I signed a lease beginning Aug 1 2010 & paid the deposit as well as Aug's rent in advance. I informed the then mgr it was imperative I move in on the scheduled day bc of work & parenting obligations. A week prior to moving in, I called incessantly to ensure an apartment would be ready for me & each time I was told to call back. On the morning of Aug 1, move-in day, I called, again, to let management know I was on my way. Did I mention that I was moving from 2 hours away? At that time the mgr informed me that she would be in the office around 1pm & if I wanted to call back then, she would check to see if the apartment was available. She then suggested it might be more feasible for me to move in on Aug 7 or 8. I informed her that I was leaving at that time & would be arriving no later than 11am as it would not be more feasible for me wait a week before taking occupancy. When I arrived, the apartment was not clean. It was in complete disarray. I was made to pile my boxes where they would be least in the way so a cleaning lady could come in & so that the carpets could be cleaned. My lease stated that the apartment was to be painted prior to move in & when I mentioned the white patch job located in the hallway area, I was told the painters would be in that night as well. I left my belongings & drove the 2 hours back to where I had come from. When I arrived the following morning, the apartment had been cleaned, the carpets, so I was told, had been shampooed & the white patch work had been painted, but the overall apartment had been not. When I made a complaint about the apartment having not been painted, I was then told I was mistaken. Upon signing my lease, I had to agree to a non-refundable portion of my deposit as a ""paint fee"" for having the apartment painted & Ive no doubt that, had the apartment been painted, the apartment would have smelled of fresh paint & cobwebs would not have been located in corners. Cobwebs seem to be an issue in this location bc the porch area was also covered in them. I requested the porch area to be pressure washed. My request was denied & I was told keeping the porch, which is shared by 2 other apartments, was the resident's responsibility & if I could not reach the cobwebs, I should try to use a broom. Earlier this year, we acquired new management. I was, at first, excited about the new management & also happy to learn she had a son around the same age as mine. My son is soon to be 9. During one visit to the community center, her son even took mine for a ride on one of the golf carts, unattended, as she sat on her personal porch smoking & talking on the telephone. On another visit to the community center, I let my son in the pool & stepped outside the pool gates to make a phone call. The pool was busy & hearing was difficult with all the noise; however, I did have my son in eye sight. It's a good thing too bc it was less than a minute after having jumped in the pool that I saw the mgr's son grab mine, using both of his hands, & remove him, forcibly, from the pool citing that pool rules required me being inside the gates unless he was of a certain age. Given the pool rules as such, I found it odd that this would not have been taken up with me as certainly the mgr was inside the pool since her son was not of that specified age either.
