Working on it, but can it get there 2/8/2010

Depends on the day, time and cycle of the moon. I've had good experiences here and I've had not so good. I would love to say it's only gotten better, but there's still work to do. Overall I'd say the trend is up. Good luck guys, I want this to be my favorite place. OG Pros: Lovely facility Cons: slow and inconsistent service more

Menu is much better 3/29/2009

I've been to Life's a Beach countless times. I would agree with most of the comments that the food is either bad, they've run out of an ingredient (or the entire dish), etc. However, I was there this past week and was impressed with the new menu.\r \r The service was much better than it has ever been and the waiter not only knew the menu, but also made great suggestions.\r \r I always go to Life's a Beach for the atmosphere. Once, while my son was playing in the sand, I found a broken beer bottle in the sand. I gave it to the waitress and she started complaining to another wait staff person about ""see what happens..."". She was obviously upset about something that seemed to have happened previously.\r \r I was a bit taken back that after finding the glass in the sand, and my son running about with bare feet, that there was no apology or even a ""thank you"". \r \r Still, I do enjoy Life's a Beach and was very impressed with their new menu. I just make sure that my son now wears shoes while visiting Life's a Beach.\r \r I too hear that it is owned by the same person who own's Village Grill. Pros: Sand, Kids can play, casual, relaxing Cons: Found a broken beer bottle in the sand once more

Relaxing dining experience 4/22/2008

I read several reviews online so I was a bit leary of going to this restaurant, but there was a coupon and the kids wanted to try it, so we did. I felt like I stepped into a different world when we were seated (outside).... It felt like a mini getaway.\r The food was not bad as reviewed on here. I got the ""Jamaican Me Snobby"" pizza. I thought it was quite tasty. \r The music was great and I loved the waterfall and volleyball sand areas. I do wish there was a pool to top off the experience.\r I could picture myself going back with friends enjoying margaritas and beer! Pros: Definitely the ambience Cons: no pool... boo hoo more

Great atmosphere, horrible food and service 11/11/2007

I live about 2 miles from this place and we really, really wanted to see it do well. Its a great location, very clean and huge restaurant and it has a great play area (beach) for kids. So the atmosphere gets 5 stars, but unfortunately the food and service gets no stars. Its was horrible. We have been twice, once when it first opened (and we hoped they were just having a bad start), but the second time was just as bad. It took forever to order, then they delivered the wrong food to us...twice...then the food came and all I can say is yuck! I got a salad. It stated it had croutons, cucumbers, etc, etc...well, I got brown lettuce and nothing more pretty much. My husband got a burger. How can you mess up a burger?? It was huge, but had no taste at all. lastly my kids all got pizza. Again, how can you mess that up?? The pizza has SO much cheese on it, you honestly couldnt eat it and it made it really soggy. \r I had heard this place was owned by the owner of another local restaurant (Village grill) and we love that place, so maybe we heard wrong. \r So if you want great atmosphere and arent hungry, I definitely recommend them. If your hungry..try somewhere else until they figure out what they are doing. Pros: play area for kids Cons: no outside wash area for kids, horrible food, horrible service more

A work in Progress 9/11/2007

Four visits ( plan on going again this week or next ) so far, each time saw improvement. Fun place to take a group with kids, prices were fine, the reviewers that griped about the prices must lunch on a dog and soda at Costco! Pros: LOCAL OWNERSHIP, SOMETHING DIFFERENT, GREAT FOR GROOPS Cons: improving but not there yet staff/menu more

Best place to relax outdoors with a Margarita or Bucket of Beers with a beach, firepit & water fall! 8/31/2007

We have enjoyed this locally owned restaurant many times since it's opening a few months ago. Each time we visit, we feel like we are back on vacation in Florida or the Caribbean.\r \r It's great to sit outside on the deck for lunch, with yummy margaritas & great seafood salads! They even have fans & misters to keep you cool while you relax under a palm tree. Bring your kids & they can play on the HUGE beach with sand toys provided...they will be so entertained, you will have a hard time getting them home! The food has always been delicious & my kids love it!\r \r It's even better at night with the tiki tourches & the fire pit glowing. A great place to catch up with a few friends at the outdoor bar & deck. I have even been there when they have live music, which is great!\r \r We have also visited the indoor sports bar for Mavericks games & love their BIG screen plasma TVs & tabletop speakers-so you can really hear the game! My favorite menu items are the ""bucket of Bait"", Coconut Shrimp, Peel & eat shrimp, Fish sandwich & Shrimp bisque.\r \r This is just a great family & locally owned place for the atmosphere & the price. Pros: Awesome atmosphere outdoors! No where else like it in Dallas! Cons: Service is improving. more

Wonderful place and wonderful people 7/25/2007

I have dined at Life's a Beach many times during both the lunch and dinner hours. I have not had the experience like many describe on this site. I have had great food and friendly prompt service each and every time I have eaten there. There can be a wait on the weekends... but it is worth the wait! The atmosphere and ambiance makes you feel like you are on vacation. I have enjoyed this restaurant each time I have been there and I enjoy more each time I go back! It's WONDERFUL! Pros: great patio, good drinks Cons: can be a wait on weekends more

Don't waste your time or money 7/22/2007

Ridiculously over priced drinks and food! Pictures of beer $11.95 the most expensive in a 300 mile radius. Food and service awful no one seems to have a clue whats going on. Parking is limited if the food where free(which it should be) still not worth it. Save yourself high bl00d(wouldn't let me spell with oo) pressure and keep driving west to better dining. The building is kind of cool maybe should move it lakeside. Cons: taking up great real estate in Highland Village, how did the pass the counsel more

