As Al See's It 6/12/2009

I've been doing business with Al for over ten years and have come to undersrand his way of business. He will tell you what he thinks whether you want to know or not,but he has never cheated anyone that I know of and anytime he has done work on my bike ,I've always been satisfied. If you can't handle his demeanor and are too sensitive than you should go somewere else.He always does what I ask ,even if he dosn't agree as long as I listen to his opinion . He is the PRO. Pros: He can do most anything with a motorcycle Cons: He is very opinionated more

Go Anywhere Else 5/18/2009

I took my bike here in '06. He sure is a character, and a story I'll tell for a long time. But I would never, ever go back. His garage is a mess. There is no rhyme or reason for why any pile of parts is in any particular place at any given time. As others mentioned, he will berate you for having the wrong bike. You think this is a joke until he never cracks a smile about it. He has a serious temper - but will usually save it for tools and bike parts. It took him 3 times longer to fix the bike than he anticipated. I went to pick the bike up when it was finally done and he had lost my mirrors. I dug through his garage with him for about 15 minutes before he shouted ""**** IT! THESE ONES WILL FIT!"" and he grabbed some random beat-up mirrors from a pile and slammed them onto my bike. He said he'd keep an eye out for mine and let me know. I called every other day for about two weeks before giving up. I guess he DID repair the bike, although he didn't do the repairs he said he would do. Run Away. Pros: He has tools to fix motorcycles Cons: He is completely insane more

Who made this guy the expert? 5/1/2008

Wow! I thought it was me but after reading some of the other experiences, I know that I'm not alone. I had ordered some tires on sale w/ free shipping from one of the bigger motorcycle catalogs and was looking for someone to mount them. First was the 10 minutes speal about how his tires are the best and how I don't know sh#* about tires. Then we got into my Cobra pipes and man did he rip on me! Talked and talked about how dual exhaust will destroy your engine and tried to convince me that V-twins ""need"" a two into one exhaust. One conversation is all it took. It's my bike and the mechanic needs to do what I'm paying for him to do, with no bs!!! I never met the man but first impression is a lasting impression. Go sell crazy somewhere else............ I'd avoid this guy. more

Colorful but a good worker 3/3/2008

I would take my bike to Al again. Yes, Al is a character, so I don't blame folks for being put off by his demeanor. And yes, he feels the only good bikes are Kawasakis. But he was not really rude to me. He did my first oil change on my Yamaha and I'm glad he did. It was a hard work, and I'm glad I did not have to do it. I don't recall what he charged, so it could not have been that much. He did good work, and I believe his strong personality would prevent him from doing poor or half hearted work. :). more

The Reverse Prank Call 2/25/2008

Let's say that as an American consumer, you feel that you, as the customer, are always right, then let's say that you are more realistic, and believe that you are at least ""informed"". Well, let's just say that Little Al, owner, proprietor, and established offender, will remind you that you don't know anything about anything and that his knowledge is greater than any deity you may worship. \r I called Little Al to request a price, expecting to compare it to what I had on my monitor. Before I could get any information, I had to bring the bike in, happily pay for a list of services I could do easily on my own, and then of course, be expected to pay whatever outrageous price he wanted, since, of course, the bike would already be disassembled and all. If you enjoy being harangued about your associations, mental disability, and, ironically, your stature, go see Al. He is conveniently available only when he feels like it, and if you're lucky, you'll only pay twice the actual value of whatever he says you need to have on the motorcycle that only an idiot would even ride... Pros: Self-glorification in evolutionary superiority Cons: none; ""Only an idiot would stay after one minute"" more

Rude.... 9/7/2007

Just one short phone call to this place it's all it took to figure out I don't want to spend a penny there. Al was extremely rude over the phone, don't even bother. Cons: Customer Service more

Would not consider with my motorcycle 7/23/2007

I called ""Little Al"" to get some information on motorcycle repair earlier today. After a short, and I do mean short call, I will NOT ever bring my bike to this shop. Adding to what the other reviewer said about Little Al, he was very rude over the phone; I asked him about motorcycle repair and perhaps getting more involved and his response was verbally abusive with me. I was asking basic questions about motorcycle repair and what not and he started talking about ""God of Vanity"" and was ridiculing my profession (human resources).\r Based on the fact how he spoke to me, I would NEVER do business with him. There are other motorcycle mechanic shops out there who focus on service as one of their maint caveats. Cons: Little Al more

Prepare to be judged an idiot by whatever bike you own 5/13/2007

Everyone should go to Little Al's just for the experience - albeit a bad one but a ""real"" one to be sure. According to Little Al (that's really his name and for obvious reasons - they become more obvious as your conversation may continue with him). Little Al doesn't own or ride a bike anymore because they are all ""#%&*"". If you're feeling any kind of pride about the bike you own he'll be sure to shoot you down within minutes of meeting you as your brains are tied to the bike you own - according to Little Al - and it seems apparent after a few minutes of conversation that all bike owners have ""$%&* for brains"".\r \r Are there no honest and reasonable bike mechanic shops in Chicago? $25 for a pair of used - that's right, used - mirrors - I later saw them for $19 on the web. $100 for chain - later saw that on the web for $35. Ok, I got taken by Little Al. I guess I wasn't all that clear by how much until I asked how much he'd want for a simple - I can't emphasize ""simple"" enough - tuneup - $225!! I haven't owned a bike for a long time and that seemed quite exorbitant to me. But Little Al explained he would want to spend some time with my bike and get to know it. It was kind of like a dating service the way he made it sound. Well, I left there happy to have parted with my money just to get away from him. I guess it should have been a flag up when there were no other customers, when the only bike in the shop was a Harley up on a jack ripped apart while Little Al spent the better part of 10 minutes ripping to pieces Harley's and their owners. (Thank god I went in with a Suzuki.) I'm happy to have a new chain and some mirrors but beside the monetary price I paid Little Al extracts a lot from customers in other ways. It really is sheer torture to have to listen to him pontificate and then dismiss in its entirety everything you may have to say about your own vehicle. Go see Little Al just for fun but don't let him touch your bike - you'll be sorry. Pros: Some good pizza nearby Cons: Little Al more
