I have been nothing but happy to take our 3 cats, our children, to Leaders Heights. The vets and staff are friendly, caring, and compassionate. They listen to you and treat you and your pet with respect. Dr. Cheek is wonderful. She patient and kind. She listens and answers all of your questions. She has great bedside manner. You can tell that she truly loves animals. more

Expensive, not the friendliest staff and LONG wait times! 2/14/2011

I would have to agree with "anonymous" on many points. This facility is a bit older, the parking is a pain and the front staff seems rude to me. I always walk in with a smile, but God forbid you walk up before you are called. I've been snapped at twice to wait my turn even when I've put my name on the list. They'll squeeze you in for an appointment, but you will wait in the waiting room forever regardless of your appointment time. Dr. Aiello has zero personality, spits out information like she's reciting it from a book. She muzzled my dog instead of taking a few minutes to let my dog sniff her. Dr. Cheek, however, was very friendly and did a great job on the dog for a procedure. However, this was not enough to keep me coming back to this vet. The prices are astronimcal. They were very reluctant and VERY rude when you wanted a prescription that you could fill yourself for half the price online. I was told I would have to schedule for an anal sac cleaning because it was an in depth proce more

A true blessing 12/6/2010

Last Thursday our family had to say goodbye to our beloved Bradley. This decision was extremely painful for our family, as Bradley was part of our family for over 13 years. I truely believe that God made sure Dr. Cheek would help us that day. She was compassionate, and kind. She made sure that Bradley was comfortable, and provided our family with as much support as she possibly could. I cannot thank her enough, and couldn't have asked for a more professional and caring person. Thank you, Dr. Cheek. more

Dr Cheek vet extraordinare 3/26/2010

Dr Cheek hs been a God send for my professional\r cattery and few canine pets. She is so patient and \r understanding with a non judgmental attitude towards\r breeders. She is willing to work with clients and provide\r expert advise. She reviews and considers all the latest\r in veterinary procedures and treatments. I feel very \r confident trusting my beloved four legged family to her. Pros: Personable, compassionate, and knowledgeable more

Good Office 9/28/2009

I've had good experiences with this vet's office. It's clean and the staff is professional. I've used the kennel on occasion and everything has gone well. I especially appreciate that they have pointed out to me vaccinations and other that were not really necessary for my pets because of being indoor pets and because they were aging. Their office hours and kennel pick up times are very accommodating. more

Couldn't be happier with Vets and Staff 5/4/2009

I found these Vets through recommendations of friends after we lost a 6 month old Pug after surgery at another Vet Practice in the East York area. This practice is further from my home but well worth it.\r I can't say enough good about this place. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the Vets are very competent and caring. They take the time to go over your pets case and will give you options on degrees of care you can afford and are comfortable with. \r \r I have never encountered a rude Vet and I haven't noticed any of them treating my husband any differently. I think someone could interpret Dr. Ricklis as being rude, she just has a feisty personality. We have found her to be very kind and caring. She makes sure that that practice is run competently and caringly.\r My dog Jia Li went in for what I thought was a urinary tract infection (she was marking all over the house) Dr. Pettigrew discovered a tumor. I was sent to a VCA hospital immediately. Jia had surgery and was not expected to survive past a few months. That was 3 years ago. She is now a healthy 7 year old dog. I think that was possible because Dr. Pettigrew and Dr. Ricklis acted swiftly, referring her to a cancer specialist.\r \r Dr. Cheek recently peformed minor surgery on Jia Li to remove 2 benign growths and clean her teeth. After having lost a Pug to anesthesia I get a bit nervous when my dogs need to be put under. Dr. Cheek was very supportive and caring. She was never heavy handed about getting her teeth cleaned, she just equiped me with the information I needed to make that choice. \r It's a great place and you will feel confident that your pet is in good hands. Pros: Excellent care, friendly, knowledgeable Vets, Friendly staff more

