Here is what happened when I went to Indian grocery stores on Sunday evening (12/05/2010).
Usually I shop at Laxmi Palace 98% of time, so I went to Laxmi palace to shop for following items.
1. Small green chilly (2.99/Lb)
2. Tomato (1.29/Lb)
3. Okra (3.49/Lb)
4. Coriander (79 cents bunch)
5. Curry leaves (99 cents pack)
But they don't have fresh Tomato and Okra, so I left the store without buying anything to check my luck at Bhavani.
I was surprised to see the price difference for the exact same items, looking fresher than at Laxmi palace.
1. Small green chilly (1.99/Lb)
2. Tomato (0.99/Lb)
3. Okra (2.99/Lb)
4. Coriander (50 cents bunch)
5. Curry leaves (99 cents pack, but double size than in Laxmi palace)
If I take all items I would pay $7.46 at Bhavani, for the same items it would cost me $10.54 at Laxmi palace (two packs curry leaves to match quantity).
It looks like only $3.08 difference in my case, but Laxmi palace prices are 43% higher for this purchase.
If you spend $100 in Bhavani, for same items you need to pay $143.00 in Laxmi palace.
Why do we need to pay more? Please don't let anyone rob our community, we do have an best alternative.
Let us support, whoever sells for less price. When Laxmi palace sells for less price, we will support them only.
Just don't listen to me, you can personally visit both stores and make your own decision.
