Hidden Gem! 9/17/2006

I have been to Le Petit a few times and have always come back ranting and raving. Their food is different than most places, in a very good way. There are many healthy, and super delicious options to chose from and you absolutely cannot beat the prices. Not only is the food inexpensively fantastic, the decor is beautiful. The space is small, but its like you are eating in a garden or greenhouse. It is truely a space you must see. It is a great place to go for an intimate setting, so don't go in a group. Also DO NOT GO if you plan on getting ""a quick bite to eat"" b/c chances are you wont get out in time (seems like they have limited wait staff on hand). However, its a great place to go with a date, or a few close friends. From what I hear brunch is second to none! Do yourself a favor and try out this hidden gem. I promise you will not be disapointed! Pros: Ambiance, Decor, Food more

Slowest, Rudest Service 9/4/2006

I couldn't agree more with famouslinnet's review below. In fact, after I told of my recent experience, the friend who introduced me to the place exclaimed she knew exactly what I was talking about because HER most recent visit was equally horrible. Weeks ago, a friend and I ordered simple brunch food, and after 30 minutes of waiting asked if our order had been forgotten. We were assured not. So, there was no excuse for waiting another 30 minutes after which the waitress said absently that the kitchen was just busy. Well, we waited another 30 mins (now 1.5 hours) and we had only received our drinks! Meanwhile, other groups arrived, ate, and left. We asked the waitress where our order was, and she asked ""what did you order?"". At that point, we knew there was no way our order ever went to the kitchen and they hadn't even started making it. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave, extremely fed up. Doing what anyone should do, we alerted the hostess and explained our disappointment. The response? She said that we were the only table that had been waiting and the kitchen was very small. She could have easily just apologized but instead gave excuses. Did the rudeness stop there? NO. It went on to the owner who was equally rude and said very loudly as we were paying for our drinks (which any good establishment wouldn't even make us pay for the poor service!), ""I wanna get them outta here"" (as if we were the reason for their failures). Again, he made the same excuses and blamed a small kitchen. Sorry, but if the kitchen is too small for the business, that is NOT our problem. In addition, he blamed us for being the only table with this problem. On our way out, we could hear him mutter, ""It's a mess in here"". No kidding. NOT ONCE did any one of them offer a simple apology. Save your time and money and go elsewhere across the street. That's what we did. Lovely service and waiters are there that deserve your business. Pros: Charming atmosphere, but no way to make up for bad service Cons: Long wait, and incredibly Rude from waiter to owner more

Terrible service and incredibly rude owner! 9/2/2006

I was so excited to eat here today after walking by almost daily for a few months. The hostess was really nice and kept us updated on out seating status. Only about 10 minutes or so on a lovely Sunday, not bad. Then it went downhill fast. After being seated we waited at least 20 minutes to get a half-filled plastic cup full of water and were told sometime thereafter that they were out of the lemonade. We changed our order to orange juice (they display fresh squeezed oj outside on a lovely cart) and waited another 5-7 min before our gruff waitress informed us that they were out of that too...the woman who makes it was just too busy. We ordered our food. I am allergic to cow's milk and asked to sub goat cheese on my meal...we waited, and waited, and waited. After waiting about 45-50 min I finally went inside to use the bathroom and inquire about our meal. It hadn't been made yet. Everyone around us (ordering after us) seemed to be eating. The waitress didn't seem to think it was odd to wait so long so I went back to the table. About 5 min later our food arrived...mine with cheddar cheese all over it. So of course I had to send it back and wait even longer. The food was mediocre. When we finally got our bill there was an extra $2 charge for subbing goat cheese. We paid our bill and on the way out I decided I really wanted to tell the owner how disappointed I was in our service. All he had to do to win me over was apologize and I would have probably given them another chance at some point. Instead he apparently knew I was the one who sent my food back b/c of the goat cheese and immediately berated me for even asking about the $2 charge. He continued to say rude things to me and gruffly told me to ""have a nice day"" as he walked away. Please think twice before you spend your money here. There are plenty of amazing small businesses to support! Pros: lovely garden, but who cares when you're treated badly? Cons: horrible service, owner's terrible attitude! more

