a center that follows up and shows some attention and courtesy to their clients. If this is how they treat a parent, what kind of care will my son get? more