Amazing Care 2/25/2009

My husband and I have been taking our dogs to this facility for the past 20 years. I can tell you for a fact that with our first dog we saw just about every Veterinarian in York and I can tell you that Leader Heights is up there at the top. There is only 1 other facility in York besides the Emergency Clinic on South Queen St that we believe provides the same level of care and compassion. For the most part our dogs have been under the care of Dr Ann Pettigrew, but we have no complaints on the occasions we have seen the others. The office staff including the office managers, receptionists, technicians, etc. I cannot say enough good things about them. We have just adopted a rescue dog and have already contacted Dr Pettigrew regarding getting him set-up for care. Mparents has used this veterinarian office for years and continue to do so.They are definitely people that care, are compassionate and are not afraid to say they don't know and refer you to a specialist that does. Thank you all fo more

Caring staff 1/27/2009

I switched to Leaders Heights a couple of years ago because I was not happy with the customer service at my old vet. I have found the vets and staff at leaders heights to be very professional, helpful, knowledgeable and competent. My old vet was a revolving door of front desk help, technicians, and doctors which was very frustrating. My favorite doctors are Dr. Cheek and Dr. Pettigrew and I am pleased with the entire staff at the hospital. Keep up the good work!Don't be fooled into believing that a new remodeled hospital makes a better vet. It only adds to the cost of your bill. more

Very competent 11/17/2008

We have been taking our pets to Leader Heights Animal Hospital for about 20 years now. We are always treated with the utmost respect no matter which vet we see. I have complete confidence in their ability to properly diagnose and treat my pets. The only negative I can say about them is that more often than not, we have to wait a long time for our appointment when we get there. BUT...on the other hand, we never feel like they are rushing us out the door when they are examining our pets. more

Great Staff, Excellent Doctors 7/23/2008

I am amazed by a couple of the comments I have read here about Leader Heights Animal Hospital. Sexist??? Sounds to me like someone who is a bit insecure. Yes. The majority of doctors at this hospital are women. So what? I don't believe they treat anyone differently because of that. They provide consistently good care at a fair price. Their staff is fantastic, always friendly and helpful. I have been going there for years and see many of the same faces which tells me a lot about how they treat their staff. Their focus is your pet's care. They have always been kind and caring. I have mostly seen Dr. Pettigrew and absolutely love her!! She takes her time with my dogs and always discusses what she is doing and why. I have called in outside of normal business hours and always received a call back from Dr. Pettigrew or one of the other doctors, whether it's 10PM on a weeknight or 10AM on a Sunday morning. What more can you ask for? more

They love animals! 6/24/2008

We've been taking our cat here for the past three years, and they've always been wonderful. The receptionists, vets, and assistants are always so caring and gentle with our pet, even though our cat is a big, grumpy guy! The vets are also very responsive to our questions and always communicate with us in a friendly and easy-to-understand manner. more

Rude, rude, rude 6/16/2008

I took my dog there last week, I suspected my dog contracted Lyme disease and I had lots of questions. We saw Dr Ricklefs, apparently the Dr. found my questions terribly annoying, she was incredibly rude to me. Each time I asked a question that compared or contrasted something that I know to be a fact about Lyme disease in people to how if affects dogs, she put her hands up to the sides of her face imitating horse blinders (like she was giving me the "sign" to focus) and snapped "we were not talking about people, we are talking about dogs!".I was charged $42.50 for an "office visit" that apparently did not include an exam, the dr never looked at my dog's eyes, teeth, ears, took her temperature, etc. That place is a joke, STAY AWAY! more

Caring, but sexist 3/1/2008

Although I personally never had any problem with taking any of my many animals to Leader Heights Animal Hospital, my husband used to hate going in, because he felt that the main veterinarian had "issues" with men, which he has never claimed about anyone else. Needless to say, we changed vets, because I liked my husband far more than the vet! They were very caring and supportive, however, when we had to put our 14-year old cat to sleep, which was an incredibly difficult period in our lives. more
