The Gardens are not very big or impressive. Admission is overpriced for what they offer. Pros: entertainment Cons: price, small gardens, limited restaurants

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/31/2014

Small Chinese garden in the heart of Portland. It's a bit pricey in my opinion, but if you can get in for free (locals can get a pass from their library) or discounted then I think it's worth a visit. more

Calm and Cool 8/18/2003

A great way to escape the hustle of Downtown. The water cools you. The serenity will calm you. A little on the pricey side (6.50 for adults) but worth the admission. See beautiful chinese structures and wonderful flowers. Located in Chinatown district. Pros: Cool, Calm Cons: Gift shop small more

Every Step is a Story 4/24/2003

Try to take the tour that they offer, it gives you so much more appreciation and background to what the garden has to offer. Although the garden is not very big, every step and every corner has been given detailed consideration. I find it amazing that they were able to ship so many pieces of the garden from Suzhou, China. The free guided tour is also an excellent way to learn about symbolism within Chinese culture. more

My backyard 10/7/2002

The Chinese Garden is my backyard. I live in a condo close in Portland and have no garden. I walk to the garden, read a box, drink tea and just sit when I want green relaxing space. This is a new piece of Portland and one of the many places that make Portland the place to live. Pros: inexpensive as member, close in, peaceful Cons: expensive, limited night hours more

Beauty, Peace and Harmony in the City 7/31/2002

The most beautiful garden in the city, the perfect place to unwind, relax, and while away a little time surrounded by lush plants, trees and flowers, amazingly decorated buildings, gentle waterways. Step into a Chinese painting for an afternoon, and don't miss the guided tours which will further explain why this is such an amazing place. Pros: Beautiful, Interesting, Mind Expanding more

this is the place to go to find yourself and learn to appreciate innocent and simple beauty. The garden is simple yet regal at the same time. It's authenticity is something for Portlanders to be very proud of! more