Slow Service, Messed up Food, Nice Building 7/13/2007

We tried Life's a Beach after the excitement had died down. We stopped in several times before only to be told the wait was 90 to 120 minutes. I'm glad we didn't try it with a wait because all parts of the experience where bad. Service was terrible, took 5 minutes + to visit our table to take drink orders [restaurant not busy at this time], forgot one drink, took food order forgot to log order to go to kitchen, when they finally did send it to the kitchen it took about 30 minutes to get 2 salads and fish tacos. The salad came out without the key ingredient in the name and after a few bites realized it didn't have the signature dressing. The waitress didn't charge us the for the salad but you'd think at least a manager would come by and apologize for the issues - but they we're out and/or didn't care. It's good the salad was comp'd because the drink prices are sky high. Save yourself an extra long bad experience and costs and just drive down the road to Applebee's where the service and food are better because of corporate standards and the prices are reasonable because they don't have to pay for a high depreciation schedule. My 2 centers. Pros: Ambience and setting, location Cons: Service, food and value more

Great food, lots of fun 6/21/2007

My husband and I have dinned at Life's a Beach five times and have been pleased each visit. I think the Carrebean twist to the food flavor and presentation is a refreshing change to the norm that you experience in so many other area food establishments. Service was excellent for us each time as well. The atmosphere is fun and comparable to being at a resort. In fact, we loved the enviroment so much that we took our children and grandchildren for an evening of good food and after dinner fun playing on the beach. Pros: Good food, Fun for families Cons: can be a wait for deck dinning more

Avoid Restaurant 6/21/2007

Great concept. Service opened bad and then got better. In the last month it has took a turn for the worst. No silverware. No soap in restroom. Slow drinks (alcoholic). Order two at a time if you go because you will not get your second one before you have to ask two or three times. The food is bland. Needs more spice, more flavor and more pizzaz! \r \r The bartenders are not the best in the world...there are 1 or 2 that know how to make a drink, but for the most part you need to tell them what to do. \r \r We have been there a few times and these items never improve. \r \r It's a shame someone doesn't take over and improve on some ideas. Pros: Nice atmosphere for kids...if that more

Great date night restaurant. 6/21/2007

My husband and I have been to Life's a Beach 4 times and have never had a bad experience like the other posters. There is always a wait to sit on the deck but it is well worth it. The margaritas are great and reasonably priced, about the same as other restaurants in the area. I love the fish tacos and my husband always orders the Cubano Tom (a Cuban style Panni). The service has always been courteous and attentive. \r \r The first time we went there was a man playing a steel drum that really added to the beach atmosphere. We asked if they were going to have him back and the manager informed us that they have moved live music night to Thursdays. \r \r We love this restaurant and jokingly call it our mini beach vacation. It's a great additon to the area and we love that it is so close and that we don't have to drive to Dallas for a good meal. Pros: Great atmosphere and a huge menu Cons: Parking can be tough on the weekend more

Fun setting, horrible food 6/19/2007

An idea whose time has finally come in Denton County! Great ambiance for pre/post ball game dining. Unfortunately, the food is terrible. My teens and their dates went, all came home complaining about the tasteless burgers and greasy pizza. I visitied with a group of 7 ladies and 3 of us got sick later in the day from the pecan crusted chicken salad. My husband tried it with his golf buddies and no one at the table finished their meal. All the food tastes very frozen/thawed/cooked to death, which is ashame. Too bad the food can't be as unique as the setting. I don't personally know anyone who has been to this restaurant more than once. Pros: Ambience is fun Cons: Food is not edible more

Beach owner 6/18/2007

As the only owner of Life's a Beach that is active in the operation I do take exception to the review that indicated that I told a customer to go to another restaurant if they were not happy with mine. That is absolutely false!! I am not sure who the person is that wrote the review but I strongly believe it was posted by someone who is just out to tarnish the restaurant for whatever reason rather then an account of an actual customers visit. I also know we are not even close to the most expensive restaurant in Denton County so the review in general has credibility issues. \r We are a new (opened March19th) One of a kind Caribbean themed Grill and Sports bar with a beach that does allow families with kids. We are constantly working to improve all areas of the restaurant just as every new establishment does when they first open. I welcome all comments good and bad and would enjoy hearing from anyone who would like to offer suggestions on the restaurant. Please feel free to contact me with your comments, send all messages to Jim@Lifesabeachgrill_com Pros: Very family friendly restaurant with a great sports bar Cons: Can be a long wait for outside seating on a pretty day more

Queso $ucks, and the food gave me indigestion to say the least. 6/2/2007

Its a kid playground, which is not that big adeal. So if you have kids and just don't care what you or they eat, then thats the place for you. The food sounds interesting but the way it actually taste tells me that this place needs some major redoing. Good luck not getting sick from it. Pros: Unique setup but poor quality. Cons: Poor quality food. more

Way overpriced 5/30/2007

Service is bad! Food and drinks way overpriced. You could easily goto a three or four star restaurant for the same price. Cons: no parking more

Worst place in Denton county! 5/28/2007

Most expensive restaurant in Denton county. Food and service horrible! Due to the ""sandbox"" outside kids EVERYWHERE without adult supervision. Parents and staff don't care about the unsupervised kids running amok. My wife and I have been twice and will not go back. While in the bar area we noticed a blind guy with a guide dog and the staff didn't do anything about the kids running all over the guide dog or care about the dog's owner. After speaking to the owner on the phone he said ""don't come back if your not happy here Sneaky Pete's is where you should be"". While Sneaky Pete's isn't our cup of tea maybe everyone else in Denton county should check it out. more