Worst service ever 7/22/2006

Let me start by asking this question: What restaurant doen't have EGGS during brunch on a Saturday? Set aside the fact that there is a bodega next door that sells eggs and they should have gone an gotten some - don't wait until everyone else is served their food and eating (about an hour after arriving) to come out and tell the person who is there for their birthday brunch that they are out of eggs and can't have an omelet. Then forget to bring out a menu so that they can pick something else. Then make us chase them down ten minutes later to get a menu. This is the kicker - they then screwed up his order and gave him the wrong entree. Besides being out of eggs, they were out of most of the white wines and hollandaise sauce, so my first choices for brunch were out the window. The two waitress who initially were waiting on us disappeared. Instead of spending all their time making the place look nice (which is does) they should stop spending money on decorations and spend it on some food and decent waitresses so they can actually serve people, you know, food or something. It's just too frustrating to be bothered with the place. Pros: Pretty decor Cons: Worst service ever. more

Beautiful garden, excellent food 7/4/2006

We went recently for brunch, on a very hot and humid day. Although we did have to wait a few minutes, and no one working there seemed to be organized in terms of a wait list, it was all worth it. The garden is beautiful and peaceful, it was so refreshing given the weather. I didn't want to leave! The food was delicious. I agree that the wait staff wasn't very friendly, but the service was adequate and our food arrived without too much of a wait. I'm looking forward to going back. more

infuriating to hopeless 5/25/2006

the service that is...the waitress gives you dirty looks if you ask if you can sit down since there is never anyone there greet you or make eye contact with. Today i tried (again) to get delivery but their first number listed on their to go menu is STILL busy as i write this (it's been 2 hours and 15 min) their second number just keeps on ringing. I have to admit that their decor and ambience is above par compared to other cafes in the area but if the owner only puts time and effort into the aesthetics and not in the service then maybe he should be an interior decorator and not in the SERVICE industry. Pros: decor Cons: service!, mismanaged, service! more

Wow...Now that is FABULOUS! 12/15/2005

I must say...This place should be cloned and placed in every neiborhood! I entertain business associates friends and family at Le Petit. The decor is breath taking. Everything from an indoor train, murals, fireplace, jewelry by local artists...The owner is there everyday and the food is GREAT! The servings are large, I mean you get your money's worth and then some. A sure tourists site! My friends are amazed and it becomes the ""favorite"" brooklyn spot every time!!! Horray for style, service and Fabulous Brooklyn! Pros: Food, Decor, Service Cons: Busy, Busy, Busy more

3 years and counting 11/5/2005

Ive been going there for 3 years now and have had really great experiences there and a few bad ones as well. The Service can be slow at time and there is typically a wait but, the breakfasts are some of the best in the area. Even simple items like scramble eggs and home fries are wonderful. The menu and the place itself have been created with an attention to detail and subtle flair that make this place so popular. Over the years they have gone from being a small cafe with a few tables to a restaurant with a beautiful outdoor seating area and a full wine and food menu. I go fairly often and am rarely disappointed. I do occasionally find the wait to be too long and go elsewhere. more

Beatiful Space poor service 3/7/2005

The service. Never the waitress while you dine in, she is amazing. I placed an order for take out... requested certain items eliminated from my sandwhich. They proceeded to pour my soups first and have them sit on the counter for over 10 minutes while waiting for my sanwhiches. After confronting the counter clerck he assured me the soups would stay warm as long as I wasn't walking 20 minutes to my destination. I arrived home realized that they put all the ingredients I didn't want. I went back (with my cold soups) They said they would have to make me another dish since they couldn't scrape off the unwanted ingredients. OF COURSE! WHAT DID THEY THINK? Didn't even offer to get me new soups. Another day I placed a delivery order. I live 2 blocks away. Took over 45 minutes the food was cold. Pros: ambiance, outdoor garden Cons: service, take out, delivery more

avoid altogether 6/13/2004

not only did my friends and i wait approx an hour and a half for omelettes, we were berated and belittled by the owner (manager?) when we brought this to his attention. our server was surly and unresponsive, and we were told the situation was our fault because we hadn't just left. they continue to expand their garden space, w/out expanding their kitchen and cannot provide even adequate service. the food's not worth it, especially when it comes cold, or you don't have silverware, syrup, coffee...or anything else you may need to mildly enjoy. Cons: , rude, slower than slow more
